few reasons, Wanted to do something different and minimized support equipment.
Simple installation.
Weight.
No need to carry pump/Battery pack.
Setup at the field is simple, one plug per wing

Brakes are also electron, run off the same electronics. They supply a 80mm Wheel with a 6mm shaft. http://www.electron-retracts.com/pro...0mm-wheel.html

RE: Tomahawk Futura Build Thread
I followed the installation of retractable landing gear in the small electron futura with great interest, because I want to order the futura 1.9M in the coming days.
I want to retract as electron system, you must install the ER40? with legs turbodidi? brakes electrons can they be mounted on legs?
Regards
Mikaël

Hello,
Yes the ER 40 are the correct units to use for the Futura 1.9. When you order you will still need to purchase the oleos from Tomahawk. The ER40 can be ordered with either a 6 mm or 8 mm hole in the retract block. Nose gear come standard with a 6mm hole. Main Oleos have a 8mm pin. 80mm wheel/ brakes which electron supply will fit the tomahawk oleo no problem. Hope that answers your questions. When installing the nose gear make sure you do not cut the pin too short on the oleo as this will give you a nose down attitude.

Has anyone experienced any issues with the brakes? I thought using a little extra oring grease would help but it just pushed it out between the brake drum and rim. I think going with a slightly larger oring will drag on the rim. Anyone else encounter this?
Despite this I've really been enjoying my Futura. Here is a video from yesterday, it was pretty windy. In the air the Futura didn't seem phased by it but it was a direct cross wind so landing was a little more challenging. Here is a video from one of the flights. I clipped out the parts that my hat cam didn't pick up. Sorry the quality isn't better.

Hi Sean,
Had same issue and tried also with grease , but no result; manufacturer changed the brake discs and they are ok now.

RE: Tomahawk Futura Build Thread
Hi all,
Need some help to figure out the throws for the 1.9m Futura. I will be doing the maiden flight this weekend.
These are the settings I found in the manual:
Elevator +25mm up and -16mm down, Dual rate 100%
Aileron +20mm up and -13mm down, Dual rate 70%
What I am not sure is the % setting for the dual rate.
For elevator, the recommended is +25mm up and -16mm down. Are these the high dual rate settings and that i should reduce the deflection for a low setting? What would be a comfortable setting for the maiden flight (not too sensitive, nor sluggish)
Also for the ailerons, are the settings above (70%) the low rate settings, and that high rates should be 100%?
From what i had found out, the cg can be between 20-25mm behind the aluminum wing tube. I believe the 20mm is measured from the rear edge of the tube (its circumference)and not from the centre of the tube?
Can someone help to confirm?
Thanks.
Isaac

RE: Tomahawk Futura Build Thread
Hi Isaac,
Just also check the post from haisanjafri for the deflections.
Set the travel to the recommanded throw at 100% dual rate and then set individual DR and Expo for the 3 phases start, flying, landing (recommand to use phases).
CG is recommanded at 10 mm, from the rear edge of the tube; as some people fly it from 20-25mm would recommand to put it on10-20 mm for the first flights and then try.
it's always difficult to say as you newer know the experience the pilot has.
I have done only 3 flights with these deflections, since then the weather and field conditions didn't allow me to fly.
from my short experience: with the stock front gear you have to pull elevator quite a bit to get up from (grass) field, landing with full flaps needs a lot of thrust, do not throttle it to much.

RE: Tomahawk Futura Build Thread
Hello,
I am having some issues with mounting my tailpipe in my Futura 2.5m. I was able to get the tube in place, however the rear former (Vertical fin tube) does not allow it to sit properly onto the turbine rails. I cannot lift it high enough without crushing the double wall on the thrust tube to get it into place. And will not come up high enough to center it to the turbine. Has anyone else had a similar issue with the tube ? And if so how is the best way to fix the issue, I will attach some pics of the problem.

I have finished building one and faced the same issue. But, I sanded the former by about 1/8 and the problem was solved. One more thing, I straighten the tabs on the bell that get screwed to the former, added two pieces of hard wood under the railing mounts and attached the tabs with screws to the hard woods. That helped to center the engine and allow a good fit. (The engine I am using is 180rx)
Unfortunately I am out of town and can not post any pictures for you. But, if you need so, I can send you come pictures next week.
