Back onto Blue 13, slowly getting little things done here and there. Here are the pics of the landing gear and completed gear with painted gear doors. I am missing 2 placards per gear that I didn't have and will have to get those later.

I also finished painting the inner portion of the flaps and plan to get them finally glued in place soon.
Also in preparation to finally getting Blue 13 on "Blue 13" I free handed the stencil I will be using to mask. I decided it would just be easier for myself to do it this way so I got the dimensions I needed and drew one out.

I also decided for at least this week due to my fund situation that I won't be ordering a replacement plane for the lost ESM 190 I am just going to push myself to get this one done and my Ziroli Stuka by Spring and fly them. As much as I want the ESM 109 I still need to order servos for Blue 13 and an engine for my Stuka.

Here is the tail gear for my 1/6 190 that is in the scrap yard. I'm trying to decide if I should try to sell it for a good price or keep it. Here is what I am thinking if i keep it......
Like many Sierra FW tailgear I have seen here on RCU there is a problem with the cylinder glue that holds the cylinder to the gear. When I removed it from my plane I noticed immediately the shock from the crash broke the glue separating the cylinder from the gear...... I have two purposes I could use these parts.
I could use the steering arm, shaft and wheel fork in one of my sport planes that lost its tail wheel and part of the tailgear in flight. It would make a rock solid tailgear and weight wouldn't be an issue as I don't use it for 3D and it has a very light wing loading.
Then with the more important second idea I am going to have an air cylinder sliding canopy on a second air tank in Blue 13. I was thinking that this air cylinder of this gear would be the perfect length for the FW retractable step behind the wing. I could Y the airlines to a single valve so when the canopy is open, the step is down, When the canopy is closed, step is up. I don't think the setup would weigh much more than an ounce and being just behind the wing I would only have to add an ounce or so to counterbalance the addition. I know weight is critical on this particular plane but if your talking 16-32 oz of nose weight ballast what is one more.........
Thoughts, comments?

Sounds like a plane curt. I figured out during my cg challenges, that for every ounce 12" behind the cg, required 4 ounces on the backside of my firewall. Every little bit of weight starts adding up very quickly when it comes time to balance the thing, but the retracting step would be cool.

Down and locked can convert the tail gear to electric. I asked how much more it would weight, and they couldnt give me an answer, but going by a few linear actuators i have linked with the correct strokes, they would add about 2 to 4 ounces at the tail over the pneumatic gear. if my memory is correct, that works out to around a pound of weight on the firewall to even it out...

RE: SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8
Did some more painting this weekend. I finished up painting almost everything else. ECT 501 pylon, radio antenna, spare drop tank, repainted cowl mottling, underwing crosses all finished. It is amazing how long it takes to mask the insignias. Probably worth it to spend the 70 some odd dollars for paint masks in the future but it is very rewarding for me when that final tape comes off and I see the finished product that all that drawing and masking effort went to. All that is pretty much left is painting Blue 13 and the nose art. Then it will be weathering. I am going to do a detailed landing gear bay and flap bay at a later time then I will paint them RLM 02 Probably when I am doing the cockpit. I just am really pushing to get the exterior paint finished. Still unsure of my weathering skills I am going to use the 1 good wing panel from my wrecked 190 and use it for a canvas at weathering attempts and styles to try and get one that will be satisfactory for myself on Blue 13. Here are some shots of the weekend progress. I think that time in just masking the two colors on both underwing crosses took at least 2 hours.
I will add to the cowl mottling slightly after the nose art is on. I know exactly where it will go but won't know how much mottling to add until after it is on and I can determine.
shots of 1 wing cross and the cowl as it is tonight.

I am going to start build up of the step as well. Still unsure about the air cylinder idea, as Invertmast said as far back as it sits behind the wing I estimate it will take around 3 oz of nose weight to offset so I don't know if the option will be worth the extra weight. I probably should throw some batteries and servos in the nose and get an Idea of how much ballast I need right now before I add to the problem. I will at least add a manual step as you did Thomas a couple of grams wont matter and I would be happy with just that. I can't help just staring admiring the plane just thinking what else I can add to it. At least with a detailed landing gear bay that is forward of the CG.
I also started work back on the Stuka this weekend. I won't post a build thread on the progress up to the current in primer. But I might do a thread on detail and finish I havent decided.
One thing on the ECT 501 pylon is a lot of builds I have seen the upper portion painted black but on all my photos the lower portion below the rack is painted black so that is how I painted mine.

I will be starting on the cockpit next, as my garage has been to cold to paint in the last couple of weeks. I am also going to start hysoling in place the flaps and ailerons and start installing servos but have one small problem, I have not installed the aileron horns yet as I have no idea from the instructions how they go into the aileron. From every angle I do not see how they can be installed and still clear the covers. Before I cut a slot in the ailerons I want to make sure I do it right, could anyone post a good close up picture of their setup so I can see how they are affixed into the surface? I would appreciate it so I could move forward with that part.

Make sure you get the linkage at the servo as close as possible to the output shaft to. I had 5/8" between the hinge c/l and the clevis pin c/l on the aileron, and 1/2" at the servo wasnt close enough to keep it from fluttering at my slower speeds.

Thanks Bob and Thomas, I'll see what I can do with that. I also think I remember Evan Q. saying something about flutter with the heavier composite control surfaces.

Here is my SisT based on JG301. I also, per Evan, be using the built up control surfaces to save on wieght and flutter issues. Still have a ways to go but getting closer. I used latex paint and automotive flat clear.

The SisT is thee best 1/5 Fw-190 kit made in my opinion I still keep kicking my self for selling this kit to dvs1. I talked to him not to long ago he said life and has gotten in the way but plans on finishing his 190 as soon as he can. Good luck with finishing your build I've talked to several people that has flown the SisT 190 and they said it fly's great with no bad habits. The 190 always comes out tail heavy so try to move everything possible forward and use a heavy engine like a zenoah 45/65. I even seen guys put the batteries in the cowl to balance it. There is some great builds of this kit on rcscalebuilder website with good information.

RE: SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8
Thanks Bob and everyone!
I found this color pattern while searching on wings Palate. From what I have read this was a unit from JG 301 in defense of the reich. I just bought the built up control surface kit for this to lighten up the plane and control flutter. I will post some more shots as I get closer!!!! I will be using the G62 with the CM6 plug and adapter with electronic ignition. Since the plus is shorter I will not need to cut the cowl. I for sure will put the batteries in the cowl area as there is plenty of room.
Thanks

With the new E ingnition conversion from Agape Hobby there is no need to enlarge the oil tank blister as it makes the plug .25" shorter. This system also allows you to use a 2 s lipo which is nice. Your Saito will sound SWEET!!!!
Evan has been just awesome and has helped me a TON... great guy!
