Since I have decided to wait for the ARC and still will have a lot into ''flipping'' it I may just brush off my table for a scratch build of the Heinkel HE-100D-1. I designed and drew up a set of plans for it 20 years ago and sold the rights to the plans but I now have a set of plans that are for a 82'' version. The original was 74''. The new DLE-55 RE will fit very nicely in the slender nose. I will still keep my eye on the FW-190.
Here is a picture of the completed HE-100 with 74'' wingspan and my plans.
Cute shot of my wife too! I sold the plane but have kept my wife.
I have everything I need to build it but will have to make a bigger ''plug'' for another
canopy and have FG Specialties pull some canopies for me.

Well, Just got mine stripped down to bare wood. took about an hour and a half to do the whole plane. covering comes off pretty easily. I cut the elevators off the stab, and used a hollow brass tube to cut the hinges out. Will put balsa plugs in the holes and redrill the plugs for new hinges. However contemplating building new elevators and ailerons for a more scale look.

If you want to ease the process of building more scale control surfaces. Flightskin sell a package..They're designed to fit the SistFW190. That's what I'm using.

Karl! You got one of these??? Sweet man. Maybe if I ever fly again we can hook up with the FW's. REAL interested to see how you finish this one. It should be sharp. What paint scheme you going with? Missed you at FDL this year.

Hi Mike,
Yeah, I just got it. I'm pretty excited about this project. Should be a pretty quick build. Not sure on the paint job yet. I'm down to a couple of schemes. Why do you say,"if you ever fly again?" I was pretty upset about missing FDL this year. I cancelled the day before.

Have been vacationing in Florida for a lot of the summer the past few years and it's put the clamps on most of my flying time unfortunately...but FDL is after I return, so always on the schedule for me. I'm excited that you picked one up though. I was really impressed by the plane at FDL. It's a winner. With your finishing skills, you are going have a fantastic plane. If you'll have it ready for FDL next year, I'll definitely bring a 190 with to join you. I would always try to sway you towards a Green Heart paint scheme, but that would mean you converting it to an A4 (of course within your ablity )

You are all correct the plugs do stick out a little bit. Here is a picture. The benefit is that the motor is very smooth, has a very low reliable idle and can swing a decent sized 3 bladed prop with good performance.

Looking at that, I wonder if the engine could not be rotated slightly so that on one side the plug is contained within the blister, and the other side would end up in the exhaust eagle.

To bad they did not angle the plugs on that dle, on a twin 60 trying to squeeze into in 50cc airframes you would think it would be a no brainer.
LOL they even angled the plugs on the new 55 and 35

Cal, great idea and nice job using the DLE 60 twin! Looks like you used the stock mufflers and cut holes for the pipes to stick straight down. How close are the cans from the cowl? Is there room to run the pipes further back if we cut off the stock tubes and alum-brazed on new tubes that angled back and down?
With the ~1/2 pound added motor weight of the twin, further forward than the stock weights attached to the motor mount box, were you able to remove any or all of those factory bolted on weight plates?
Yes, painting the plug caps black or even O.D. would help unless rotating is possible. Please post photo of other side of cowl.
