Kraft Series 74 Single Stick
Hello,
I have acquired a working gold stickered 74 series single stick radio. The batteries are good and I have a few questions.
Is this an AM radio?
What is it's approximate value?
I've heard of 2.4 conversions done on Kraft radios. What is the cost of these conversions?
Who does the conversions?
Thanks. Ted

Yep. AM it is and was later narrow banded. Radio South can 2.4 it for you in any brand. Or you could just fly it if you can find some 72 narrow band receivers - should be really cheap.

Thanks for the replies. RS said $200 and only the XPS 2.4 system. Not my preferred system. I have a buddy who believe he can do a futaba to spektrum module in it. I am looking for someone who can tell me which contact on the Kraft trainer plug (on the bottom of the transmitter) is the PPM signal. I know it is a charge jack but I also believe it is the trainer port also. If anyone know that info please let me know.

RE: Kraft Series 74 Single Stick
I've done a couple of conversions on Kraft radios. They are a little different than doing other radios. The modulation line votage swing is to the full battery voltage (about 9.6V). Most other radios modulation votage shift is 5V. Here is some info on how I got around this....http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10072737/tm.htm

There are several Chinese systems that will work and they are much cheaper.

Thanks for the info Pete. I actually found a receiver on 42 in some of the stuff that came with the radio and powered it up. It is a Tower Hobbies receiver and it worked perfectly. I know it should be sent out to be tuned to the receiver but I believe it was the receiver the man who owned the transmitter used with it. I also found a like new Kraft receiver on ch50 that I might also send to RS and have them change it to 42 as I have about 15 like new Kraft servos also. So many options to do with this radio right now. I will give the link to my buddy to have him take a look at it.
Thanks, Ted

RE: Kraft Series 74 Single Stick
Today my goal is to finish the conversion of a Kraft Series 78 that I started last winter and got distracted from (building with wood, of course).
I will post some pix and notes.
It uses a Spektrum module, of course.

RE: Kraft Series 74 Single Stick
There is probably some FCC legal reason that RS won't put a Futaba module in the back. It is really quite easy. You have to also check for interference from the module back into the transmitter encoder. 75 was purely analog and should not be a problem. You may have to adjust the level of the PPM signal - resister divider or at worst case 1/2 gain LM324 non-inverting amp. Find someone with a scope and look at the new TX output signal intended for the module and match it.
