yes it is a bird dog. that has been the hold up for starting the waco it's a ikon kit that has been a right pain but must say it flys well

The new landing gear arrived today Jim had made they are really nice should hold up to even my landings.
Jim do you have any pictures of how you mounted the gear?

Here are a couple of pictures of my struts mounted. I installed a 1/4" AC plywood mounting plate at points in the fuselage structure where the bent wire struts slip into the grooves in the hardwood blocks provided in the kit. The elevation of the bottom of the plate is the same as the tops of the grooves for the wires. Because I build "hell for stout", I installed 1/8" lite ply gusset plates from the top of the strut mounting plate to the back of the firewall. I used #10 cap screws through t-nuts to attach the struts to the plywood plate. Overall this scheme added about 1 pound to the total weight of the airplane. But as I have said previously, at 19 pounds dry, my WACO "does not know it is heavy". With my DLE 30 at half throttle, it lifts off the runway about 15 feet after the tail comes up, and it absolutely floats when landing. My best landings have been "dead stick".

Thanks for the pictures that’s kind of what I had in mind. I have glued in the ¼ ply and started to patch in the sheeting up to the gear not sure how I will frame in on top of the gear yet any suggestions? Will post pictures soon.

cdbarker, try tower hobbies or horizon look for their steerman or other radel engine aircraft arf replacements parts, you should find something that will work.

Thanks for your words of praise. Please understand that my comments about your elevator servo were to offer genuine help, not to have a difference of opinion or to criticise. I post on this forum to maybe help someone in their building endeavours, and to learn from others. Lordie, buried back in the pages is a how to on building your own radial engine. You can do it for the sixth scale just as easily. It takes an evening or so to build it, but you can say that you did it yourself.

Edit: the how to with pictures is found on page 299.

Well A Start Has Been Made, did a parts Check and it seems to be all present so i moved on to cut new F1,F4b,&F14b all from 1/4 ply, im now starting the top wing center section

I'd be interested if you form cut a plate to mount them on, maybe getting your ideas or template, unless it is totally obvious...Hope to be starting my Waco in a few weeks if all goes well (gotta clean the shop )

No, no one is complaining. I wish that he had the time to do it as well. I often must look through several pages in order to find what I'm looking for. I do know about what time frame I'm looking into, but it still takes hours to find it.

On a different note, anyone ever found a good epoxy (maybe something like Hysol) that will bond aluminum to wood? Needs to be really strong, and fairly light.
