RE: Classic Pattern Only Contest? Lancaster, Ca. IT'S ON!! Nov. 10-11
Just a little more info on the event.
Entry Fee will be $20. There will be a grill going so we will have burgers and dogs at a nominal fee. I hope to get a Pilot's Meeting by 9:15. 1st round flying started at 9:30. Depending on number of entries we will fly either one line or two. I hope to get 4 rounds in but we will see how everything goes. Mike and Jean Greear have agreed to do the scoring, so we are all set on that. CPA Novice, Sportsman, Advanced and Masters will be offered. Be prepared to do some judging. One class will have to judge the other classes.
Keep in mind we are not being strict on what kind of model you fly. I will frown on 2-Meter pattern planes and IMAC models. But if you have a more modern model that is still in the "spirit" of a Classic, bring it out and have some fun. This is more about the style of flying then having an accurate Classic Pattern Plane. I may have an award for the Best Classic Model but we'll see how it goes.
We do have a 7.5Kw generator at the field so some power will be available for charging.
We will have awards to 3rd place. And I want to do a group picture of everyone with their models.
If you are planning on entering please email me your name and what Class you will be flying. My email is [email protected]. That will help us get ready as quickly as possible.
Hope to see you there!

So far I have received two emails with entrants. If you're coming, please email me your name and what class you'll be flying. That will help get us going quicker in the morning! Thanks!

Well my son's football season has finally come to an end. Both of us are gonna get back to flying again and next year hope to make most of the contests. We plan on coming out this weekend to check it out, but my classic pattern plane still needs covering and quite a bit of work so we will probably just spectate!! Miss all my flying friends!!

You can probably run faster then all of us old guys. Besides, you can use magic to disappear!

Jon Carter and Dale Olstinske from up north are coming down. They both have H-9 P-7's with Dale's being electric. Should be fun!
BTW, I'm working on getting a radar gun so maybe someone can lay claim to the fastest Classic at the meet!

I'm going to try to get there as early as I can. I want to get ideas for making an E-Classic plane. I'll always keep my Escape (first real pattern plane I owned) but gonna keep it a slimer. If only my engine mount wasn't broken on my Sonic 500(Quickee) I would have competed with it. Flew quite a few contests wayyyy back with that plane in Novice.

Guys, the forecast for Saturday is not looking very good. It will be sunny, but high winds, in the order of 25mph. I would like to postpone this to Sunday, which was in the original plan. I've heard from Jon and Dale up north and they're good with Sunday. How about everyone else?

Well it is in the books. It was 41 degrees when Jennifer and I arrived at the field this morning, up from a low of 28 degrees. You boys back east can laugh, but that is cold by So. Cal standards! We had eight pilots in four classes. Jon Carter and Dale Olstinske came from up north to represent in Master's with an E-powered Kaos and P-7. Doug Woodward came with his immaculate E-powered Conquest 4, and at his first pattern event Cal Orr flew his E-powered Kwik Fli 3. Half of the field was E-powered!
Much thanks and gratitude to Tony Frakowiak for hosting and CD'ing the event and also to Mike and Jean Greear for scoring and fixing up lunch for everyone. Also thanks to Vic Anderson, Jamie Schoolcraft and Bill Wallace for judging. The Lancaster group are a great bunch and hats off to them for the use of their facility for this event. Classic pattern can certainly stand on it's own.
Pic's to follow.
Here is the finishing order:
Masters:
1. Tony Frakowiak
2. Robert Fish
3. Jon Carter
4. Dale Olstinske
Advanced:
1. Doug Woodward
Sportsman:
1. Chris McMillin
2. Mike McMillin
Novice:
1. Cal Orr

RE: Classic Pattern Only Contest? Lancaster, Ca. IT'S ON!! Nov. 10-11
Well, it was a great day of flying Classic Pattern models! In the future we will plan ahead a bit more and try to get some more guys to come out. But it was great to see the interest and to get at least one entry in each class.
I had a lot of fun telling Cal that our club had a muffler rule! If you look at the pic of his Kwik-Fly it looks like it's powered by an Enya .60III. He did a great job of using that to hide the electric motor! It was great to see him come out and enter his first pattern meet.
The other great thing to see was some very good electric power systems at this contest. Guys like Doug, Dale, Jon and Cal showed us some very competitive electric Classic models. I still like hearing that screaming glow engine coming in for a run, but the reliability of those electric systems is tempting.
A very sincere thank you to Mike and Jean Greear for the scoring, awards and the great chili lunch. Thanks to Vic, Jamie and the drafted Bill Wallace for judging. Thanks to the AVTI club of which I am the VP and Treasurer. And thanks to all the pilots who came out. Spread the word!
I'm already starting to plan the next meet. It seems like one-day events are the popular option so right now I am thinking of a February weekend of Pattern with the Saturday being AMA/F3A and Sunday being Classic. I'll be posting soon the exact dates.

Sorry I had to miss it! I was mid-aired a few weeks ago and my Kaos was totaled so I am in the mode of replacing her - I had over 300 flights on that girl!
Looking forward to February!
