Bobt2, I never sand the edges of my kits. And they all build very well, never got any complaint from customers.

well,i was going to start the build this weekend, but it looks like sandy has other plans for us. i live on the bay here in the northeast and it looks like we will be moving to higher ground. last year irene gave me 4 feet of saltwater in the shop and this looks at least as bad...stay tuned.

Glad to hear that you made it through. Can't imagine the ordeal that you folks have gone through. Thank God for the warmer weather hope it continues for a while. Well, first things first, I'm sure the build will come in due time. Good luck getting things back in order. Joe

After many years of putting the Decathlon back for other projects finally built it up. Flys great with DLE 111 a little on heavy side at 38 lbs but you would never know it by how it flies and lands , I like to keep adding details. extremely happy with the plane in all respects
cheers john

so, i finally started the build. i see the plans call for 1/4 x 3/8 balsa cross braces. my kit cutter supplied spruce..what do you think? too heavy for the application?

Helloo: Sorry so long getting back to you, I used bass wood cross brases for mine not sure what the plans called for. Couldn't put my hands on the plans so I checked my plane. My thinking was that the slight difference in weight of those parts wouldn't amount to a hill of beans, I went for extra strength. Joe

Hello Bob, Sorry, so long getting back to you, just had a chance to look at the plans, fuse is sheeted from fire wall back to F17.
On the rt side is the door. On mine I made the window on the left side open and the door on the rt opens as well.

i know i,m getting into this thread late so if i missed something pages back, sorry, but the formers on the bottom between the gear and the firewall are way undersize, imo. is there a lot of material that needs to be removed from the lower sides? the middle former barely touches the fuse sides at the inside, let alone the outside.

Hey Bob2, Well, don't know what to say, Mine went together with no problem in tha area. I've been trying to think of what you may have going on. Have you checked and double checked the width of the fuse?
Seems that there has to be something wrong there. At this point can't help, Let me know what you find. Joe

no it can't be the fuse. all the formers and firewall fit perfect. the former against the gear is fine. the 2 in front of them appear too small, and there cut to the plans. unless they are suspose to be cut in the middle? also, the font 2 don't have enough slots to match the gear former

lets try this. the fuse width remains constant from the gear plate to the firewall. former w2bc is at the front of the gear, on the plate. it is 11 in wide with 9 slots. correct, next foward is f2cc at only 10 in wide with 5 slots and at the back of the firewall is f1ac at only 8 1/2 wide and again 5 slots. what am i missing. these match the plans exactly as shown. but only f2bc is shown in a full fuse cross section.

Hey BOb2, Did you overlay the parts IN QUESTION on your drawing? I'm wondering if your kit cutter sent the 30% parts for that area? Just a thought. Like I said before I had no problem with that area.
