The fact is it does not take any more effort to do it right than it does to do it wrong. It just takes some testing to prove otherwise. The current wing mount stresses the wing and with a heavy hand tears it apart. Add some flight stress and wammo there you have separation!
The wing mount mod is great and simple and very easy to incorporate into production. Simply making an update to the bulkhead and wing mount design for the production ARF will translate directly into the Kit as well. Both benefit and both are that much better for it. I'll be doing the same type of mod to mine next.

I have 2 flights on the beautifll plane, and I love how it looks and flies. Has anyone had any issues with tail waggle at high speed?

I've owned 3 Corsairs and they have all done this. Maybe the high spine(behind the cockpit) blanks the vertical stab.

I was looking things over last night before I move on to mounting my engine and I realized that there is a lot of slop in the rudder set up. Has anyone mentioned this or said anything about rudder flutter? I searched the thread but didn't find anything. The last several inches of the rudder pushrod are unsupported so it can flex and the tourqe rod is only about 3/4 inch long glued into the base of that big rudder so there is a lot of leverage there. I can move mine quite a bit side to side with out moving the linkage and it doesn't center very well. I tried supporting the push rod and beefing up the area where the torque rod is glued into the rudder but it still isn't great. I am pretty close to cutting it off and starting over. Any thoughts?

Thought I would share my tail wheel set up with the Robart electric gear. Using some tips I learned here in RCU I extended the gear a bit itself and put about 3/16" spacer blocks on the mount to further move it down to give a better scale apperance when extended. The tail sits way too low if built out of the box. One of my flying buddies who is also building a Corsair gave me the inspiration for the door set up. Thanks everyone! It's amazing how much good info is out there if you just look for it and ask.

There are many ways to hooking up gear doors, but not alot of ''cheap'' ways. I believe the regular kit built TF GS build thread has a few ideas on rigging up a mechanical wire and paddle type system in where the wheel closes the doors or having levers mounted to the doors is another. Other wise you need some kinda actuation system to open and close them. There are many pneumatic and or electric setups out there.
I already had the pneumatic gear for this plane so I decided to use some air cylinders to operate the doors and go with a UP3 valve. This type of air valve can adjust the timing of the doors and gear separately. I mounted it to the wing to keep all the air lines within it and only need one quick disconnect supply line from the tank in the fuse. The air cylinders are 1-5/8'' from BVM.

that is probably the neatest and best gear door acuator setup I have seen. Very well done!

Does anyone have a measurement from the firewall to the face of the prop hub for this model, particularly a DLE-55? I don't see one in the manual anywhere. I hung my engine yesterday and mine seems a little farther out than the photos in the manual. I used 3 of the plywood spacers. What got me thinking is that they talk about having to cut the spacers out to clear the throttle and choke arms but there seems to be plenty of clearance on mine. Right now my measurement is about 7 1/16 inches.

I'm about to that point on mine too and I also couldn't find it either. I did find it on their website though.
Tower's website puts the distance from firewall to cowl opening at7-1/8" (181mm).

By any chance do you have pics of engine install of the dle55ra. I put the ra in my p40 and considering the 55ra or the 60 twin in the corsair. How close is the stock muffler to the firewall and were the extensions long enough to exit cowl? If the plane is finished, how much weight was added to balance?

Almost ready to maiden. Just waiting on my graphics From Callie Graphics. Had to add 4oz on the firewall to balance.
Operating retract doors on tailwheel and mains is the only mod I did. DLE 55 under the hood and Power HDservos. AR8000 receiver. 4 Blade carbon fiber prop 19 x 8. Ihave not weighed it yet.

The engine required no mods and fits excellent in the Corsair. I dont need any pipe extensions and there is plenty of room around and behind the pipe.
Distance to firewall box at the top is about 3/8 and the pipe chamber has a radius so the space increases. I added three fender washers to set the distance of the prop hub by the book.
My battery pack is strapped on top of the standoffs as well.
My plane is almost complete now and Im adding the cockpit and scale pilot and working on the dummy radial.
My understanding on the Twin 60 is the plugs will stick out of the cowl but the heads will fit OK. So not a very attractive prospect. The 55RA is the way to go.
