Default Dynaflite Decathlon CG queston??

I am just finishing my Dynaflite Decathlon. I am questioning the CG location. It seems to me
it is very far forward. (nose heavy) I have mine balanced at the rear limit of the CG shown on the plans.
I would like to hear from other builders as to their experience with the CG on their plane.

Thanks,

Steve

I am no expert at analyzing design CG locations. I flew mine as recommended and it did fine. I did have a problem with the airframe being tail heavy.

I would suggest that you first fly the model using the forward or mid location of the reconmmended CG range and then adjust the CG to suit your flying style.

I flew mine at the recommended balance and later gradually moved back a bit to where I liked it.

I have one of the Decathlons, great flying plane. Don't remember where the recommended CG was, but I usually balance my planes on the spar and after a few flights, go back from there. Not exactly sure where I have the Decathlon now, but I will check it next time i fly it. Many of my planes are behind the recommended CG and fly the way I like, stable in normal flight but snappy when I want them to be. I even had the twin J-3 below doing snap rolls -

What makes you think so, Steve?

Note:
You must check the balance point with all components installed in the model and the fuel tank empty.

Steve,

You didn't say what type of engine you used for your D.F. Decathlon. I used a
Super Tiger 2300, with the 3 tail servo's under the wing. It still came out tail
heavy and had to add 6oz of lead to the nose. A gas engine would have been
a better choice. I no longer fly it due to the 2300 being extremely unreliable.

Jeff
