Okay, I've started the recovering process and I now remember why I was so hesitant to strip her down.
Coverite (fabric covering) isn't as easy to work with as the plastic Oracover type films... It's very easy to press too hard, damage the balsa and leave mars where the Iron had dragged across (not supposed to drag it across the fabric whereas it's okay to do that on the plastics)...So maybe I'm a lil' rusty - but hopefully it'll end up being close to looking like a factory job. [Man, those guys in vietnam sure did a clean job of covering the plane- I guess after doing a few hundred, mine might look that good too].
The tail is almost completed and with some luck, I'll have the wings or fuse come by this weekend.

Did some more work. Finished the firewall mods and coated in epoxy resin that went a bit funny. May have been the heat and humidity?

Looks ok and sealed so that's the main thing
.

Also Bought a new Ignition switch and installed in front cockpit.

I finally decided to add some ply to the side of the box and bolt to the floor like the rear. But had already installed the fuel tank platform so had to take a bit out.I installed 2mm T-nuts so could screw 2mm bolts and washers to lock the switch housing down so can take out if need be. Also have made a place to mount the LED off the opto kill switch so when turning the ignition on U can see it is live.

Back item is template to cut holes in floor of cockpit.

Hi,

My friend did maiden his electric PT-19 on friday. I filmed his maiden. Still have to add windscreen etc. The plane was nose heavy, but flew fine.

Here is a link to the video:

Hi Terje,
thanks a lot for your video! This proves that this model is able to fly!
I'm almost ready with my makeover. I still have to do a bit of weathering and install the engine and electronics.
Two more weeks and my seagull pt-19 is ready for the first flight!

Regards,
Panos.

Hi Panos,

Your recovered model looks great!

I will receive mine on Thursday. I will rebuild it to a Norwegian PT-26 used in Little Norway Canada during WW2. I will add a canopy + Norwegain decals etc.

I think the oleo struts (landing gear legs) looks a bit too long. I will consider changing them as well.

Hi,
thank you all, yes the landing gear legs are very long (it looks like a German aircraft)!
If I like the flying characteristics of this model and decide to keep it I will also replace the long landing gear legs and the windscreens (they are to big) as well.
A pt-26 version is a good idea!

regards, panos

Hi,
finally yesterday I was able to fly my PT-19 for the first time!
This model flies very good, easy, smooth, scale! I will keep it!
Enough power with the 120 OS four stroke, most of flying is done with 3/4 or less of the power.
All up weight 5,2 kg.
Flaps are nice put not really necessary, this model can fly very slow for the landings with out using the flaps.
Some pictures...

Wow...That was impressive !
I finally got mine covered and decided not to be particularly scale- given I want to fly her and I realized it'll take more time than what I'm prepared to put into it. I decided to go with a favorite paint scheme of mine: From the 308th Fighter Squadron, 31st Fighter Group, 15th U.S. Army Air Force, in Mondolfo, Italy, November 1944- This is a scheme typically seen on P-51's but I thought this baby would look nice in this paint-job.
So Aside from the Silver Corerite fabric, the rest is paint with vinyl letters and "Major" Brand Stars & Bars.
I've opted for Dubro pin hinges, but the rest is pretty stock

Last pic for the day: - It's finally starting to look more like a PT-19- although fictional markings- I really like the way she's coming together
I haven't decided on the engine since i don'r want to hack up the cowl.
I have a FPE21cc, a DLE20cc and am considering an NGH25cc...Unfortunately the FPE21 has a side carb, but since the rest of the plane isn't super scale- maybe I shouldn't care.

Hey No Flaps the scheme looks great.
Would not know that it wasn't painted like that originally just looking at it,

Looking forward to seeing some more pics.

Mine is back on hold just at present, Just finished out fitting my new trailer and half way through a 46-55 Phoenix Sbach as I wanted another plane to just fly every weekend and practice a few maneuvers with.

I just need to fitt the cowl , pilots , windshields etc and balance. Then test run the motor, Then we will see if it was all worth it. so to speak. Looks like every one that have flown have been happy with them

regards Greg

Here she is at the RC field this weekend...
Didn't get to fly her due to some aileron twitch that I couldn't get worked out.-Did a bunch of taxi tests and more engine run ups. With the DLE20, she wants to jump in the air...I had to keep the rev ups limited to short bursts. Will sort out issue with aileron over the week and depending on weather- maybe a maiden next week

Hey no flaps she really looks good. Very impressed.
How did you get the DLE 20 completely in the cowl. Can't see it poking out any where.
I had to cot the side out for the pitts.

Hope to have mine running this weekend when our field reopens after it flooded in January.

Love to see some shots of the cowl and motor install.

regards Greg

Hi
Thanks for the great pics and info. So you are comfortable that a DLE 20 would fit in the airplane! Can you tell me the width of the fuse at the firewall. Would really appreciate it.
Thanks and regards

I'll get pics of it this weekend. Fits nicely though. I've been worried about the cooling but she didn't overheat durring the RCU tests and all went well.
The dle20 is more than enough fit this bird for sure.
