It has a saito 180 black night, 9 channel JR, too 2800 mah li-lon battery packs with voltage regulator and digital servos
Changed all the wheels and most of the hardware.
When I opened the box the canopy was busted but Tomas at Vq sent me a new one.
That’s the one in the picture. It had no paint had to mask and paint my self.
Very cool loking arf but not for beginners.

Sweet, a B model with canons. The first of it's kind! I would love to get a set of those but my plane is carrying enough weight already. I really don't want to have to bolt up a DLE-55 to fly the thing. LOL.

The Firepower bomb drop worked great. There are a few changes that I need to make relative to drawing the trapeze back up to the wing after the bomb has been released. I was hoping that the forward speed of the plane would push it back up and let the magnets take over from there, but that theory didn't pan out. I'm going to need a helper spring. I will try a couple of small rubber bands first. Here's a pic of the plane with the bomb attached. It looks really cool.

Man, your Stuka looks great! I would be cautious about adding a simple return spring or band to the trapeze, as it will cause the trapeze to not swing out properly. I did alot of testing, and that solution didn't really work without a couple of other things going on. I actually had a pretty cool setup going once, where the trapeze was spring-loaded to deploy & then was cranked up by a cable system- it all ran on one servo, even the release. It was cool, but occasionally it would foul up due to slack build-up in the cable, and it added yet more weight. Another varient I tried was a simple retractor wire that had a spring in the line (a la servo saver), which worked fairly well. Again, it was operated by the release servo. The main difficulty is that the trapeze has 2 static positions, one stowed against the belly & one with the bomb loaded. Both of these positions need to be achievable when the bomb drop switch on the radio is in the "off" position. The spring in the line allowed the retraction cable to "stretch" out to the bomb carrying position and still be able to fully retract against the belly for the stowed position. It still was more complcated & heavy than I wanted at the time, and it constantly put a load on the servo when the bomb was loaded.

So in the end, I went for simplicity and lightest possible weight decided I would let gravity deploy & negative G stow. Did you try a slight push-over, loop, roll, or a steep climb under power to stow the trapeze?

Just a little history there. Let me know if you are interested in the cable or wire retractor stuff... I can give you a head start.

Hey Rich, I had read a few of your previous posts about the retractor methods but thought I might beat that dead horse myself before I gave up on the idea. I did some full power climbs but not much else. At 19lbs, the plane likes to snap into a flat spin with even the most basic of aerobatic maneuvers.

Yeesh... sounds scary! You could go with a simple cable attached to the release servo... it may not pull it up all the way, but that is ok. I have seen many pictures with the Stukas returning from a mission with the trapeze hanging down a bit.

If you do fly it again before you tear into it, try a mild 15 to 30 degree climb, then do a mild push-over into a 15 to 30 degree dive, then level off. It should do the trick without too much scariness. At any rate, your plane looks great and I look forward to seeing more pictures of it!

Hope you enjoy the trapeze!! Did you get a bomb, too? I can't remember... I have been having some memory/ other health problems again lately.

Sorry to hear about that, everything else seems trivial when your health is poor. I hope you feel better.

I did get a bomb. I asked you a stupid question the other day, remember?

I am getting close to ordering the B model. I know there are ESM spinners, but none seem to be in stock. First, what is the diameter for the B model spinner, and second, Can a parabolic type be substituted? I am considering getting a Tru Turn if they have something close. I do not care if it is perfectly scale. I cannot find the diameter anywhere though.

I think the B version is 4" and the D is 4.5".

Cool, thanks for the reply. Gonna go with a DLE 30. Looks like Tru turn may have something. Too bad the vendors of these ESM planes do not have any stock. Spinners seem to be one of the weak areas with ESM.

Don't forget about Dave Brown. They have a 4" spinner for about $45.00
Tru Turn will run you around $75.00 and up.

I get all of my spinners from Dave Brown. I see no advantage in using the very expensive Tru Turn brand.

The only difference in the two brands is Tru Turn charges more.
If you search Tower Hobbies you can even find aluminum spinners made for the GP and TF models that are good quality, reasonably priced.

Horizon also has several sizes of parabolic aluminum spinners under hangar 9 name for good price. You can also check amazon. Sdshobbies might have something as well

Did everybody just give up on this thread? I just got my ESM Stuka "D" model a couple of days ago from a fellow member at my club. Came with a NEW DLE-35RA engine. Power HD 1501 servos all around.
The plane only had one flight on her. Seems that on the maiden flight she went straight up for the moon cause she was very tail heavy. The pilot called out for help for someone else to help get her down without crashing. Another pilot was able to cut the engine with the kill switch and glide her in. The plane was hauling ass when it came down over the runway and continued to the runway end into the tall grass. Had some minor fiberglass damage to the rear of the fuselage between the cockpit and tail. Just splintered the glass a bit ,but nothing that can't be repaired. The glass damage was not all the way through the glass just on the surface.

Anyway, after the crash landing the owner decided that he wanted to sell the plane so now I have her. I've been reviewing the posts here on the site and getting some good ideas from you guys.

Regards, Jim

If he followed the manual for the cg location it was definitely tail heavy. Nice pickup for you though! One man's stupidity is another's fortune! Search this thread for the proper cg location and she will fly wonderfully. Start out at 130mm and go from there. It's also very important that you make sure to align the flaps and ailerons correctly. Again, search the thread for the procedure on this and you should find some pictures that show the correct setup.

This is a great airframe that can carry a ton of weight and still slow to a crawl for landings. Good luck with yours!

Hello irocbsa
I see where others have adjusted the C.G somewhere between 120mm & 122mm from the leading edge of the wing. Is this OK? The manual states 128mm from LE.

That's a great idea. Do they sell the gear separately?

Question in relation to the bomb drop trapeze, did you find a way to make it go back up ???

No I didn't. The trapeze kept breaking off due to hangar rash so I just removed it.

I was considering to get one for scale purposes but if that the situation I´ll think about it.

Thanks,
