RE: Glassing A Warbird With Resin Never Again Maybe
I thought I should close the circle on this thread. I have been flying my 47 all summer in the worst heat I have seen in Texas in a while. This finish method seems to hold up fine. The question is would I use it again? The answer is Yes. This is quick it takes paint well and it’s cheap. It holds up well to transport etc. I fly almost every weekend and the 47 is my daily flyer.

Hey Farmer question, did you have any issues with it being soft. Reason I`m asking is I did my Stuka with it and I found if I leave it on my stand for a day or 2, I would find a crumpled mark at the spot that was in contact with what ever it was resting on. For example if it was on plastic you would see the creases of the plastic imbedded on the plane. It would go away after a few days , level it self back some what.
Now I must say I did the cover since about May and I painted about July in Latex house paint. I have not done a clear coat yet because I`m still working on weathering and other fine details. So I do not have the hard shell of a clear coat yet. So I was just wondering if you had any problems with marks being left on the surface if left in contact with foam on your stands or plastic etc for a period of time.
Also do you use any of the stuff left over pass the 6 month time frame. If you did what was the out come. Did it set or not.

I dont have that issue. My 47 lives in my trailer with a hold down on it at all times. I can only talk about how this worked for me and the way i chose to use it. I shot home depot exterior house paint with no clear on it.

I have done a small tester with the eze kote with 2 coats on top of the 0.6oz cloth and I can still see the weave and some of the wood grain. I assume this happens with the other methods also. where too from here?

I,ve been intriged with this grand experiment and the builds. One question does the ss require additional costs for hazmat shipping. I say somewhere in one of the threads that the coloring additive required it, but did not see anything on the SS1000. I also lookes at wow and the LSII to see what the shipping costs were and did not see anything on additional costs for hazmat shipping.
Thanks Bob

If it is Hazmat, it must not be in quantities large enough to warrant special shipping. Over-The-Road is far less stringent than shipping by air carrier. I work for an air taxi service in the Gulf Of Mexico and we receive deliveries all the time that we can't fly, but they can bring to us.
