RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Sometimes you just have to sacrifice for your friends. Eugene decided to get rid of his 72mHz radio for a 2.4. I told him I'd help him out but Bob would have to come over cause if I had to program a Futaba Radio it wouldn't go well. I'm picturing myself taking a Hatchet to the Radio and possibly the plane. Who ever designed Futaba programing must have been sitting on his brain. Enough ranting.
When Eugine got there I found out that he wasn't his usual thrifty self. He had about 10 extra feet of servo wire in a nest like configuration. I threw some of the Extra servo wires I had in a bin and you couldn't tell much of a difference. (Just having fun with the pictures.) It wasn't Quite that bad. LOL. We got it straightened out and programed and Eugene went home with a smile on his face. Bob P. also got the radio Switches programmed where he likes them. Now every body is happy.

Just so you know. I have the plane back up on the wall pegs. Doing Christmas things and haven't had time to mess with it. Looks like I may have a little time tomorrow. Bad weather, High winds and blowing snow. That's usually a good time to stay home and go out in the shop.

The Wife is out in the kitchen baking cookies and pastries. This don't do much good for my diet so I'll go off of it till after the New Year. It does remind me that tomorrow is Christmas eve and it comes sooner in Oz.
I wish all of you a Merry Christmas.
PS: Pete. Stay away from the Hungarian wine. You want to remember Christmas.

Well folks ....happy new year...
I need help with the tail gear doors.
I know there are few ways to connect the doors to the wheel so that when it retracts it closes shut.
I use the rubber bands method on my P-51 but I don't think I can use it in this case.
How did you guys connect the doors? any pictures or explanation would be great.
Thanks!
Fabio

I must have lost some of my pictures. I can only find this. It's a real pain in the but to get the geometry correct. I did a lot of trial and error. The bracket is pretty much where it needs to be to work right. I'll get some dimensions later to get you started. The aluminum bracket on the mounted on the retract was made out of 1/16 thick angle aluminum. I used a belt sander, dremel tool and files to make it.
Happy New Year everyone.

Worked on the fuel tank today. Part maintenance by putting new lines on the inside and the outside of the tank. Also had to reroute the feed line to the carb for the new location.

Hi Tom
Thanks for the quick reply.
Looking back to some of your post I came across the same dilemma I am facing right now.
I look at your pictures and I seems that the ball link mechanism works if you shorten the fork.
Am I correct in saying that?
Would it work any other way?
Thanks
for the help...

Fabio. Let me know if you need help cutting the fork down. Won't cost much to mail it back and forth.
PS. I also got a smaller tail wheel.

The smaller TW really made it work better..I believe you made me a spare set of those doors from fiberglass.
I'll see if I can find them ..

Here ar two pictures from today.
The cut down fork is 1 7/16" from the top of the pivot in the picture to the Center Line of the axle.
The distance between the C/L of the two balls on the arm are 3/4"
Distance between the C/L of the ball links on the push rod is 1 1/16". Note the balls are facing opposite of each other. This is so it don't bind while going through the arc.
The wheel is 1 1/2" I used the aluminum hub because I had to drill it out to fit the axle. The plastic wheel didn't have enough material to drill it out that far.

Tseres, did the intake give the carb. enough room to breath? I was thinking of using the same intake on mine when I get back to working on it.

Cut down the ballast box to clear the carb setup. The two receiver batteries will go on top of the box where the ignition battery is now. I will probably eliminate the ignition batterie with an IBEC (ignition battery eliminator circuit). I've gone away from the ignition batterie on all my gassers. The IBEC is the same price as the battery but you don't have to charge it. What can I say. I'm lazy.

Got everything mounted under the cowl according to the plan I had. There is interference in 3 different spots and I cant get the cowl on. Have to think about it for a while but I think I'll have to cut out the internal mounting screws and go back to the original mounts. It's not a competition plane so it wont matter.

Hey guys I know this is not the place to ask this queston but I did not want to start a new post.
A good freind of mine past a way a while ago, and his wife is asking me to help her sell his birds.
As such he has 2 TopFlite Gaint P47
One is a kit built with done Razor Back, with a G62 Spring start good servos and robart Retracts. Its not fiberglassed but covered nicely and has panel lines drawn on. The only down side to this bird is he got some nice aftermarket fiberglass Cowl that needs to be painted black and white checkers.
The secound I was there when he got it last year at a Air Show.
Its a Arf recoverd in Silver and black, with panel lines drawn on, the same nice cowl, done nicely with a AR9000 reciver, smoke and robart retracts and a DLE55. but no tail wheel retract and good servos.
The secound one is sweet but I like the razor back.
My issue is I alrady have a new TopFlite Gaint P47 in the box wateing for me to get to, I was going to put a ZDZ80Super with a 22X10 4 blade prop. But I have seen this P47 3 times at my flying feild wich bothers me.
So my question is which would you getAs both are detailed out better than I have yet been able to do.
She only wants me to pay $500 for eather one, even thow I told her how much there worth, but she wants to help me out for helping her out.
My only othere option is to chose the TopFlite Gaint P51 with DA50 and Kelio muff, with robart retracts, but it looks plane like mine did.
My only issue with the P51 is every one got one, and I had had one with a DLE55 with Kelio muff that I lost at a show due to my 4cell nicad reciver pack in my DX8 Craped out.
Im finishing up a TopFlite GaintP40 this week just looking for a good poilt.
Sorry guys I just need help makeing up my mind becouse I feel odd about the whole thing, Mike

Pete. Your silence worries me a little bit. I don't have any news about where the fire is so I hope you're safe from it.
I have the cowl half way remounted with external screws. I'll load some pictures after I get it done. I don't like redoing things so it may take a while.
