Al
If you guys like the R70, as i do, you will LOVE the R90.
Maidened mine today (see the Revolver 50cc thread), and it flew beautifully.

Oh, man...
I'm REALLY trying hard to stay away from that thread......
I'm like microdon2, my car (CRV) would be bulging at the seams with that thing in it. I struggle with 30cc stuff. It's one of the reasons I like the 20cc stuff so much!
Congrats on the maiden though! Awesome!
one slightly jealous.....

RE: Larger Revolver
Al - though my CRV isn't the reason I'm not pulling the Rev 90 trigger yet - it's a budget thing. Plus I already have five planes on deck waiting to be built \ finished. (though that doesn't mean a SIXTH plane couldn't cut the line...)

Mike:
i cannot comment on the R59, which i do not have.
I only have one flight on the R90 so far, but it really is a beautiful flier. My R70 has become a speed plane now, with a 13.5 pitch prop. I'll have my eagle tree instrument package installed soon, so will be able to give some hard data on speed, g-forces pulled, etc.
Al - just leave the liftgate up!

Oh, I didn't mean to imply you were using the CRV as an excuse. I am!
I should also mention I've been distracted a bit with a flying side trip into electric foamies - the EPP 3D profile variety? I haven't flown electric since I stuffed an .05 in the sawed off nose of a Gentle Lady when the electrics were in their infancy - 30 years ago? Well, anyway, this low and slow stuff that recently claimed my OMP Fusion (Mojo 65 kit on it's way too) has me wanting to get better at that, AND lower and slower - and this stuff is letting me do that on the cheap! I've built and flown a 43", have a 48" on the bench, and a 6-7oz (with battery!) super lightweight 36" for some indoor flying I hope to be doing soon! Power to weight similar to gas (yes, stupid power!), but much smaller and slower allowing for flying in a smaller area. Plus, they're nearly indestructible. If you do manage to tweak one, all mine are made from EPP foam - which works well with about any glue, including CA. That, and when they break, they do so cleanly. You just stick the parts back together, CA them, and you're back in the air again... -Al

Just one caution? They're priced where they can be pretty addictive!
Here's a link to the one I have flying. You can get it as an ARF or as a "kit" where you pick out all your own electronics. That's the way I went, making a lot of mistakes with gear that's heavier than necessary - part of learning what's going on with these things. Pretty popular plane. Note it's 15% off for the next couple days....
The arf:
http://www.nitroplanes.com/02a-008-1...d-epp-arf.html
The kit
http://www.nitroplanes.com/02a-008-1...d-epp-kit.html
Kit also available at
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...m_EPP_ARF_.htm
Note also this plane has a wing loading and enough PRE INSTALLED carbon fiber that it does not require calm weather! PM regarding further suggestions. So far off topic with this, but thought there might be some interest here...
One last note and I'll quit. Landings can be quite interesting/different due to the TOTAL lack of momentum. You're used to pulling the power then gliding deep into the flare? Not the plan here. They just stop! Buy extra props! You'll need them getting used to that....

RE: Larger Revolver
Ahicks, I have been having the same exerience with a 48" epp edge. What a blast, but like you I am eating prop tips, with the different stall character. But what a blast. It will elevator in and fly like a feather, but the ESC sent with the package deal didn't work. So stick with the arf and by the electronics from Hobby King. Here is my source and a link to a You Tube video

S&S, you meant to say buy the kit, then spec. out your own electronics? Or did you mean to say ARF as you wrote?
That slow flying in the video is about where I'm at, what I'm screwing with. Lots of high alpha and pretty much the same thing, only on knife edge. Whoever that is, is ahead of me by a bit. I'm not that smooth - he's making it look easy!
The chin of my plane is taking a beating.... and the wing tips. A couple of small chunks missing - and grass stains/dirt. Nothing really broken though? Nothing but props, I've lost track of how many props I've used.

One of the better foamie 3D pilots here beefs up the nose area of his foamies with pieces of bi-directional packaging tape right from the start. He always seems to land in grass without any wheels also. He raves about how well his Multiplex? Parkmaster and his World Models Handy Man fly in 20mph wind.

RE: Larger Revolver
Al, They carry a bare arf and a combo. I bought one of each, with the thought of keeping the arf for spare parts. The combo, which included a motor, esc and servos seamed like a great deal, except the esc would not work. So I would stick with the arf in the future, and seek another source for the esc, motor and servo i.e. Hobby King.

RE: Larger Revolver
here it is now. very easy to do, took less than 30 minutes, and i just wonder, why did i not do this 10 flights ago. (dee dee dee moment)!![X(]
the white sleeves are stock, the red ones are slightly bigger OD and i drilled inside so that they telescope over the white ones by 20 mm, drilled new holes on more aft former, then glued them all in with 5 min epoxy. now, the servo movement is more in line with elevator movement, and much more responsive. up elevator requires pushrod to be pushed back, and this is where there is slight flex still, but way better than before.

RE: Larger Revolver
Thats it.... I did it!!!!
Now i have the dle 20!!!
My rev70 was first powered by supertiger75, that was nice but not good. The second engine was the asp120 that i recieved and it was better but the engine was died after 2 flights only, i tried for 1 flight the os91fs that was very very slow and not good and the last one was the os 120 fs that was very good but the sound of the engine was very lazy. Thats all now i will fly with the dle.... And i know that this is the ideal engine for the rev70.

RE: Larger Revolver
I did my best to find your previous thread with pics of R70 setup. I am mostly interested in your pull-pull, carbon rod use, and just overall setup. Could you please point me to the specific post or ANY pics you may have of your Revol;ver 70" setup, etc.??? .... much appreciated.
I just bought the Revolver 70", and have a new Saito FA-100 GK ready to go in her. Thinking about using an APC 14X7 prop. Thoughts?
Have you reinforced the LG, and if so, what was your method?
Sorry for all the Q's, but I am pysched about getting this plane setup to fly properly, and then fly the livin'***** crap outta her.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Don

RE: Larger Revolver
The 14x7 / Saito 100 might be good for speed. I think I'd go with a 15x6, more relaxing overall and will not tend to land so hot. I'll run a 15x4Wide APC on my 3D profile / Saito 100 for in close flying.

ortho
I ran a 14x12 as well on the DLE20; i don't have my eagle tree instrument package with GPS installed yet in the R70, but I'll be able to get some speed number shortly.
I just bought a 14x13.5 APC for her; might be a bit too much prop, but we'll see.
S&S - you are right; ancient history, but he was looking for setup pics, and i could find mine!

RE: Larger Revolver
Granpooba - the props I've seen work with the DLE 20 are the 16x8 and 15x10. So I guess a 14x12 would work, too.
WJC - what kind of ground speed are you getting with that combination?? I'd imagine it would be impressive.

RE: Larger Revolver
Not if there's enough pitch on it?
You likely know this, but it's about total load, which is a combination of diameter AND pitch. You can increase or decrease either, and as long as you go the opposite way with the other, load will remain the same. What changes is efficiency. The smaller diameter will be more efficient at speed, the larger at slower speeds.
