Default A7 Corsair Scratch Build Prop Jet..

Got some progress done with the A7 project. Building a larger version of the House of Balsa A7 Corsair.
Got the wing finished and mounted to fuse. Fuse is nearly done just need to finish the contour of the
fuse and finish the fin and rudder, rear deck and stab mounting. Also need to finish the nose, mounting
the engine and canopy detail.

Did you blow up HOB plans or draw your own? What size is it and what kind of power is going to pull it?

Very impressive!!! I was wondering the same thing, did you just enlarge templates and the plans of the HOB or did you draw your own?

Guys, I drew out my own plans 1 1/2 times bigger than HOB's, using them as a guide. The ribs were the hardest to make.
The wing span is just under 60" and the length is around 58". Putting a OS 61FX in it hoping that will be plenty.
Will have to see what the weight will end up being. Thanks for the comments. It's starting to look good.
Finished the bottom of fuse and installed the wing sheeting to blend into fuse. Also cut out the fin and rudder..

Very well planned enlargement. Suspect you have more training than usual. I have this same kit, but have not ventured to build it yet as other broken planes seem to need me more than building new ones. My investigation of this House of Hobbies model found some discussion on the kit landing gear was weak. I am glad to see a metal main gear system on you enlarged version. I am a retired aircraft mechanic and seem to find areas of construction somewhat on the iff side. Beefing up areas, and increasing wood strength works well for me, and believe the airworthness of the model makes it safer to fly. Your construction looks very much like you have the same idea.
Please keep us informated as this could be a model others would like to build. The engine size fits very nicely in such a model.

Thanks AeroRich, yes I beefed up the construction. The original model flew fantastic but landings were always a problem. I could grease the landing and it would bounce all the way down the runway. I'm hoping the metal gear will stop that problem. Getting ready to cover the wing. Got all the servos mounted for flaps and ailerons. Will cover with Solartex and going to do a camo paint scheme.

If you keep this up I will be forced to get that laser cut kit I have just sitting in the box in the shed and give it a go. (Flying Models 6/70 had a model . 60 powered, 64" length, 58" span.) As this was the type of aircraft flown off carriers when I first started in the hobby many, many years ago, I fell in love and have always wanted one. I have a ARF of one yet to be fitted out. I will be watching to the end of this thread. Yours Paul T

Thanks Paul, I got the wing finished and covered today. Plus got the engine mounted and made the front cowling, it's still drying. Will post some pics tomorrow.
I would like to see that one you have. I didn't know anyone else had made one. Thanks, Mike.

Looking real good now, have you any photos of the early stages of the wing. Keep it going. I'm in the middle of a Senior Tellemaster or I'd be with you for some of the way.

I'm not stirring the pot, but the A-7 is the Corsair and the F-8 is the Crusaider. Similar in appearance but very different aircraft. Both built by Vought later LTV (Ling/Temco/Vought).

Got the bottom of wing and fuse painted a very light grey. Hope to get the camo on this weekend. Will post more pics then.
Thanks for all the interest. Just hope this thing flies like the small one.

Paul I had started another post earlier that has some pics of the wing. But I had most of it finished before I thought to take pics. I could take a pic of the wing plans that I drew up if that would help any? Or make a search for that earlier thread, titled A7 Corsair build.

One more color to go on fuse after finishing up with canopy detail. Will have to do some touch-up on grey
but will look good. Plan on putting a shark mouth on nose.
