Milton... when converting my MLD-35 to RCexl, I hit the wedge with CA to insure it didn't come back out... but simply didn't think about also locking the sensor housing to the bracket and of course after a few flights it worked back and gave a dead stick, fortunately a no problem one. Otherwise the conversion has worked fine.

Yes that is a must to glue the sensor housing to the bracket, I now saying that in my instructions.

By the way I have a MLD 35 new in the box that I got about a year ago but sold the plane I was going to install it in, Already converted to RCexl if anybody is interested.

So far the ignitions seems to be the only weak part of the engine.

The first MLD28cc I received was a dud and was replaced under warranty.  I've been so busy with work that it has taken me forever to get the replacement mounted and running.  Anyway, we got it going last weekend and it seemed to be running much better than the first engine I received.  Anyway....

What is the advantage to using the CM6 sparkplug over the stock plug?  What adapter is needed to make the conversion?

What spinners do you guys like for use with this engine?

I don't know of an advantage to the CM6 other than many of us use them in our 50cc engines so we only need to keep one type of plug on the shelf for spares. Since the CM6 plug is much shorter it does make getting the cowl on and off easier on my planes. I got my adapters from RCExtremepower.net

14mm to 10mm adapter. You install it with Red Locktite.

This thread has been dead for 6 months, Was just thinking how much I like these engines after I got over the problems. With the RcExcel Ignitions my two MLD28's in my 3DHS 70" Slick and 72" Extra ran great all summer. What I like best is how smooth they are. Just finished a 71" 3DHS Slick with a PTE36 on it and even though the power level of that engine, plane combo is ballistic it has a much higher vibration level.

With the exception of my experience with the ignitions I love the MLD28. Even though the 2 planes with these engines do not have great hover pullout they are running well, are fairly quiet and have more than adequate power for me. Not to mention that they are a real bargain (assuming the ignition woes are over) I fly mine with 18-8 Vess props. Much quieter and smoother that the 18-6 in my opinion.

It is too bad that Melody was invested in their poor ignition. As you say, the engines run fine when given a good ignition. I've got a 28 though it has not yet been fitted to a plane. I am running a MLD-35 that I love, but only after changing the ignition to an RCexl. It starts easily cold or hot and has good power.

Most modelers will not be happy buying an engine to discover that they then need to spend $60 for an ignition that will work.

I am running two MLD 28’s and the 1st one has 100's of flights on the stock ignition turning a 18 X 10 XOAR The 2nd one had a bad ignition after one flight and I had to replace, $70 bucks later it is running great. Love the engines, but that was years before DLE was out. The market is full of great running engines in that size class. I had trouble getting service to replace the bad ignition since it took me a year to finish the plane. I could not even buy a new one …out of stock. I gave up on them. Sorry, but a distributer should stand behind their product when they have had problems. All the other vendors I deal with have great service so that is what determines where I spend my money. That ignition has had problems; no one is offering any solutions other than buy a different brand ignition. The only move was to lower the price.
The big problem changing the ignition was the difference in timing and getting a sensor bracket to bolt on and lineup. Was not a quick bolt on fix and I would not recommend going that route with a new engine. I always get comments how great my MLD’s start and idles and have good power…always get asked what engine is that. It’s funny that I have never run across anyone else running the MLD. My DLE 30 is a greater value.

Does CERMARK support for MLD-28 in the north America?

I bought a replacement ignition for MLD-28 from SDSHOBBY, but they seems not carrying MLD ignitions anymore.
(I bought a ignition fro MLD-35 and CM-6 adapter instead)

Later I had found the original ignition was okay, just the carb setting was wrong.
The new one is still in a box, since my gasser is not ready yet. I gonna try to use new one later tho.

Does CERMARK support for MLD-28 in the north America? Yes...That is where I got both engines.

My second MLD powered plane missed a summer flying season because of lack of support, at the end of the year I picked up a unit from Agape Racing and Hobby who I had asked about converting at Toledo show, they bent over backwards to send me the parts I needed to get the engine running..so I think Cermark did not do a good job supporting the engine they sell. This was 2 years ago and I would hope they have fixed the problem.

Figuring that having Cermark replace the ignition on the MLD-35 was another crap shoot at another bad ignition, I didn't waste the time, trouble and worry that it wouldn't be reliable... ordered a RCexl and it bolted right on with no timing problems and runs great.

I recently ordered a muffler for my MLD-35 and it came from Hong Kong so I'm unsure that any US supplier remains. Very sad... good engine... bad ignition.

We have seen some bad reports about our ignition in RCU, we wang to know in detail, but we can't do it from US before, Now we are looking for partner that can bring our sevice. As everyone here has stated. The 28 is an awesome engine. I got lucky and got a good ignition with mine. I did have problems with SPE ignitions, they are melody also (MLD). Save yourself the headache and get an Rcexcel single cylinder ignition. Easy to install and works great. they will give you support for installation if you need it. I got a new MLD 35 without ignition, and put Rcexcel on it and it is awesome. It took the place of my 28.
