Default Best Sport 40

I've been out of boats for 6 or 7 years. I have a crashed Phil Thomas Sport 40 that I'm thinking about rebuilding. Before I spend the time and money on it, just thought I'd check to see if there's anything better out there I should consider first.

Phil Thomas hulls are still one of the best, but I'm not sure if he has made any refinements since your hull.

PT 40's are definitely great boats, another great boat you may want to look at is the Whiplash Sport 40 from Blazer marine.
Now, what year is your SSP 40? because Phil has made quite a few changes on his hulls.

Dan.

know that up here in the midwest you run either a Phil Thomas or Brian Blazer (Whiplash) hull if you want a winner. Brian's boats are wood kits although his father can build one for you. I had a PT Sport 40 but unfortunately, I didn't run it much, long story.

I have a Phil Thomas and an AC sport40 out of British Columbia. The AC is gel coated and seems like a heavier layup making the hull stiffer. But I love the PT it's lively and it's easier to add weight than take it away. The Whip, PT, and AC are the ones being raced in our District.

The aeromarine and while i'm in here, the AC Model Boats Sport 40's aren't all that good. on the left coast, the Mutt from Henry Velasco is a hot one and David Preusse is working on one to start producing but I don't know when it'll come out. I've seen it race and run for the class speed record so it has potential. It's an old-school open cockpit styled hull.
