2 kids, running 3 business' and almost finished the a-10! There's only one thing better than a plane with one 44, and that's a plane with two of them! Just did the first runs on them today and sounds awesome as a pair!

Curious...Has anyone used the tank in wing that Savex supplies? If so, how well to they drain? Do they drain completley? How is the clunk set up etc?

I know this thread is about one brand, just about but still wish to know.
The HK L39 is made with FG not carbon f.
Cheer's
ps one of these will get used
Thank's again

The HobyKing jet is from CMP. It will fly fine on either engine. The p-20 will be a little lighter when finished... but the thrust can be minimal once it's blowing down a jet pipe. And... if you mount it in the tail... you will have to add weight to the front to balance. (and it will be heavy again)
I personally have a 90mm CMP t-45 with a wren 44 in it. My preference would be to put the wren into your L-39. It will take off fast, and it will easily get out of grass. (the P-20 may not get out of grass) In my T-45... I have taken the thrust down to 8#.

The Savex L39 is tail heavy even with the much lighter Kolibri T25 engine mounted in the tail and ALL electronics mounted up front in the nose cone. Center mounted Kolibri or MW44 would be good options. Lighter flies better even if it does pretty well loaded with a 17lb thrust Simjet 1200. The L59 from our all time favourite Hobbyking it insanely tailheavy. Even with a centermounted Kolibri it still needs alot of weight in the nose.
Tail mounting the engine means your fuel will end up 100% on th CG(!)

It depends on how hard you want to fly it. My T-45 is basically stock. My only mods are to fit the turbine, and it's parts. I didn't change the bulkheads, or beef up the wing at all. BUT... I'm not a speed freak. Like I said... mine is turned down to 8#, and most of the flight is at half to 3/4 stick. If you want to see how fast you can go with a CMP kit.. you may want to pull the bottom wing covering, and give it some carbon fiber. As far as I know... the CMP kits don't have a real spar in them.
But then again... the EDF guys push them hard, and I've never heard about a wing failure. (and big batteries are heavy)
Yes... Henke does nice work. I always have good intentions for doing a super clean install... but then I just want to fly. (and it gets ugly)

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
I'm not exactly sure what you are asking.
BUT........
You need 25 to 30mm from the engine nozzle to the bell mouth.
You also need about 10mm (as I recall) from the inside of the pipe ring... and 10mm inside the model. These two steps will create a vacuum draw in the model, and keep things cool. If you stick the pipe out of the model... you will overheat it.
BUT... if yo have a hot start... yes, you can scorch the tail of the bird. But then again... if you are having hot starts... your engine won't last long.

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
This thread is destined to live forever. But unlike some threads that mutate and devolve, this is a good thing - must be a great aircraft/engine combo.
I just joined the club, I took delivery of my L-39 about a week ago and already have the Wren 44 Gold. This is my first turbine model, but I am used to small fast models so I'm not worried about the flying part, though I will hook up with a jet jockey for first flights. I got lazy in terms of hunting down alternate retracts, I ordered the Jet 1A set with it as well. $OUCH! But they sure are nicely made. Seem a little too sturdy for this aircraft but that's better than spindly I guess.
I just redrew the engine mount on CAD and am about to cut that out and assemble. This thread is so darn long it is a science project just to wade through it and find the useful tidbits!
Anyhow I am tickled with the airframe, very light and reminiscent of some of the Ukraine made composite models I've seen. I opted for the built-in wing tank, that eliminates the task of fitting and plumbing tanks, other than the air trap.
Looking forward to putting this together over the winter. I've had the engine for three years, bench run it a few times just to get the adrenalin flowing, but bench runs are a poor substitute for flying - it was high time to get it in an aircraft.

Welcome to the club
Great model and turbine.
I have just go in from flying today with my Hawk and Wren 44 Gold.
Also there was a good friend who was flying the L39 Around in very windy conditions.
Great model, you will enjoy.
Keep us updated, i would be interested to hear how you get on with the wing tank.

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
It's a new and different project for me. After 40 years building FF/RC/CL glow sport models most problems are intuitive to solve, but with this there are new things to think about. While none of the fabrication required is much of a problem, I find I am at the starting block when it comes to the whys and hows.
Based on the info I've harvested from this thread and whatnot I've come up with a partial servo list:
Ailerons: HS5085 x 2
Flaps: HS5085 x 2
Rudder: TBD (in fin base, internal linkage, external..)
Elevator: TBD (single regular servo with split pushrod? Internal linkage?)
Nosewheel: HS85MG
Air valves:
Brakes: HS85
Retract: HS85
Rx battery: 2100mAh LiFe
Rx: TBD
Starter battery: hmm, not sure, but possible 2s 2100 LiPo if it gives enough rpm. Got a wishy washy answer about use of 2s and 3s with this system.

The Savex L39 still seems popular but the F-16 seems to be at a dead end.
Is there a reason for this or is it considered just a bit too difficult compared to the L-39?
I know the engine mount/undercarriage/wing mount is the complex heart of the F-16 wheres
the L-39 is what I would call conventional.
Is it up to me & my fixer-upper F-16 to revive it? - John.

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
I think if vaclav supplied a set of cnc formers for the f16 it would be far more popular.
the whole engine support, gear formers, wing tube formers thing was a complete nightmare to construct..
In fact i'm suprised that he still doesn't supply a set of formers for the l39 for the engine mount. I was lucky to have Yann make me an alu engine support that was absolutely perfect.

Does anyone have an extra/spare/leftover wing for the Savex L-39? I need a complete wing in fair shape. Color scheme doesn't matter. Right wing is completely destroyed just outside of gear mount.
Thanks.....

Thought I would revisit the old thread again, cant believe it is 11 years since it started!
Anyone still flying the L39 regularly?
We have a couple in our club, still fly really well, have to say, I am tempted to get another one!
That will be four I have had!
