If you are interested in a P-47 I think I would go with the first option.
All you have to do is paint the cowl which is rather easy compared to the other one that you need to buy new servos and tail gear which could be expensive.

I heard about the fires a few days ago and the report mentioned Brizzy so I e-mailed him his responce was they are fine but fires are all about and mostly farther south.

I would suspect his new lady is back from her world tour so he may be a bit pre ocupied

Hi Peter,

Have been watching your build for a few years now. Your P-47 will be very nice. I hope mine turns out as good. I would like to ask what air ram you are using for the inter main gear door? Hope you can tell me the length when open , close and stroke or part number. I am guessing that it is a Robart 165?

Richard, the builder of the plane in your picture used Flite Metal to cover the plane. That's how he did it.

No it is a metel tape or sheet material that is sticky backed and is gut in panel's there several ways to apply/install it. There are also several outher places to get the material from outher than Flite metal. If you have addittional questions just ask

hey guys,
all good here. Fires are not near us thank goodness but plenty of other areas are badly affected.

Busy with family and my lovely lady, catching up on the 3 months she was away on her trip. also my Dad is very ill so that is taking a toll. 47 is waiting patiently and will be back on it in due course.

Keep building those 47s guys

thanks mate. There were from sierra precission. forget the length but think they are about 1.25" in throw from memory. do some drawings using a compass to work out the throws by drawing arcs. that is how I worked out what I needed.

Made the new battery trays. unfortunately they are rubbing on the inside of the Cowl. Now I'll have to lower them a little for some clearance. Rounding off the front corner on the trays may work.

Hit those cowl bolts with some green paint to hide them better.

That install looks Great. but just a question have you run the engine as yet to see what kind of vib's you might have that could make problems ?

Its to cold hear to work in the shop -10 F with a wind chil of -30 so it take to long to heat the shop, so maybe next week with the heat wave + 20 I might get in there and get something done

We have about the same weather here. About 10F warmer all around. Not planning on starting the engine till the end of February or the beginning of March. If were lucky the weather will be OK to get out of the house. Usually that is about the time of the year when you get that one day that you've been waiting for all winter. The beginning of March is a little over 5 weeks away.

I don't anticipate any vibration problems with this engine. The electronic ignition should make this smoother then the magneto version.

Got the engine swap finished. Everything under the cowl is hooked up. I took the roll pin out of the high speed needle and cut a slot in the head for a screwdriver. Found some button head screws and painted them to match. Since it's almost time for our annual mall show again, I mounted the display prop. It's a good thing I did cause I had to rework it to fit this engine.

I have to finish hooking up the wiring in the fuse. I have a friend of mine making me a prop washer to fit my spinner. Then it will be ready to fire up.
