Well said Hutch.

I like the graininess of these pics, they remind me of period photos that we see from time to time. They are scans of old photographs. Apologies if they've been seen before.

Ian.

Strega - look at the pictures again - your P-47 picture show a smoke screen compared to the Corsair. Sorry, but the P-47 picture just doesn't look right in my opinion and that's all it is - my opinion. If you and others like the picture that fine - but I can say I don't think it's very realistic. After all, you've made your views clear on several pictures.

Tony, your photo of your DrI looks very realistic. It looks to me like an old photo of full-scale DrI replica.

Neil, regarding "critiquing" models, I feel that's one of the things that makes this thread worthwhile. Knowing it's a "tough crowd" watching this thread pushes me to built to a higher standard. I don't think this thread should just be about "happy model photography" and definitely not "here's my model." You did start the other thread ("Favorite Scale Models in Flight") that was less critical and both a great. Also bear in mind that some of us are primarily builders, others primarily fliers, and still others primarily photographers. That means we're all coming at this from different perspectives.

Here are a few I have taken over the years.

Unfortunately I live in Arizona where 90% of the time the sky is nothing but blue...... Go with National Geographic's idea and ''Bad weather makes for good photographs'' and photography can be a little challenging to get something looking really great.

SunDevilPilot
As a native of Southern Cal, I can appreciate how frustrating good year-round whether can be! Also during the three years I lived in Kuwait, I think I saw like four clouds. Anyway I just wanted to say that you Arizona guys seem to make up for the "lack of weather" with a large variety of quality scale models.

Can we just get back to posting photos of models that are hard to tell if they are full scale or not? I think there have been some great ones posted recently, but I also think there have been a few that are not close to what this thread is about. If you have to look hard at the photo to tell if it's a model, than it's a winner in my book. I also guess it all depends on how much you know about certain models/aircraft. I'm no Top Gun judge, but I can usually tell whether it's full scale or not pretty quickly unless it's great shot of a great looking model. But if it's obvious it's a model, than don't post it, period.

Wow! I'm nearly attempted to accuse straga7 of cheating with a full size plane! I see no way to tell if this is full scale or a model.

Ground shots are so much more difficult, I almost think there should be a separate thread for them.
thanks you folks for your kind feedback ... btw. @bokuda, just count the cylinders it would be the first 5-cylinder fullsize Bolt on earth the socalled P-47 Prius or so, just to save some avgas

Could the negative been printed backward??? That would change the direction of the symbols.

I think what Strega is talking about regarding the "angle of the swastika" is actually how the tips of the swastika are aligned/rotated. It's not a matter of them being in the "wrong direction" (which would end up looking like a Buddhist symbol) rather it's a matter of the swastika being slightly "out of rotation." That's possible. I'd have to look really really closely. But since Strega is from Germany he may have a more sensitive eye in this regard.

One of the most accurate scale models I have seen is this Apache AH-64 helicopter.

At sunset

And in good light showing all the details

Idigbo... Those 109 pics are truely brilliant. I remember posting one of them 6 million pages ago as a great example of what this thread is about.
They have a certain quality that adds to the illusion. Thats the name of the game... Not just taking high resolution shot of models.

Hi Mark,

Absolutely superb picture - No.1. If that helicopter doesn't scare the crap out of the enemy ground forces, nothing will!!!

How does one go about putting a large picture on here that isn't shown as a thumbnail?

Here's my F-100
Those are some great shots Greg. I like the burnt aft section a lot too. Definitely could pass for a full-size.

Upload your photos to a site like Flickr. On flickr or other picture sites there will be copy url or share button that will put the picture's address into your clipboard. Then use the "image" button above the posting box here on RCU and paste the copied URL in-between the "image|image" code.

When you click on the "image" button it will automatically put the prompts into your post, then you just click with your cursor between the words "image|image" to set the insertion point. Hit ctrl-v and it will put the picutre info into your post. That's it!

Thanks Neil. I know what you mean about a menacing look. That machine can do some incredible damage in just seconds. You would love seeing the detail work on the model in-person. It is a work of art.

Thanks Mark, hopefully this will work!! That heli is a stunning piece of work, even down to the two row tail rotor as can be seen by the disc!! Got any more pics of it?

Cheers for the comments on the 109 pics, now I know how to put them in large you'll have to put up with them again!! Plus a non scale shot from above!

Ian.

Great Ian, glad you got the image posting working - that 109 is fantastic!

Here's a ground shot of the Apache, and a look at the cockpit detail - Wow, the pilot is amazingly detailed with wires and mics. And even the custom made proper tail configuration.

Wow, that's a beauty! 125" electric is so cool. I like the scale look of the engine nacelles without cylinder heads popping out where they shouldn't be and so forth.

Congrats on joining in with the picture posting too. Only you're second post and you chose this forum.

The clouds really make that shot.

Thanks for posting and your heli looks quite nice with the fuse. Only problem is that the intention of this thread is to post images of models that look as scale as possible. Many of the shots around here can fool someone as to whether they are looking at the full-size aircraft or a scale replica. And that's the idea.

So on your heli I can see a variety of obvious non-scale features. All is not lost though because with a few photoshop actions you could have a nice near-scale model there. We are all trying to help each other to acheive realistic presentations and photoshop/image manipulation is not a bad word in here.

I would like to see your heli with no smoke exiting the bottom and no flybar paddles for starters. Those are pretty easy items to remove with photoshop.

If you wouldn't mind I could give it a few photoshop tweaks to make it more realistic.

Could the negative been printed backward??? That would change the direction of the symbols.

I thought that at first but the T on the wing and the T9 on the fuse is in the correct direction. It is possible I didn't place the swastika quite right at the angle though. But the left and right side of the tail are in opposite directions based on photos and other documentation I have.

BTW, that apache at dusk looks very realistic.
