Default EME 35cc Gas engine

I just ordered a EME 35cc gas engine from Chad at Taildraggers RC. It looks like a nice engine and I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experiance with this engine Here is the link to it if you would like to take a look see.

http://www.taildraggerrc.com/eme-gas...cessories.html

This is what I am planning on putting it in. it is a 1/5 scale russian I-16 WWII fighter.

If they run anything like the 60 and 120 you've got a winner, and I see reason it won't. Dennis

My recommendation was based on my experience with the 60, and I've got dibs on a 120 for my Pawnee tow plane as soon as I clear the cash.

Andy,

I understand why you recommended this engine. Chad sounds like a very good guy and I already have a USPS tracking # letting me know he has already shipped it. I was hoping to chat with some others who have used this engine and find out what prop that like best. Also it would be nice to know what thrust ratings it has on different props.

Jim.. Thanks again for your order! We had one eme 35 out of the box and with a xoar 19x8 was hitting 7600 rpm's a little rich out of the box..
I tthink it will handle the 20x8 well.. Engine is on its way to you! Thanks! Chad

Chad,

Thanks for the info on the eme 35. 7600 rpm on a Xoar 19x8 I believe is around 18ls of thrust are so. That will fly the I-16 very well. I think is will be at 16lbs when finished.

Sure hope that your engine arrives soon so that you can run it and give us some user generated numbers.

Karol,

I sure will give you guy's some RPM #'s once I get it mounted to the I-16. I think I will start with an 18x10 Xoar prop for a couple of tanks and see how well it does. I have a Xoar 19x8 & 20x8 on order.

On a guess, I'd say the 18 wont be near enough prop for that engine

Andy,

I think you are right about the 18x10 being a little small for the I-16. I am only going to us the 18x10 prop for a few tanks just to break it in a little while I am waiting for the Xoar 19x8 ans 20x8 to get here. The plane looks like it is going to come in at 14 are so lbs so I know the 20x8 well be plenty of prop for this plane/

How is your build of you fokker coming. I would love to see some pics of it and see how your engine fit in the fuselage.

Got the new 35cc gasser on Tuesday and mounted it to a test stand. I have a Xoar 18x10 prop mounted on it and I will run a couple of 12oz tanks thru it. After that I'll take some video with this prop and see how well it performs. It is 6 5/16" form the back of the stand off's to the back off the Xoar prop.[X(] I will have to us a 1/2 piece of plywood on my firewall to get the engine out far enough to clear the cowl. That is Ok because I am going to need as much weight as far forward on the plane to get it to balance at the CG Here are a few more pic's of the plane. It is coming along and I hope to have the EME 35 mounted in the plane by this weekend.

Got the EME-35 mounted to a test stand with a Zinger 20x6-10 prop. Sorry the Xoar has not gotten here yet. The EME fired right up and I ran the engine for 30 minutes. 3 ten minute runs. On the last run I open up the 35 for a few seconds and the RPM meter hit 7400RPM. [X(] That is pretty good for a engine right out of the box. I'll try and get some video on if running once I get it mounted to the Polikarpov I-16.

I fly with the Millington Barnstormers just 20 miles north on Memphis just off of Hwy 51. I will make sure I get some video of the maiden once the weather gets a lot better.

Blake,

I am afraid you are right about that. I have been watching videos of the real I-16 on take offs and they rolled a very long way on just their front wheels until they lifted off. [X(] I hope our 600" grass runway will be enough. I am over powering the plane with an EME-35 that put out almost 20lbs of thrust and the plan well weight in at 14.5 lbs. So I think I will get up to the right airspeed on the ground for left-off if I can keep her on the runway.

That should be plenty of power for most 27%-30% models. The zinger doesn't load the engine quite as much as a Xoar but still, 7400 is good output. Expect a couple hundred rpm lower with the Xoar

I was looking in an older MA mag where someone had looked at the Mintor 33. The 19x8 Mezjlik carbon was listed at around 7200 on the ground and around 7500 in the air.

An Xoar 20x8 woodie seemed to choke the engine down to 6K and the in flight capability was questionable. The article stated that the M33/Xoar 20x8 didn't reach 400 foot altitude. I suppose it died on the way up

Matt,

Thanks for the info on the Xoar prop. I am only using the Zinger to breakin the EM 35 a little. Once I get the EME 35 engine mounter to the I-16 I plan on putting on the Xoar 20x8 prop and see how well it does. I will use the Xoar on the maiden flight.

Finally got the EME-35 mounted to the polikarpov I-16. Here are a few pic's that show the engine and how the choke it setup. This is a great running 35. I am getting almost 21lbs of thrust out of this little engine swinging a Zinger 20-6x10 prop. I have a new xoar 20x8 prop that I plan to use on the maiden flight and I know it will pull even better than the Zinger.
