Hi All

My Spitfire has arrived .... I was feeling great, until I saw the paperwork, and thought we'd better start a new thread! I must say though, my first impression is this is going to be an easier build than the C-Arf P51!! I've made the commitment to use the 3w -110 inline twin as well - so, has anyone completed their spitfire recently?? I see some new photo's on C-arf's website.

G'day Peter,

Here are some pics of my engine install using the 3W 150 inline twin for my 1/4 scale Mustang. I know there are allot of opinions out there for the correct way to baffle especially for inline engines in relation to the rear cylinders. I haven't flown my machine yet although ground runs with both top and bottom engine cowls on are promising. At idle the front and rear cylinders using an Eagle Tree CHT probes under the spark plugs measures approx 135-140 deg F and at full power the front reads 190-200F and the rear 200-210F.
The problem I may have once flying is the pressurised air (ram air) surrounding the carbies.

Hi,

I'm building a P-51 Mustang 1/4 from Fiberclassics Kit do you think the 3W 140I R2 will fit on it...??
Is this a good engine....?? I could not find any information on the internet regarding this engine....??

I was going to use a DA85 on my P-51 now I'm wondering if I should change to the 3W 140 inline.

Any advice....??

I'm sorry, I don't know of the 3w 140, .. only the 110 and previously their 80cc inline twin. The C-Arf P -51 was designed for an 80 cc single engine, and personally I think the DA85 would be a better choice than a 140 size engine. (assuming you're able to get one fitted!) I had to make some severe modifications, and rebuild the firewall to install the 110, so I'm assuming the 140 inline twin will be a bigger head ache!. ZDZ have a 100cc inline twin that is physically smaller and lighter than the 3w .... But I only found that out after buying the 3w -110i ... take a look at the ZDZ as well.

Remember the C-arf P51 is not 1/4 scale - only 100" wingspan (22.5%) - 3w make a 1/4 scale composite plane with a 111 inch wingspan. so that 11% difference in size will relate to approx 15% more weight,drag etc etc ... see macka's installation.

i just get my spitfire from C_ARF. But i am waiting for the motor, a Kolm in line engine 4 stroke 100.

If it last too long to get this motor, i will put the DA 85.

I have had my CompArf Spit for over 2 years. Ihave everything I need to complete it. I finally unpacked it from it's box...so that is a start, correct? I'll be watching, and may start mine his summer.

It last a long time, but I just get my kolm 135.

I have to decide on wich plain, I will put this motor, either the spitfire or the mustang form Carf.

I am building the both at the same time.
