Default Has anybody built a Hostetler Bucker Jungmeister?

Hi

I purchased the plans from Wendell Hostetler for his 26.5% Bucker Jungmeister. Looking to build something somewhat larger then Garry Allens 1/4 Scale version. This seems to fit the bill. The 1/3 Scale Gary Allen version is pretty large for me but tempting.

Was wondering if anybody has experience with Wendells plan and can offer any suggestions as to :
1. Build suggestions.
2. Flying experience.
3. Engine type.
4. What would you change.

Appreciate any observations
Ray

Hello bunsen, in the early 80's I did my first build from plans and it was Wendell's Jungmeister, I can't remember having any problems with it, I used a converted muchulloch chainsaw for power; only problem was I took it to a local stacic show before I got to fly it (beware of people with large sums of money) need I say more.
I hope you keep us informed on your build as I think the Bucker Jungmeister is in a class of its own; I have the Platt and Gary Allen 1/4 plans and think Wendell's plans are just the right size for a small gasser or large glow. BTW, don't waste your money on the GA 1/4 plans....the web site says they are redrawen with correct wood sizes etc but they don't tell you they are incomplete ( to many things to list here)
Good luck with with your Jungmeister and let us know how its going.

P.S. I just talked to Wendell and my Jungeister plans are on the way...Hey...its winter...lets do it

I have a friend who is building one. He had to change the shape of the fin and some other things to make it more scale. He ordered some laser cut parts and his rudder etc were just slab sided. He got rid of those in favor of more scale shaped surfaces. The plane is a sports scale plane. I think Gary Allens is perhaps a better, more scale design. As for flying I can't say just yet but most Jungmesiters fly well.

I see this is an old thread. Are there any updates?

I'm thinking of building one from Hostetler plans.

Interesting
In the last few months I have found myself B'ARF'ed out and looking for kits and finding many links and threads to plans and partial laser cut kits.
Many offer unusual cool planes, not seen everyday at the field.

Have noticed more activity in kit and scratch build threads, maybe there will be a slow comeback in kits, maybe not.
Having good build experience over 2 decades really opens the door to new unexplored terrain and unusual planes available.
I appreciate these new posts of people starting or reviving build threads [8D]

Hi Darrolair

After looking at the 33% Gary Allen plans I decided to reduce the Gary Allen plans to 29%.  Purchased the Fiberglass Cowl and wheel pants for the 29% version.  You wind up having to "tweak" things like spars and rib cutouts a bit but no big deal.

It makes for an excellent plane that flys very well. I posted some pictures of it a while back in the 33% Gary Allen thread on RCU.  If I was doing it again I would build the 33% version but the 29% fits well in my van so I am happy with it.

I posted some pictures in the RCU :
Gary Allen 33% Bücker Jungmeister Thread in the Giant Scale Aircraft Forum

See post 751 and 820

Suggest that you poke thru the thread.  It is a great resource.

Cheers

ray

Bunsen,

Thanks for the info. I've looked through the 33% Gary Allen thread. There are some neat looking Buckers in there.
Also, there's some good information.
