Autonomous battling 1/16 Tiger
Maybe posted before but.....
Heres an interesting thing. I dont "battle" myself but this chap has built an entirely autonomous Heng Long Tiger that drives itself around, "seeks"out its target and attacks it using the airsfot gun.
Apart from being altogether very clever, it would be very interesting to see a few of these, modified to attack with IR, running around in competition with some human controlled tanks.

RE: Autonomous battling 1/16 Tiger
While I find most of these projects very unique and creative, I think making the gearbox a little more quiet is more important. I know it's lacking any "tank sounds" right now but that noise sends the cringe factor off the chart!
So, does this work on the same principle as those automatic floor cleaners/vacuums? I think it would be a good idea but after awhile all you would be doing is avoiding the aimed gun.

Well to be fair to the developer....I dont see any evidence that he gives a toss about rc battling in general, modelling accuracy or gear box noise.
He set out to develop an autonomous driving and shooting system within the parameters he set himself using that tank as a platform and he did it.
Im not sure Id agree that making the gearbox quiet is more important or interesting than taking the strides he's taken!

Hey guys listen... it's my opinion to make any comment on the subject and I have not over looked a thing. I did make a positive comment on the idea but in my eyes, every area need to be addressed.
So I don't care if it is the best looking or built just to show what it can do, the thing sounds like a garbage disposable running without using water. That might be okay in YOUR world but around here NO drivetrain noise is essential and all are built with that in mind.

Well I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Criticising the one aspect of a project (that no rc-tanker Ihave seenhas managed) when that aspect is of utterly no relevance or importance within the context of the project seems a bit .......stifling.
Using that logic, NASAwould have "failed" with the lunar lander because it didnt have furry dice in the window.
At any rate....concerned as you are with appearance or sound over technological advances, you might want to avert your eyes from this baby!!! Sweet!!!

Ihope that everyone emails these guys to tell them their months of development were entirely in vain as they forgot to rotate the pistol port or something'!!!!!

Using that logic, NASA would have ''failed'' with the lunar lander because it didnt have furry dice in the window.

OH, so don't make a comment unless it's positive huh? All I pointed out was that it was noisy and that should be corrected. It wasn't criticism but I guess in your world it is!

Thanks for the link!
Ihad been looking at this guy http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/vi....php?f=9&t=348 but doesnt seem to have gotten very for with his autonomous 1/24th.
This guy as well : http://blog.ianrenton.com/raspberry-...-for-autonomy/ has gotten a HLTiger using this system up and running via the web with streaming video from an onboard camera.
He has a video here: http://blog.ianrenton.com/raspberry-...ube-once-more/ of him running it from a custom ipad/tablet interface with video. Quite impressive.
Ireally wish Ihad listened moreat school.
Because guys like these are pushing the envelope when it comes to functions or control a lot more than the Tamiyas or Hen Longs.
One could see a day coming when your tank doesnt come with an rc control but rather a simple application that lets you control it from the wifi device of your choice....

RE: Autonomous battling 1/16 Tiger
When Clark announced his fpv/app controlled system on the uk forum the response was fairly lukewarm. Seems a lot of folks don't want to dispose of the traditional control systems. It's a shame because the possibilities of using a tablet/smart phone to provide both control and fpv feedback could be a real step change in our hobby!

RE: Autonomous battling 1/16 Tiger
I suppose thats the way of it...... maybe there is some kind of "mine is bigger than yours" mindset when it comes to groups of men holding large boxes at crotch level with giant rods poking skywards and their hands fiddling feverishly with knobs that just isnt replicated with an iphone....
Autonomous systems though must have some kind of role in expanding the "battlefield"experience (not that Iam overly familiar with it)?
Functions such as static anti-tank weapons must be reasonably boring to play for a human but would be ideal for autonomous systems?Simple even in that all they need are the turret functions of the tank plus the seek-target-shoot ability that we know is now possible/practicable.
Opening the door to large scale cooperative efforts? as in 10 or 15 "human"tanks trying to penetrate a rangeddefenceof camoflaged, autonomous anti-tank guns?
At any rate....there is a well known graph of the uptake of new things - once the tide of innovation has passed, its the bits and pieces that remain around on the beach after that are adopted to the fullest.

I would love to get a hold of a control circuit like that!
Then I could just drive and let the tank find and shoot targets
Automatic fire control at its best...
