Will make another couple pics once I have the clear on and
then post a vid or flight report on the maiden probably mid to end of March.
No matter if it's the good, the bad or the ugly.
At present were in the deep freeze -28c + 24km/h winds = -42c wind chill factored. Yikes!
My Jetta TDi don't like that very much and the block heater is like an old Glade commercial - "Plug it in, Plug it in".

Andreas, if you are referring to the ESM 50cc Spitfire; knowing the problems I have encountered trying to assemble the ESM 50cc Spitfire (a complete nightmare for me), I would go with a Comp-ARF Spitfire. I have read very few negative comments concerning the Comp-ARF.

Hi Roger,
I should have been more clear in the size of airplane, because the Comp-ARF is the 50cc
and the ESM I was thinking of is more in the line of the 36cc which is just a little bit bigger (7.25" wingspan more) than my
present Hangar 9 Spit.
Now the Comp-ARF at 2.58m wingspan is one of my dreams, that I would like to realize
pending the sale of a couple of my musical keyboards to fund the project.
= serious investment!
Otherwise it will be the ESM 72.5" Spitfire which will be more to the liking of my finance ministers budget.

Thank you for the heads up on the ESM 50cc Spitfire assembly problems.

Sorry I forgot to give you the weight. Mine weighs 15 lbs. 6 ozs. ready to fly. It is balanced at 107 mm wheels up. I also made a slightly more scale tailwheel in a more scale position on the plane. I don't think this had a major influence on altering the tail weight. Hope this helps.

Anybody that knows me on these forums KNOWS I predominantly fly Luftwaffe planes....almost to exclusion. However, I do have two Spitfires of decent size.

The first two pics show my Kyosho 90 size Spitfire MKII, but in captured German colors. It has a saito 125 with 15x8

The pics after that depict a modified Hangar 9 60 size that's been painted, altered a bit to more resemble an MKIX with the two large underwing radiators, etc. and include a scale small air inlet on the top right of the forward fuse. Additonally, it has later mark exhaust stacks for a merlin instead of the 3 collector piece per side manifolds of the early marks.
If you notice, it has a battery hatch on top. I have yet to put the wheel pants on. Power is from a turnigy g60 400kv motor on 6s 8000mah turning a 16x10

Quikturn, I’ve done that mode for the Platt 65in ws Focke Wulf, its actually quite simple. On the FW there was a TE spar that was right were the hinges to the wing had to go. This spar was balsa and fit into a notch in the bottom of the rib this notch was half the thickness of the rib at that point. So you lay the spar out on the plans then use them to mark the notches in the ribs. Once all the notches are in make a 1/64 ply doubler that is 6in long for each rib involved. When its time to sheet the wing sheet the last 4 in of the top of the wing from ailerons in with ply. Its more work but I believe the sheeting is 3/32 so I bond 1/64 play to 1/16 balsa and bond it to the wing with the balsa out. Makes final sanding a bunch easier.

I know, I know 1/64 ply +1/16 balsa does not = 3/32. Use epoxy to make the bond between the two and the thickness will be perfect.

It will not be long before we hut the 200 member mark!!!
So how is your TF Spit's build going??? Hope to get back in the shop tomorrow and start the glass work!! That bad flu bug had me down for some time.[&o][&o] I have been looking at the EMS 72" Spit for my next winter build and looking at dropping a DLE 55RA in the nose!! Question to you and the Brotherhood, will that be a overkill??? Now I do have a DLE 20cc new in box, that I can use, but something tell me the plane will be under-power!! Like I said before, this will be next winter build, so I will have time to get everything in the shop for the build!!

Just to add pics, here are a couple of my WM Spit - wing rivets over Monokote detail, and a fun pic at the flying field a couple weeks ago. Gotta love that SoCal weather. I just recieved my Top Flite Spitfire wing fillets and will be adding them to this bird soon. I may spring for a p51 canopy to replace that non-scale stock one.

I am unsure how the 55 will fit without a lot of cowl cutting. The DLE 30 may be a better choice and save some cowling. Maybe someone will provide some insight to the fit and how much if any weight was added to the nose. Also the power requirements from others whom have done it would be nice too.

I now have the Spitfire at home for covering.

I have one, but no flaps installed. It was put together for brother 1.5 with fixed gear and no flaps for a tail wheel warbird introduction plane.

I would say since the Spit uses split flaps you could mod the lower wing area for them. If scale looks are not an issue, you could beef up the lower wing structure, and add an in-set trailing edge, then add the hinged solid lower skin split flap.

If needed, use the steps from the top flight wing and adjust for your needs.

The 55 would be good for nose weight but there will be a lot hanging out the bottom. If you go with the 55 I agree with the 55 RA so that you will not have the muffler coming around the side of the engine. Depending on the prop you decide to use, prop clearance may be a problem when the tail wheel lifts.

If you put a 55 in this Spit, PLEASE, PLEASE promise us you will get video of the maiden...it should be exciting.

I just left the troy-build website and found some very good info on a engine that fit the EMS 72" Spit!! It is a PTE 36cc RA, that will fit into the cowling without a lot of cutting. I want to keep the engine as much as I can inside the cowling. Plus they say that the PTE 36cc has a little more power than the DLE 30cc!! I think the DLE 55RA would be a over kill for this bird. In my younger days, I would do this mod at the drop of a hat!! But as you get older, you become wise!!!
So I am going with the EMS 72" Spitfire and a PTE 36cc RA engine for power. I will let some of the younger brothers do this. Thank you so very much for your input!! Now to do some reading and find out why other people who has this plane did not use the stock hardware!!

Oh Boy...I can help you with the stock hardware. Gently but swiftly open the hardware bags and dump them directly into the nearest garbage recepticle. The push rods are covered with a disgusting oil (don't even open that bag!) The rods must be a high carbon content which makes them rust at 12% humidity. They are also very brittle and heavy. Most if not all of the hardware will be metric, not bad unless you want to use some DuBro stuff you have collected over the years. I usually have 80% of what I need laying around in storage containers ready for the latest Chinese ARF. The wire for the tail wheel was big on my first Spitfire and they made it even larger and heavier in the second kit I purchased. As a result I bought a DuBro tail wheel kit and bashed it to look like a scale Spit tail gear. This is a great plane and I know you will enjoy the plane. I'm just kidding about the hardware (except the rods...throw those out), you will be able to selectively use some of it. Have fun...we'll be here to help if necessary!

im running a rcgf 26cc and it flys fine , been going for 4 years with out any problems.
still looking for a canopy to fit my wm 80" spity
if any body knows of any that would suit. that i may be able to get sent down to oz .
