actually not... T55 is a different one...
T55 is a development of T54 and T54 (that was built in January 1945) was a futher improvement of T44 (1943 creation)...

As an option we have here soviet toys that can be converted to T44...

here is an example

and after some "improvements"

this lower hull + upper one could be used for T44, but you will need rebuild the turret...

and after

Please get me right... the pictures that I have put are for my T54B, but the lower hul and upper cover is 100% applicable to T44 too...
Actually I am thinkuing also to build T44 in future... it was excellent new tank, with fantastic low profile to hit...

A recent issue of Finescale Modeler had an article about making one in 1/35 scale. The more I looked at it; the more I wanted to try it with a WSN T-34. And then, I saw this build on another forum and decided that it really COULD be done pretty easily. http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forum...hp?f=23&t=3708

The only real question I have is with the gap between the roadwheels. The T-34 has it between the second and third, and nearly all of the references I've found say that for the T-44 it is between the first and second. The WSN hull is pretty flimsy already, so cutting it into three pieces and then gluing it back together seem like it would be even flimsier.

Just use a WSN t-34 for roadwheels and accessories, a hooben t-55 for the hull, and either the t-34's turret or a kv-85 turret. I found in testing though that the wsn tracks require ludicrous tension to prevent slippage on the drive sprocket, which I detest, so I prefer a mix of the older roadwheels and the t-55's tracks like on this semi modernized t-44:

Hal I remember well when the T-44 came out. It had more of a fear factor than the ill fated JS-III bacause it was so much smaller and faster than the T-34s that we were facing and had such sleek lines. I always liked it but it was replaced quickly by the newer T-54-55s.
It would be a cool model to have.

Exactly, they were replaced because T54 made in 1945 had some advantages... That is why they decided to concentrate on T54 prototype.
Thanks for sharing this is awesome... I also attach the couple of pictures of T54 for you to compare. I am just thinking of switching from my T54B to T54 (1945)...

Thanks Hal, I think the early T-54 had better features over the later cramped dome turret. I think the turret crew would be so much more effective in the earlier T-34 design turret where they were not bent over with no where to move. I've driven a T-55, been in T-62 and T-72, and they are just too cramped in the turrets. Plus on an incline, the dome turrets are poorly designed for balance and manual traverse uphill , especially with the 125mm gun, is really tough. The driver in a 55 or 62/64 has plenty of room and they drive nicely, but that "user unfriendly" dome turret kills the effectiveness of the crew. I like that earlier model.

Ok guys, a little Update from me

I just have got an T-44 lower Hull for approximately 40€

and from a friend in another forum i have ordered the WSN T-34 Road Wheels and an T-34/85 Turret

But i think i have to do the upper hull by scratching because i think its simple and ther Orginal T-55 is not really the same as the T-44

does Anyone of you has Blue prints with dimensions etc. for the upper?

Best regards

Frank

In the build link I posted above, the builder used the 1/35th scale plans on page 80 in George Bradford's book: Russian Armored Fighting Vehicles. If you scale the plans up 218%, you'll have 1/16th drawings to copy in plastic.

Hi Frank, here is a site with photos of the T55 engine deck and details.

http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?...=167910&page=1

I have attached drawings of it as well. If you look at the drawings I think you will see that maybe the Hooben T55 could be converted.
I have looked at them booth and it seems they are similar.

Here is more T44 information. Try this site for some good color detail drawings and I have attached some better T44 line drawings as well.

Oh, hot damn Hal... that T-44 is awesome! Much better looking than a T-34/85.

But not better than a T-54/55.

It'll be interesting to see a build thread here.

Hal, that's a great looking tank and seems to drive well too. Like that much better than the T-55s. Thanks for sharing.
