Anthony, that's exactly what it is ! how did you know that ?
I work in the aerospace industry and where I work we supplied 93 front fan modules to GE for the F110-132 upgrade. Boosted the thrust by 5,000 pounds. All the engines went to the UAE(United Arab Emerates) The US didn't want to spend the $$$$ to boost up their F-15 and F-16's. We actually have to manufatcure 5 spare models within the next year. Not looking forward to it.
Later!!

The aluminum panels are made. I made them 1/8'' oversize so that when the screws come in and I can screw them in place, I can trim them to fit best.
Hi Robert,

Very nice work on the Pitts. I've been following along and am very impressed. I have bought the plans so will be a future project when i'm not so busy.
I fly pattern so practise, practise, practise at the moment getting ready for the Australian masters and nationals coming up.
Did you use litho plate for the aluminium panels?

That would be correct drac, lithoplate. If you have the plans make two very viewable notes on it. One is do not, I repeat "do not", glue the strut mount ribs. Put them in but do not glue untill you have built and fitted the struts. Second, take extra measurements as to the placement of the engine.
I did not see the "do not glue" on the strut ribs, what a pain afterwards fixin. And I was and am meticulous, but the engine measurements did not work out. Even after done the measurements on paper do not  match actual mount. I think, I know, the pages are different in size.

Anyway, just triple check everything.

Don't get me wrong the plans are great, very detailed. And very scale but, I assume, over the years the pages have gotten off from one another.

Good advice Robert, i always double, triple or quadruple check when building. Especially my pattern ships.

My job as a first class machinist is the same where 1/4 of a thou (0.00025") makes a big difference. It's ingrained now.

I've heard of that happening with plans for left/right wings that were different sizes (off as much as 1/4") as well. Good tips Robert.

I hate waiting but must not hate it too much or I would order sooner. But then one would have to know ahead of time what needs ordered. Anyhow. The flexible exhaust pipe came so here it is. These are very bendableand super light. Good stuff!
And the 0 x 3/8 screws came so tomorrow I can get the aluminum panels fastened to the frame.

So how did you attach the flexible pipe to the mufflers? And what about to the firewall?

I will use high temp silicon and a clamp at the muffler. And will make a brass standoff to hold the outlet end 1/4" off the firewall.

Looks good Robert,
Much easier than trying to mock up and custom weld an exhaust.

Robert,

One more question if I may on your build table.

I went to a steel supply and they had all types of steel.

Cold rolled
galvanized
403 magnetic stainless 16 gauge$3.80 a pound 4x8 (ouch pricey)
And another type cant recall.

I am thinking 16 gauge is perfect, but how do you stop rust if it aint stainles. (cups spills etc)

What type steel is on your table and what gauge, and if not stainless do you have rust issues.(pics of your table look pristeen)

Thanks,

Kevin

My table top is 16g galvanized. And you would be correct in it's appearance, nothing at all on it. Galvanized will take forever to rust unless you put water on it and leave it there, then maybe it will rust in a year or two.

After watching you on this build, I picked up a set of these plans. Thanks for the detailed tutorial. Are you adding a smoke system ?

Thank's Dennis.
I have one but I am going to wait and see what the weight comes out to. Would really like to keep it light. I know how one at 28lbs flies and want to keep it between 22-24lbs.

The bottom ailerons are done, almost. Waiting on epoxy so I can finish sand and add control horn. So while waiting I started on the fuse panels and thought I would show a little.

How I do it. I cut a strip of 1/16 ply, then measure and mark upfor the screw holes and drill them out. In this case the screws are 1" apart with the first one on the strip at 1/4 from the end. Thats how they measure out from the plans. Then I tape the strip in place, triple check. Then drill the holes.
I started on the Pitts with #0-3/8 but the head size just looked to small to me. So I went with a #2 screw, it is a little larger than scale but looks better to me.

And the right side. Now to remove all of them and drill the screw hole one size larger in the aluminum.

Those panels will really set it apart from the rest of the monocote covered models. This is one of the reasons I like these so much. Are you going to cut the cowl so it can open?

Your going to have to give a few details on the cowl Brian. I did not know the cowl opened.

Hi Robert, Question time... The aluminum you are using is referred to as litho plate? I am not familiar. I assume it is different than thin flashing from Home Depot. It looks fantastic, where do you get it ?
