RE: TF FW190 GIANT ARF
Found out yesterday that because of the size, my Butcher Bird will be coming via triuck to the LHS, not by UPS.
It will be delayed a few days, but saving $84 on the shipping will be worth it.
The TW retract will be here today so I will probaly go over & pick it up tis evening.
BTW: Anyone that has already purchased the mechanical retract that wants to upgrade it for use W/the electric mains & control board, [link=http://www.robart.com/products/retractable-tailwheel-electric-conversion-actuator]electric actuator[/link] is available seperately.
All you need to do is mount it where the servo would be located & use the same pushrod set-up..

Nice but my question is can you stop it part way up so its scale?
I have the Mechanical Retract and the electric actuator would take the place of a servo.

The control board monitors the current drawn by the actuator and when it gets to a "stopping point, it shuts off the actuator.
You can put a mechanical stop to have the tail wheel only retract as far as it should go "scale-like" and the board with stop the actuator from going any further.

I'm glad somebody brought that up as I hadn't even thought of that.
I just got off the phone, the TW is in, but no tracking on the truck that has my Butcher Bird yet.

Nope. You can cycle the main gears and stop one with your hand at any point in the cycle and it will sense an increase in current.
It will then stop and stay tat that position, drawing zero current, until the controller senses a change in the transmitter signal, i. e. changing the retract switch to the other direction.
The tail wheel uses the same citcuitry and actuator and works the same way.

I'm going to run over later & P/U the TW retract.
I'll dismantle it & take some PIX of the actuator.
I'll post them later tonight.

Thanks Pettit!! That's what I wanted to know. Now I will decide on actuator or servo. Actuator would be easy to set up with the mains.
My DLE 55RA is on back order till Feb. On the 55RA sight they say they are having problems with muffler coming apart.
Maybe I should change to the OS 60 or Dle60 twin even if the plug boots show?
Tower sent me an E-Mail asking if I wanted to change the engine.

I picked up the electric TW retract & as I suspected it is noting more than a screw jack riveted to the frame of the mechanical TW utilizing the same link point as the serevo/pusrod..
I'll get some PIX up later.

I would rather have 7# of 4-stroke radial up front for ballast than lead.
