OK, I have a good question for you all. I have a stock Kadet Senior - still three channel - )S Max .46 LA. It's a blast to fly, but it seems like it might be even better with a flat wing and ailerons??
Should I order another wing kit (I don't enjoy cutting parts) and do it? Or is it better left stock??

RE: ~~Sig Kadet Brotherhood~~.
Nergall, I cut the dihedral in half and added ailerons to my Seniorita kit. It still handles nicely with elevator and rudder, but the ailerons give it more capability. This plane will do rolling circles, side slips, etc. now. I'm presently adding ailerons to my Senior kit; it takes a little more planning, but I think it's worth the effort. Whether you order a wing kit or just cut out pieces, you will still need to modify the plans and cut out the modified pieces. I recommend using two aileron servos.

Totally different plane with the ailerons. I think stock is 6 inches of diehedral? I took mine to 2 inches with the barn door ailerons. I just cut my wing in half with a bandsaw and glue in some ribs and epoxied it back together then glassed. Cutting in the ailerons takes some patience and planning.

RE: ~~Sig Kadet Brotherhood~~.
I'd like to be part of this brotherhood too! I have a Sig Senior Kadet ARF that I am flying now, but I think I have paid my dues because I have built a Sig Kadet Senior from a kit, as well as a LT-25 and an LT-40. I also have LT-25, LT-40, and Seniorita kits I hope to get to soon. Right now the Senior is running a Thundertiger .46 pro, but I saw an article in this months AMA magazine about the Senior ARF with an Eflite .32. I happen to have one of those and am tempted to convert over to electric and maybe even to a taildragger.

RE: ~~Sig Kadet Brotherhood~~.
Hi Gary,
When you get up to #68 would you just put me in? I have a Kadet Senior built from a kit with a cradle for a 2 meter glider on top of the wing. It is overweight and has a Saito 80 for power. I have a Kadet Senior arf tail dragger with a Saito 62 that flies really nice. I have a Kadet Mark II with a Super Tigre 40, and am building a LT 40 tail dragger now. It is being covered with Koverall & dope(even has pinking strips on the wing ribs & tips to cover up a sanding oops),and will have a magnum 52 4s(12.25 X 3.75 MAS prop) for power. I also have another Kadet Senior and a wing kit to build so that I can fly 3 channel or 4 channel with ailerons and reduced dihedral (Saito 56? if Isand it really good). Thanks for taking on this endeavor. I think your numbers will go above your expectations eventually. I was in a place called Hobby People in Chattanooga TN a few weeks ago and saw the Sig Kadet Senior $84.00 and Kadet Mark II $77.00 kits on the shelf. It's been years since I have seen Sig kits for sale in a hobby shop. I like Sig Kits.

Three to four bays would probably work well. On most Kadets, strip ailerons are used due to being designed that way by Sig or for ease of building the wing. On my Jr, I'm adding barn door ailerons that are three bays wide and 25% of chord deep. I also added one bay to each wing to lower the wing loading to carry the weight of floats later

I still have a Cadet that is over 30yrs old. Never been crashed and I know fly it off the water with Gee Bee floats. It has the original OS 40 up front but that engine is getting real tired. Still starts on the first flip.

RE: ~~Sig Kadet Brotherhood~~.
Because of this Thread I am now going to fly mine again since it's last flight in 2009, so today I dusted it off and checked the radio. I didn't mention in my earlier post that I flew it at night some in the early 90's. I saw another post above of lights as well. The photos show small wingtip lights that are on the top and bottom (red and green) and landing lights in the leading edge. You might can also see the white light on top of the vertical fin. The landing lights were turned on by a micro switch on the engine servo. Cut the power and you had a lot more light. They were very useful on approach and for the flare to touchdown.
For me the darker the night, the better. Flying with the moon out was kind of like looking in the sun. I also liked it best with 4 candles (in glass jars on paved runway) burning at the sides of the runway on each end. We tried more, but the glare bothered me. The Kadet made a very stable platform for this. But age changes things and the lights are disconnected for now.

RE: ~~Sig Kadet Brotherhood~~.
My Brothers,
My father is building a set of great planes 60 size floats for our still in the box Kadet arf which we will start assembling week after next. I am going to use the same engine that I had in my first Kadet arf which is a O.S. 91 surpass 1. How dose one determine where to mount the floats? I was planing to take a spare nose gear shorten it and have the flexible push rod go down to the water rudder. Dose this make sense?

RE: ~~Sig Kadet Brotherhood~~.
When I installed the lights on mine, I had found a couple of different schematics online, one with just landing lights, wingtip and strobe, and another with the rotating beacon.. I took both schematics and using EagleCad, combined both designs into one board. I made the board (this was my first attempt at this) and for the most part it worked! I cant seem to get the rotating beacon part of it operating for some reason, although the traces seem correct. The landing lights are controlled by throttle position, as the throttle connections run through the board. I havent had the nerve to fly completely dark, but I have at dusk and it looks really cool.. Id love to get that rotating beacon working someday...

RE: ~~Sig Kadet Brotherhood~~.
I've been doing night flying "missions" for almost 20 years with trainers primarily, because they are stable and predictable. As with most flying, recognizing orientation is key, so start off with enough lights to be able to quickly recognize left, right, top and bottom of your plane. As you gain experience, you can be more creative with your lighting schemes. Sometimes I switch off all my lights except my red/green wingtip nav lights and tail strobe light, then do a couple of loops and rolls just to push the envelope a bit. Night flying is a whole new dimension in R/C flying and there is no better plane to start with than the Kadets.
