Highlands County Pattern; Sebring, FL
New contest for 2013. Highlands County Pattern Classic sponsored by Highlands R/C Club, Inc. in Sebring, FL. Dates will be Feb. 16th and 17th and this will be the second contest in D3 for 2013. Lunch will be provided for Saturday and the registration fee will be 30.00. Camping is permitted at this site but there are no hook ups available, but there will be electricity available in the pit area for charging batteries. This is a nice facility and I look forward to seeing everyone again.
Thanks

I don't have the new event calender set up yet on the D3 site. I will get that going in early December but in the meantime go to http://www.nsrca.us/ and hit the event calendar and you will see the contest. Click on the event and it will open up and you will see the pilot registration and really everything you will need to get to the field. Please if there are any questions post or call.

Hey Guys,
For those with campers traveling down I-75 coming to the Sebring contest, here's a suggestion on how to come.
I-75 south to exit 220, go east on Hwy 64 to US Hwy 17 south (right), go 1/2 mile south to State Hwy 66 east to the intersection of US Hwy 27. Cross over US 27 on to US 98 south for 10.4 miles and turn left onto Arbuckle Creek Rd. Follow Arbuckle Creek Rd for 1.2 miles to a 3 way intersection and turn left, continue on Arbuckle Creek Rd. 4.5 miles and the Highlands County Landfill on the right. Follow the main road into the landfill past the guard shack to the first right, turn right the field is a 1/4 mile on left.

Just did a little searching for hotels in the Sebring, FL area and the cheapest thing I could find is through Hotwire. Just north of Sebring was the Econolodge at 62.00 per night and in downtown east Sebring was the Kenilworth Lodge at 91.00 per night. I'm going to keep looking and see if I can find some more reasonable rates at other hotels.

At least the sun will be out so we can keep our battery packs warm! Remember Ocala a few years back.......the March frost? Flying with gloves? I recall having a devil of a time getting my YS to fire that morning and keeping frost from accumulating on the wings. Some pilots had trouble concentrating. We endured!

That's right. And nobody won.
Just to fill in the blanks, on Friday before the contest John collided with a white scavenger bird from the landfill. John was flying a bit deep into the box and a flock drifted south into his flight path. Nothing was left of the bird and only some bloody empennage parts survived.

I would like to say that the weather man left out a important detail on Saturday's forecast. " hurricane force winds to be expected" would have been nice.

Tough conditions. Yeah, it was a tad windy but right down the runway. Imagine if it were a 20 - 30 mph crosswind with that short narrow runway!!! Sunday morning at Inn on the Lakes was 38 degrees and 10 - 15 mph out of the north. Wise decision to end the contest Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Larry and Terry and the folks at Highlands County for all your hard work. I really enjoyed myself.
