Default Lithium Ion Pack @ 7.8 Fully Charged

Hi Y'all, charged a Li-ion pack and it showed fully charged on a balance charge at 7.8Volts on my hitec x4. I thought that 8.4 was fully charged. Is this pack blown? Appreciate any help you can provide.

Oh forgot to mention another pack on balance charge is showing 8.2 with no increase in charge for alost an hour now.  Problems or is this ok.  I have a tester that can put a 1 to 3 amp load on it.  Should I load test it at 1 amp and see how long I get on them?  How can safely determine these packs are over the hill?

Depending upon the termination voltage. Usually a Li-ion is 4.1 volts/cell when full.

Charge your lithium Ion on the lipo charge set. It should charge to 8.4 volts. Charge the 7.8 volt battery without the balance tap. Just charge through the JR lead and see what you get. Worth the try as 7.8 is unacceptable.

I like to toss out all the labels and use the top voltage for description for this very reason. Many li-ions do use 4.2. For the OP just use the voltage termination that the battery calls for and it is the same as "full"

If you thought it was 8.4 then you were probably right and I can't imagine any charger using a "full" label on the 4.2 per cell setting. Chances are good that it terminated the charge for a different reason and the pack isn't "full"

Coincidentally there may be some that use 3.6,3.7 or perhaps even 3.9 as "full" Could you have used the LIFE setting by mistake?

Obviously one of them is wrong, which one do you trust? Of all the voltmeters and chargers I have I'd say it is a toss-up so I have to check them all.

Chargers can degrade over time. Call Hitec and get an estimate  on recalibration. Is it out of warranty? Worth a try.

And we should all keep in mind that what is usually referred to as LI-ion is 4.1 fully charged, Lipoly is 4.2 fully charged, LIFE is about 7.25 fully charged and quickly moves to under 7.
So I assume we were talking about Lipoly?
