Hi all.

I got thesmoke pump working.

If you buy the jet legends one, which is great value, (with everything you need including tanks). It comes with 3 wires off the back of the pump. 1 red + 1 black - in 1 plug and and 1 white signal in another.
If you haveapower boxthen no problem, just putthe the white into the channel you will switch the pump on with, the other plug with the red and black into any spare port. That will then draw off the rx packs...(about1/2amp draw)
If like me you have a standard rx and are using a seperate switch and battery pack for the pump, then you split the black wire, solder in another black wire with a servos pin on the end, and fit this into the plug with the white wire.
Now you have 2 plugs, 1 with a red and black, the other with a white and black.
The white/black goes into the rx on wharever channel you are using.
The red/black plug goes through a switch to a seperate battery.
All working great now, which ever system you use.

Thanks. I have used the 2 smoke tanks at the rear as main fuel tanks and 1 at the front.

The other front tank is being used for smoke.

This seemed to give the best layout and less c of g change.

When ever you guys defuel your jet, does your main tank make alot of noise as if it being cruched a bit? I turned down my fueler quite a bit to a lower rate. Trying to determine if I have a vent issue or not. I also noticed the UAT collapses while defueling. Just curioius if you experience this noise with the stock tank.

Hi essyou35

I used the stock tanks for quite sometime in both series and parallel with no problems
There very strong stiff tanks, and so far have not heard any creaking wile defueling?
I think you probhave a flow issue, if its not the vent it might be a crushed fuel line or evan a burr on a copper pipe or clunk.

I hope you resolve it soon.

Regards Mark V

Ok thanks I'll troubleshoot it. Sometimes though those plastic tanks dont hold shape well so thought I would ask. The dubro tanks I have hold shape well.

I bet I have a lip in the copper I cut with a pipe cutter.

Check the vent / breahter lines inside the main tanks are not to close to the top of the tank and not right in the middle either. If they are they could be sucking the top of the tank in slightly fouling the lines

Holy crap guys somethings up with my viper. I thought I read in this thread things can go as far back as the turbine bay. This is far from the truth on mine. See my pics of my install, but I made a mounting board above the main tank. With UAT full, a 3s 3800 LIFE and a 2s 3300 lipo in the nose, my CG is way tail heavy. I am sitting at 77mm behind the center of the spar. This puts me about in the middle of the wheel well or so. What the heck! This is even with the front gear down.

No idea how I can fix this there is not enough room up front for all my valves. I need about an lb of weight in the nose at least. Wonder if my pipe is heavier for some reason?

Wow that's really odd. Mine balanced at 35mm back from centre spar and I needed my ecu pack in the turbine bay. My header is also there. I know this is a really Silly question but your rear fuel tanks are empty,

Yes, rear and front tank empty, just UAT full. Any ideas why mine is so tail heavy?

Oh something to mention, I am missing servos in 1 wing, the other wing has them. But I could not see them affecting CG much given the location, or is that it?

I think I may be able to answer that - the first few Vipers were pre-ballasted, that is they had some weight in the nose already fitted by the factory. This means that users had to move everything back to compensate. The CG still should be set at the 35mm figure but you'll have to move your packs around.

Jeremy, are you saying you do have weight in the nose by the factory?

Also my packs are in the nose. I need 1lb to balance it.

I`m not a fan of the plastic tanks and also just wanted a single tank.Contacted Gary at Jet Tech in the States and after giving him some measurements made me this tank.Holds 2.62litres and is 150grams lighter than the stock tanks and fits nice and easy.Starting my build next week.

Hi
Flew the viper for the first time today.
Just so good to fly, no vices at all. Powered by a Jet Legends T12, well over poweredreally.....
2 clicks of aileron was all that was needed. It felt so good that after 3 circuits i was in for a low pass :-)
First landing was smooth and right in front of us.

Cof g 20mm behind centre of spar felt a little nose heavy when inverted.

Elevator20mm 30% expo reduced to 20% after first flight.

Flaps 20mm take off plus 3mm down elevator, 50mm landing with 5mm down and 6 mm crow.

Aileron 20mm plus 30% expo

Rudder as much as i could get plus 25% expo.

Had a fuel problem on the second flight and the turbine was very slow to respond (shut down).
Second landing was fast with a small bounce, but very controlable.

Hi essyou35

I'm unfortunately on my second Viper as my DX18 killed the first one along with two other airframes!
My first Viper with ballast built in caused me to have to relocate items after my initial install eventually going from 0mm back to eventually 40+mm back on the CG

The second one "with out factory nose weight"has a T12 in it weighing1500g, 200g heaver than your K100 so should be more inclied to betailheavy than your set up?
Ihavea single JR8511 on elevator and a JR8421 on the rudder, theres not much else behind the CG thats not factory std
All I have "or need"up front is two 2200 Rx lipos and a 3900 ECU lipo andmy CG with gear down and UAT fullworks out at 38mm back from the wing tube "centre"

Its hard to understand why you need any weight at all is to achieve the correct CG?, you have a nice tidy install and I don't see anything out of the ordinary.
I hope you don't end up with or need 16oz up front! the factory originally only fitted 9oz of ballast in the Vipers which is not really a lot in a 20lb+ airframe.

As the Vipers flight envelope has been explored and expanded then its tolerance for a wide range of CG found, I Guss they felt this ballast was no longer needed.
Its a lot easier to add weight to the nose than it was to remove it but I'm sure if you explore your options you will not have to add quite as much as you think.

Here is a pic of the nose weight from my "late" Red-white Viper for your ref, Its all thats left except for a slightly scrached tailplane

Hi, am interested in your dx18 with the brake down elevator mix and rudder elevator knife edge mix. Would appreciate of you can post your dx18 spm file. Thanks.

Mark, thanks for confirming I am missing nose weight, that now makes sense. Ill add another 2s lipo rx pack at 7oz and that may only mean I need a few more oz of lead.

I used the futaba s3051 servo on the rudder and the hitech 7994sh sevor on the tail, along with metal turnbuckles on both.

I think we are on par I just was confused as I did not realize some had nose weight.

Thx for the compliment on the install I did not tidy it up for the pic as thats not my thing, just trying to show the layout. Thanks for the info.

"I'm unfortunately on my second Viper as my DX18 killed the first one along with two other airframes!"

Am curious to know how your DX18 contributed... Will tell you why. I stopped using my DX18 around December 2012 after i lost my Carbon Z Yak54. I noticed a glitch when the model just dropped out of control while i was on a roll. Fixed minor damage and came back a couple of days to fly with my buddy who also uses a DX18. On this fatal crash day, I flew the Carbon Z usng the DX18 while my buddy flew a PA Katana. We both were setting up for a a harrier when both aircrafts dropped off the sky at the same time and crashed. I lost the fuselage and motor while his survived with some scratches. I strongly felt the DX18s might have contributed. I returned back to my JR12 and Dx8 and no issues and glitches on any of my models. I am just returning back to trying the DX18 again. Kindly advice if you also notice issues like this with teh DX18. Haven't flown my Viper for a while and wanted to move it to the DX18.
