RE: Andy Sheber Pitts s1s
Hi Ace,
I've been following your thread closely as I am in the process of building a Sheber S1S myself (although I'm a lot slower than you are...)
Yours looks great so far.
One question: Are you not going to sheet the turtle deck? My plans call out for it to be sheeted with 3/32 balsa...

I just got a package in the mail. It's the Polylite from Aircraft Spruce. And now I can say, "There is absolutely no comparison to Koveral in the tighness of the weave. I don't think filling the weave will be an issue at all, unlike Koveral. Sweet!

Here's an attempt at an example of difference, in the pics the Koveral is on the right and Polylite is on the left. First two are with a small light at 4 feet. Second is a brighter shop light at 4 feet.

Ace, is there much weight dif between the two?
And what about cost dif ?
Just a thought, the material to fill the Koveral might actualy increase weight in the end.

Kevin the Koveral weigh's 1.25oz per sq yd and cost $8.20 for 67"x53" piece pre packaged. The Polylite is 1.87 oz per sq yd. at $8.40 per linear yd / width of 72" So $8 something versus $40 something. And you may be right about weight gain in the end. After I paint this Pitts I will see how much difference between it and my Waco, which has the same dimensions and shape. It should be good for weight gain comparison. I weigh everything before covering and paint just for my own curiousity.

The wheel pants have been sanded and are ready for primer. Now the cowl I have a bit of an issue with. Besides the spider lines at what appears to be mount points of the original cowl used to mold this one with there seems there is one other kinda major problem. In regard to the imitation panel lines the one on the left is by far incorrect. It should be a panel lap from the top down over the side. But this one is split from rear to front. At the rear of the cowl the line is correct but about a 1/3 of the way forward it reverses. So I am going to have to sand this line totally off and replace it. I'm thinking I can lay up 3-4 layers of tape ( for debth) and use resin to refill the line. Any ideas on this matter is welcome.

Well Robert, he looks pretty gay... uh... that is to say, happy, the truest since of the word.
wayne d said it though, WOW! That's a high price!(Glad I was sitting down!)Where'd you dig up that kind of money, or did you get one of those coupon codes? I've got to know your secret. But that should look really good sitting in that Pitts!

Well I, being my cheap asz self, am getting the figure with the patterns for the cloth's. And will make the cloth's and paint him myself. Much cheaper that way. I was told $150 if I do all the work.

What is P-38 John?
As for the pilots, I don't mind $150 and doing the finish work myself. But if the finished figures are as much as Wayne says, I believe I would go with that fella in Germany that makes them to your specs and fascial photo.

Remember that bigunsightly box hanging out of the bottom of my cowl? It's gone!!!
I'll give it a couple hours to stiffen up and put the finish coat on the outside.

How course is the thread count on the polyspan? I like the thread on the Koverall just not the inconsistancy of the weave. Uncertified 1.7 oz is about $4 a yard at Arcraft Spruce.

I don't know the thread count. Aircraftspruce's Polylite is 1.87oz at $8.40 per linear yard at 72 inches wide. I only needed 4yd's, actually 3 but bought 4 just in case.
