wow the vibration is off the charts

I tried to do the maiden on mine today and could not get it to start there was no spark I ran it last weekend for a little bit on the ground and it started right up and ran real good has anyone had any trouble with the spark plug or the ignition???

yea i had the same problem,but i think i was flooding mine and i thought the plug quit...after it dried it was fine..don't know if this was the same situation,pull your fuel to the carb and don't choke it.i was used to glow and would choke it and flood it....

Evo is go - the results:

12*7 APC prop at 7M - 83dBa - lots of pull, capable of accelerating a BH Extra (46 size) vertically upwards, but too noisy for our site

13*8 AOPC at 7M - 78dBa - noticeably less thrust, but enough to fly with a limit to vertical climbs - 1 roll maximum before the speed really bled off.

The first flight it deadsticked on a vertical downline after 4 minutes (6 oz tank), about a 1/4 of the tank used. It's still pretty rich on idle.

Second flight drained the tank, every drop. Unfortunately I hadn't bothered to top it up after the first deadstick so another quiet landing.

For the Horizon guys:

On this side of the pond we have a national recommendation of 82dBa at 7metres, my club are a bit tighter at 80dBa.  On a 12*7 APC this engine is close, but just a shade too noisy, did you consider using a slightly larger volume can or maybe a slightly thicker wall to the casting to take the edge off the bark this engine makes?  Have you experimented with quieter units and if so what sort of results did you see?

Try an APC 14x4 funfly prop. It will both quiet the engine and provide additional vertical torque. The trade off is flight speed, a plane will fly slower but with this engine slower is not slow.

thanks, I'll give that a try. I could probably scrape through on a 13*7 or possibly even a 13*6 but I wanted to fly rather than spend the day playing with props. I'm pretty sure the UC is long enough to take a 14" easily I'll get one on order.

i had a pitts muffler i tried on the bench..i like the factory muffler better cause it seems to tune better with it ..i have a pitts on my glow stinger ii but i think it hurt the performance some...so i ordered an extension for the factory muffler today....no more testing time to fly....

Thnaks for the note. We did experiment with a number of different mufflers and settled on the one we supplied because of performance. What kind of rpm's are you getting with the 12 x 7? When we were doing our testing I felt the 12 x 6 was a better choice for extended climbs than the 13 x 8 and the engine was still noticeably quieter. We did not do any measurements at 7m but now that you have informed us of this we'll use this information in our development work. There is no quick fixes when it comes to noise control -I've been working on it for many years.

I saw that you said you were sending the engine in for service. Our turnaround time is pretty quick. Did you send the engine and ignition module back? Could you teall me what battery/swicth you were using on the module? Just trying to get a handle on your issue.

Sorry Pete, i didn't tacho it.  Did you mean a 13*6 for the extended climb with less noise rather than 12*6?
I've got a couple of OS61SFs that I run on pipes, one a throttle pipe the other a full length quiet pipe, both come in under our 80 dBa limit driving high pitch props so I might look into going down that route as well.

Great engine Pete, starts easy, runs smooth, put a 11 X 6 APC prop on it and idle is good. The weather has been windy and cold here so I only have seven flights but no complants. I like the engine but hate the Avistar[], so i will move onto the GP U Can Do 46. Jim

anybody tried flying the evo 10 gx with pitts muffler exhausting out the bottom...looks like my plane is not gonna let me use factory muffler without cutting on the plane and i don't want to that..just like to know what to do to get it run right..i noticed with my glow set up with it i have to open the high side about 1/2 round more...is this gonna work with the gas engine doing that...

Very nice that a filter and fuel line are sent with the Evo 10 engine. Which direction does the fuel filter face and what is the piece of wire with a loop on one end for?

The filter should be installed with the 1/2 that has the male threads on it on the fuel tank side. This leaves the biggest area of the filter to act as a reservoir for crap to collect before clogging the entire thing. I'll see about embossing an arrow on these in the future.

The small piece of wire serves two functions. 1) it is a needle valve extension for those installed inside a cowl to make adjustments easier, and 2) it is the required 1.5mm diameter that we spec when resetting the low speed needle. You can use this tool as an insert into the carb barrel, close the barrel down on the wire and you have the 1.5mm gap we spec in the baseline settings for the lo speed needle.

I'm going with the factory muffler.i'm not satisfied with the pitts..i'm sure it would be fine but,the muffler yall designed seems so much better..all ive got to do is notch a small spot on fusalage corner where the very end of the muffler won't hit on bottom side of firewall..cowl will cover it up anyway..just put a liitle angle notch and glue it back..about half way done with getting it together.hopefully maiden flight when weather permits probably week or so...
