Today was maiden flight, the combination is perfect in flying and sound. The total weight is 20 kg, but with this weight the bird was easy to fly and land. To fit the engine I had to make the propellorshaft from the 135LE even longer and had to file the valve cap.
Wen the condition from our airfield is better, I will do another flight with video.

Did mr Kolm made this extension?
Any pictures of the install. My engine is supposed to be finished this week
Great flying, som takeoff and landings would have been fun

Hello,
I let make the extension by a cnc factory. It's longer than the original and it has the propellor mount size from the Moki 250/215 ( I like it more than the original Kolm )
Pictures I posted on the german warbird forum rubric 'kolm il 135 in the carf Mustang '( with help of my brother )
Our airfield is in to bad condition becaus of the wet weather last months, so a complete video will have to wait.
I can tell a few things : the engine with propellor give a lot of torque , so you need enough speed by taking of, no mixing necessary with flaps out, landing and flying is very easy. The plane has no problems with the flying weight from 20 kgs. While building put everything as much as possible behind.

Verry Nice plane you have there Koen,
The sound is also awesome
I did read you used a Fiala 32x14 prop , is there a reason why you chose this brand of prop ??
(menz has also 32x14)

@eric : it's a 30*14, Tom with the Spitfire uses the same propellor ( 30" is perfect scale and the Fiala is a good price ), but in futur it will may-be be another one becaus now it's 5000 rpm and it will become 5200 or more. The fiala 30*14 is lighter then the Menz , but is more efficient ( that's what they tell me )
@ Alf : if you wan't I can sent you the dimensions, but keep in mind that normally you also have to file the valve cap and if you let make one take the best quality of aluminium.

Thanks Koen,
(i am looking for a other prop for my old moki215 ,some say Menz is not that good (soft wood), and didn't know this FIALA brand)

Eric,
I mean by light that Fiala 'lies' about the pitch, in real it's less than 14.
If you want power : take the Engel 32*19 super silence
If you want scale : sep propellor ( depend on what plane ), I have 29*18 3bl on my la-7 4000 rpm but good speed 215 km/h, 32*16 2bl on a slower model for more acro
engine runs much reliable with aps pump und better with Detlef Kunkel turbulator. To change the alu rods by carbon is also better. The Kolm is a really different fourstroke engine

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
Hello everybody, I am Carlos from Spain, and I am building another Carf p51 (older version) I had this kit since one year ago and during this time I have read all the post from this thread and sincerely I have learned a lot from you all. Now I have decided to start the building and I want to share with you all the process. Previously I have built a 1/5 scale Top Flite P51 "cripes a mighty third" ( you can see it here ) http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_64..._1/key_/tm.htm
and I will do it again but a little bigger. I am going to use a zdz 80 rv engine which is the engine I bought together with this kit from a closing down hobby shop here in Spain. The retracts are from Darrell. I am planning to use a separate muffler allocated behind the engine ( Will think about it). As I am not going to use a prop extension I had to use a 3,3 inches engine standoffs, but I thought that this length would be too much, so I decided another solution as you will see when I can post the pictures.
Regards

These are the pictures, first I thought to mount the engine with a box stand but I wanted to have easy access to the carburetor so I decided for the standoffs.

I am thinking to install the rudder servo at the back of the rear gear steering servo and install a pull-pull system. I already have marked and made the holes at the rudder for the robart hinges . I have doubts in two steps. First, how do you install the rudder post, what depth into the fuselage?. Second, how do you make the exact holes positions at the fuselage for the horizontal stabilizer dowels?.

I have made the rear plate support for the retract gear an the rails for the attachment to the fuselage. Also I am going to install the elevator servos inside the horizontal stabilizer, as Canuck did so I have to reinforce them. Holes for the robart hinges at the rudder already have been done. The rudder servo will go at the same plate as the steering servo, just behind it

OK guys, after a year off, I have started back on the original Fiberclassics P51. Put it on it's gears today. Your projects has inspired me to work on number 3. Plan to use the "ole 3W 80cc inline". It struggled to pull it's 48lb predecessor, trying to make this one much lighter. This is the Utube link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQDU9DKGf3I

Looks good.
I have not touched mine in well over a year either.
I am still undecided on the engine I want to use. Love the prop, is that static of the flying prop?

I have made at least 50 gear mounts, (even bought and learned to use 3d cad program for design) to get the gears as far forward as possible to align with the outside doors and achieve 85deg when down. Finally came up with the proper mounts. Bummer. Notice the doors on this pic. I shortened Daryl's stand offs by 3/4in on a cheap lathe with 4 jaw chuck. This kept the doors from sticking out so far.

Craig, been missing your posts. Your bird looks great. It's a static prop. I too have been undecided about engine. Like the Kolm, but it must be cowled in, can't have engine protruding that cowl. Welcome back.Charlie

If anyone is interested, this is what I did to the mounts. For different views, left click and select isometric, etc. The mounts have multiple angles to raise the wheels to clear the wing tube and move to the rear when retracted. The alignment of the standoffs to the outer doors remains the same during up down gear movement.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
These pics show the location of gears. The wheels still roll without touching the wing tube this also enables the shorter stand offs. I fiberglassed carbon tow to underside of top wing for strength to keep it from collapsing during balancing. This will be covered with detail inserts. Everything looks "crappy" without paint.
