Recieved the Evolution 77 for the next Corsair build. I may either buy the exhaust ring and modify it or just make my own.

I know. []

I really need to get off my butt and work on mine. I'm trying to remember where I even left off, but I think I was getting close to having to form up the gear doors. I was also trying to get Sam's tailwheel install squared away and I think I was hitting some snags with that. Once the gear install was done though and the gear doors made for all three, I should be into prepping for glass.

That Evolution 77 is awesome! Haven't seen that one before. I wouldn't want to have to feed it though. [X(]

Hey Bob, Yea I'm pretty sure I'll get the ring and then do what I can with it but I like to tinker and there is no rush.

Cobra,
Post some pictures when you can.
I'm not sure how much fuel the engine will consume but I'm not going to worry about it.
I think it will look pretty good once it's all put together.
I'll post some pictures when I start getting the plane together and post some video of the engine running.

I have Seidel/UMS 70 radial. Haven't run it yet but my buddy has run his. They are pretty stingy with the fuel according to him and others with the engine..
Horizon sells the collector ring for a decent price .. just an fyi.

Thanks for the info.
The folks I deal with have the ring but I was not sure what I wanted to do as far as the exhaust goes at the time.

Randy,
Ghost town?
I'll bet there's more activity in the boneyard,
Well, anyway I'll be starting on mine again just as soon as I get the present bird off the bench. One could say that mine has become a hanger Queen.

Hello all!
I have read Rc universe forums for a long time. Pretty much anytime I dove into a new plane I will read hundreds of posts. Which brings me to the Corsair forum, I am assembling the Top-Flite Giant Corsair, robart electric retracts, DLE 55, J'tec exhaust. Anyways its almost ready for maiden this weekend but my buddy at the hobby shop said I needed the Dubro Gas Stopper plug because the one that came with the kit may disintegrate with gas. I know the safe bet is to swap them out, however,I have soldered on barbs, and I am not sure the dubro plug will fit (can of worms) ect. ect. I searched the owners manual (example given is dle55 ) with no mention, found build posts using the black included stopper, also I called Top flite and asked them directly. They said that the tank and stopper is gasoline compliant. But.... before I tear back into my plane can anybody tell me that they used the supplied black stopper with gasoline with out having any problems?
No regrets,
Thanks Andrew

Its been my experiance that the black stopper will not stand up to gasoline. Even when the manufacturer says it will. There is nothing worse than tring to get the black bits cleaned out of the fuel system. I have always used the brown stopper in a my gasoline powered planes. But thats just my opinion.

Your buddy is rite swap out the plug, depends on how long the tank has gas in it My bench test told me about 6 hours.. a 4 buck plug is not worth a 2K bird

Just my opinon

Between you and pappy 883 I don't think there is any one doing the 5N I think your best bet would be to make your own. Alot of guy's have made male plugs and pulled canopy's the plug is the hard part,as it has to be nearly perfect and if you have a good shop vac it may have enough to pull the plastic. There are some good forms hear on RCU the process is a hole new learning thinggy though

Good Luck and keep us posted

Hahaha, thank you very much for the reply. I figured I would have to go that route. O well, more learning of the hobby I guess. Let the games begin.

I'll definitely post some pics once things take shape.

Cobra,
Post some pictures when you can.
Okay, you asked for it. Here it is, as it's sat for the last 6 months.

My shed arrived this week, so hopefully in the near future I'll have the garage cleared and be able to make some progress on the Corsair.

Well, I got it down off the shelf today. But I don't know where to start. []

If memory serves, I started sheeting the bottom of the wing over the wheel wells so I could lay up some glass for my gear doors, but I stopped because I hadn't run the air lines yet for the gear and didn't want to get stuck doing that after all the sheeting was down. So I can start there. Also, I haven't done any reinforcing of the spar above the landing gear notches. Obviously the manual doesn't seem to call for it, but I know it was pretty popular in this thread.

So gear lines, reinforce the spar, finish sheeting the wing, sand it smooth, lay up fiberglass, cut out the gear access/wheel wells, then finish up the ailerons, flaps, and wingtips?

Cobre
If you are planning gear doors knoe os rhe time to lay up the molds cover about twice the area you will need with one of the plastics that peei easy draw the lines spery with pam or ouyher wax spray on layer ot PVA,emough lay up to cover the door erea by an inch and your set.

Just a thought idea from you post

Bob,
I hope your arthritis is better. I can see you're having troubles with the key board again.

Hi all

My bird just about all done, may get some pictures to you guys tomorrow if the weather is good so I can get pics outside instead of in my overjambed workshop.

One little stupid thing I did, remember though, it's been almost three years of off and on work. I saw that the cowl was not mounted perfectly straight with the fuse, so I changed the mounts alittle to angle the cowl down abit and now it looks dead on and I am happy. But stupid me, the motor mounts/firewall have long been done and are very heavy duty and I am not about to change anything. You guessed it, my motorprop hub isnow not in the center of my cowl that has a dummy radial installed.

I had to open up the center of the dummy radial to get the shaft through, now there is a 1/2 gap under the hub and no gap above.

I could fix this with alittle engine downthrust, that would center the hub to the dummy radial.

So the question is : has anybody used engine downthrust on the TF GS Corsair? Any reason why one should or shouldn't do it on this bird?

Tom

Here's a couple of pics of the hub alignment. In the pics it does not look too bad, but it does bug me that after all this I screwed up a basic thing like getting the engine/cowl centered.
