Default Cutting hinge slots with Aero Broach ?

Has anyone had experience with them ? Just wondering after searching and reading three pages on slot cutting crooked in rock hard balsa and drilling large round holes in ailerons, elevators and rudders I thought I'd ask.

For reasons of my own I like the pinned flat hinges from DuBro or Klett... nuff said ?
So after many years I thought I would treat myself to a new set of cutters and did a search on the net.
I came up with Aero Broach and watched his video how to. Seems to work better than the old DuBro cutters that just shove the wood out of the way. I also have a slot machine and used it with varied results.

You will find them here:
http://aerobroach.com/

Guess I'll give them a shot, an so ordered a set from Ron at Precision Aero.

I look forward to your report.
Pretty satisfied with the slot machine, I get varied results based on how much I have had to drink.

vicman

I think I know how you feel, but not for sure.

Now that I have the stress tremors under control via medication....(Propranolol) my family now lets me
butter my own bread. But even then with a spoon I was totally dangerous. Not kidding at all.

Can you imagine what I could do with an Exacto Knife and a #11 blade or even a slot machine running hog wild... I can laugh at it now but was one worried rc'er then.

Will have to write a Customer Review if someone don't beat me to it first.

Thanks Vicman !

Snow is 2 inches deep but melting fast here in North Denver !
Gotta go, got three new pattern ships in the works, and some drawings to do for a fellow in Austrailia.

Cheers

On the hinge cutter or the Propranolol?

I'm looking forward to both

Heheheh...
Good one Vicman..

Just on the Aero Broach for the review, the Propranolol is for my blood pressure but has a side effect of surpressing the tremors. The Propranolol does a good job of both for me.

Cheers

I'm also waiting for your review on the Aero Broach. I looked at the how to video and it looks easy and makes sense. I've been using the slot machine and sometimes I get it right and sometimes not. I don't know about everyone else who owns one but mine has wonder blades in it. Everytime I hit the switch I wonder where it's going, across the wing, bench, fingers?

I have a set of old Dubro two-pronged forks that work OK but don't really remove much material. I also have a slot machine that I find almost useless.  The broach looks like it would work better than both tools I have.

Welcome maekju !

Your wonder blades brings to mind the tv show (I think it was Tim the Tool Man) had the Hand Held Belt Sander Races... I thought it was the funniest till I saw him on his hopped up riding lawn mower race.

I think I can expect the Aero Broachs in a week or two from now.

Cheers for Now !

Hi huck1199 !

I'm on board with you.
I had thought of building some kind of table to hold the slot machine, but that just seemed to be too much.
Besides am running out of room for anymore tool tables!

And am tired of digging out the waste of the of the other with a cut down jig saw blade and that little pick thing.

Will give AeroBroach the Old RCM Tried-Tested and Approved, Test to see.

Cheers

Ken...

You should get yours first as Ron won't ship mine till Tues. next when he gets home.
If so come back and give us a run down on what you think? Ok?

I was just thinking about maybe having to use a backer balsa board or do a almost through and the going through from the back side to eliminate any split out. I believe the manufacturer mentioned having to use a bit of blue foam or some such thing. Don't remember exactly so will go back and watch the video again.
Some of the wood we get anymore is not the greatest quality anymore.

Cheers

My order came in yesterday and of course I had to try them immed.

Pros:
1. They do work as described and IMHO they work well.. in normal building grade balsa (not the hard stuff, which not much of anything works well in.)

2. Make straight controlled plunges and work the broaches side to side as in the video.

Check out the video here:
http://aerobroach.com/

Cons:

1. The #5 Excel (red handle) knife is ok for the two thinner broaches but the jaws must be reworked for the 1/4 size broach.

A word of caution though. Please Work over your work bench or use a backer block of wood. Do Not use over your lap as these tools are sharp.

I know I like mine !

Cheers
