Interesting - funnily enough I actually tried the ally plate on the small door to start with similar to yours, but I was unhappy with the length of plate sticking out and felt it might be prone to a bit of bashing about during handling and in and out of wing bags etc, so changed it around.

What turbine did you have in yours Marc?

regards

Colin

I finished my geardoors last week, I had just cut my larger door , the one mounted on the oleo leg 1/4 longer than it needed to be as they come as a full length door including the small door, so now my small door is on springs and simply sits on the larger one , again not scale but it will work, and nobody will notice at 90mph , I hope, please don't look to close boys! :-)

Ahh yes, I remember seeing that at Long Marston a few years ago, Ali was doing a photo call with it. I think I said to him at the time that I had to get me one of them in the near future, it was so nicely done. I don't remember seeing it fly though, I guess it must have got snapped up pretty quick.

By far the best hawk I have ever seen. It was actually a turnkey that we were building for a customer. The customer was unhappy with the delays ( The jet was considerably more complex a build than we anticipated ) So I refunded him what he had paid and it became mine..... For all of about 10 days. [&:] Another one of our regular clients saw it and snapped it up. Shame. I would have love to have flown in!

Well my baby has flown. And what a beauty ! Arrived at a VERY cold flying field this morning whilst it was still snowing lightly with flying buddy reminding me that I was mad to be doing this today and asking if I had any Eskimo ancestry.

Test flight was about as uneventful is could be. Took off into a 10 knot crosswind and she just floated off beautifully, gear and flaps away and got some height to set trims. 2 clicks of up and 1 click of right was all that was needed and the control movements / expo I had set seemed perfect. Didn't do too much in the way of aeros for the first flight. Just wanted to get the feel of her and get back down safely. Full flap called for a little bit of up trim but other than that, just pointed her at the runway, rounded out into the flare and touched down at my feet. All systems worked perfectly and to be honest I am ecstatic ! Lovely model.

Unfortunately only got the one flight in as the cold stopped the ECU battery from giving me enough go for another start and I didn't have a charger with me so more fun will be had as soon as I can get out again.

Thanks very much to Mark H for the pics and turning up today in the freezing cold. Only got the one token flying shot as he claimed he was shivering too much to aim the camera

Some more static shots from today. Ive still got quite a few little scale bits to put on here and there and then a bit of weathering to finish off.

Congratulation Colin

Can't wait to get mine airborne as well [8D]. Mine is in the paint box and we will continue tomorrow. Waiting for water decals from tailormade and cockpit from Carf. Still a lot of work left...

Brgs,

Hi Colin

You are a superman. I received my Red Arrow scheme yesterday and just opened it today. It looks great. We were discussing the build and guessed about 60 to 70 hours. Is this a correct estimate?

Great job again.

Thanks very much Guys - it was a very happy day ! The whole assembly was quite pleasurable so Im sure you guys will have a blast. And the flying - just magical - if ever there was a "bigger they are the better they fly" this one is it - and I thought the smaller CARF Hawk was great.

Yes I see what you mean Paul I do look like mini me hiding in the back there - its great to have a model of this size and more importantly - quality so "ARF" now.

Behzad I think you are about right there. Its difficult to have a set time as different people work at different rates and will finish to different levels but 60 to 70 hours is a fair "relaxed" building time.

regards

Colin

Hi Collin

Congratulations for the maiden. The hawk looks great.
How did you do the white bow on the big canopy glass? Is it just painted?

Regards
Martin

Thanks Martin

The white bow comes in the cockpit kit - along with the full splitter screen between the 2 cockpits which consists of the white bow as you see it, a ply hoop to line the inside of that drilled to accept the perspex screen and a lower fibreglass moulding. Will take a picture and post it.

regards

Hi Colin

From flying the plane, do you think that a 160SX would fly this plane good. I am planning on 180RX but I have a 160sx readily available as well.

Thanks

Liking this jet!
Anyone know the best way to order one to the US?
Do I need to find Andy Kane or do I go through the website?
Thanks

I haven't had enough time on it to really make a good judgement but at the moment, I would say I wouldn't want to have less thrust than I do with the 180. A number of the original Skygate versions flew on 160's and they do fly well but you won't be doing any spectacular routines without very clever management of the inertia using a 160SX.

Even with the 180 it takes a circuit to really get "on the step" if you want to push it into some of the bigger manouvres.

Will report back as soon as I've got some more flight time. Fingers crossed for better weather over here, this cold is killing me !

Regards

Colin

Hi Colin

Thanks. I will go with 180. It makes sense as the plane seems like to have a good amount of drag.

Do you by any chance know who makes a center tank for it. Mine is red arrows so a center tank would be nice to have.

Thanks

Behzad

No Problem at all. I sent you an e- mail directly as well. For all to know, after opening the boxes, the plane looks great.
