Cool subject Nick. I'm building one of Ed's 200 at the moment. The nice thing about doing it in 1/4 scale is that Sierra already has the gear for it.
As far as his cowl goes, I noticed the plans show it sloping in like a cone but that's not how he made the cowl.
I'm finding a lot of 3-views and I stack them up in AutoCAD and there are just slight differences. The plans we are using show a larger aileron than the 3-view but since I have (3) 3-views that match I will change the aileron/flap size.
The airfoil on the plans are an odd duck. I've tried matching them up to all sorts of airfoils and they don't match anything I've found. I researched this a lot because I was going to use the CNC hotwire to make the wings out of foam.
The left wing is 20 cm longer so mine will be 50 mm longer.
I would like to see what you have in the way of c.200 plans and data.
I thought about a c.202 for a later build. It would be cool to use an inline engine in it. What are you considering for power plants? A guy named Detlef is working on a V-4 engine. It would be nice to design the airplane around one of those.

If you are going to compete then find a real Macchi and 3-views that are close to that. Rules follow documentation. I have seen the different cowl shapes and have decided to use what will allow the cowl to slip over a Saito 325.

Hi nickhuang,
your project is very interesting and I check it very often. Will you have a plan for Mc. 202?
I want to ask if you know some e-shop in the UK, where is possible to buy a Century Jet Model scale pilot.
I would like to buy one, but all shops are in the USA and I need it in the Europe.
Here is small motivation for you. These two planes belong to my friend.

Carl, you're right on. Since the 3-view is just a bit different, and that is what will be in the documentation, I will go by it.
My cowl matches the 3-view and is fitting over a Moki 150 and I have about 3/8" around for the lifters to fit.
I would still like the 202. But the motor choice will be more difficult if you don't want it showing. I hope nickhuang get's one flying.
Daniele, your 202 looks good. Flight videos if you can Do you think it will be ready by summer?

A 1/4 Macchi C200 with a 150 Moki should be heaven. I am jealous and drooling over the thought. Real planes have round engines! It will be magnificent.

Hi Tim,
I don't have that much on the Macchi 200 apart from scans of the service manual and parts manual that shows some technical drawings & plans of the Saetta. Most of the factory blueprints I have are for the Macchi 202 and 205.
As for the cowl here's a picture taken from the service manual.

RE: Macchi 202/205 RC plans and 3dmodel
Hi Prekin,
I'm still slowly working on the plans. I had to spend quite sometime deciphering the original cowling & fuselage co-ordinates data from a poor scan of an original blueprint. Plus it's hard to comeby the original factory data for the canopy section .... luckily I manage to get that too (yippee) and also the actual plan for the tail surfaces. So all those bits need to be redone as I am trying to get the model as accurate as possible. About making the plans available.... I probably could put them out at some point in the future after I have test flown the aircraft.
Besides I've got side tracked building my P39

Prekin,
By the way.... those are really nice G55s, bet they fly fasr and very well too since the G55s have large wing area.

In this blog you can see the basic design of the Macchi 200 Saetta, as well as the Macchi 202 Folgore.

Slowly a 202 begins to emerge. I have been working on it very dilligently for the last couple of weeks. I hope to have the airframe pretty much completed by the end of August so that I can begin the huge process of making all the plugs for the many fiberglass parts.

When is that going to be available ??
Size again please?

I may offer plans and parts when it's done, assuming it flies well enough, but can't say when that might be. Probably be another year before the airplane is finished and then the CAD files would have to be cleaned up, organized, and labeled which is a very time consuming task. Really need to be sure it's going to be worth the effort before doing all the work required. Span is just under 114 inches.
Here's a pic that illustrates the size a bit better. Please ignore the dazed and confused looking fellow. (It was hot and I was tired!)

Looks great Chad!
Perhaps by the time you get all taking care of I might add it to my build project list.

Chad,
I hope you do bring the Macchi to WOTR. I am going to be there and will have a tent on the flight line. It would look nice resting in the tent. Seriously we are looking for a couple of other guys to share the tent with. If you are interested let me know. Brian always puts us front and center.

Hi Cal,
Thanks for the invitation! I will be car-pooling down there with a good friend and between the two of us and the airplanes I'm not sure we will have room to bring our own pop-up shade or not. As such we would definitely be interested in sharing the space. Drop me a note at the addy below and we can discuss the details.
