Gotta admit, the fuse did look very nice last night.

I took the fuse and cowl over to Vertical's shop last night so he could see it up close. While there, we were able to get some kinks figured out with a multi-port air valve sequencer for his set of air retracts and gear door cylinders for his big 110"+ ta-152 kit build. He would have gotten it all figured out on his own at some point, but two sets of eyes usually speeds the process up a good amount. The instructions/pics for installing the unit and lines didnt match up with what we needed to do to get it working. Hate that LOL!

Got my HobbyKing Spitfire today, I must say I am impressed with this bird. Very light weight, it has an iron on covering on the wings and everything is painted very nice. I ordered my retracts from the international warehouse and they have not come it yet. I'm going to install a DM-55, so when I get going on this we shall see how it flies, hopefully pretty soon!

KMP doesnt sell squat of their own. They dont have their own brand.....its always been ESM planes that they sold(majority). After KMP lost the import rights to North America for ESM.....they continued to sell ESM planes in Canada only. They also tried to import Vantex brand planes(the spitfire that hobbyking is selling, the fw-190d9 that is still sold thru cozmiktoys and a couple other places in China...and the at-6 that Hobbyking also sells). However, when they pushed that they were superscale and signature KMP only brands, they got laughed at because people already knew these planes existed overseas.

The spitfire NOW looks damn good. The old paint scheme that was on the Spitfires when KMP was trying to sell them looked rather cartoonish and superbright pastel in appearance. Same with the fw-190D9. The D9 still looks bad paint scheme wise and thats a big reason KMP never was able to sell many...especially sicne the ESM version had their paint scheme pretty accurate and much more realistic(although Im not a fan of the red/white underside...I painted mine) ).

ESM and KMP are NOT the only competition for HK planes. Topflite has a fair number of decent sportscale planes in the giant scale size as does Hangar9. There are other brands out there(still talking arfs here...such as the stand a mile away scale easytigermodels) and many sold in Europe that are much more scale then anything HK, topflite, or hangar 9 offer. ESM is a cut above those three in scale appearance, but does take more work to get finished. Yet...some of the stuff in Europe blows ESM out of the water(much pricier too)....however...I personally cannot attest to how easy they may be to put together....or if they are arfs at all(might be composite fuses with kit build wings for all I know)

thanks Kahlog. when I referred to kmp and esm "only" I was just referring to the lower priced composite fuselages. I have also noticed that Yellow Aircraft is selling these, from who I don't know.

I hate to admit it, but after having the ESM T-6 Texan II for a year now I love composite and may never buy a iron-on covered plane again. we have such high temp and humidity swings here that covering just looks like crap in short order. the ESM T6 is just gorgeous all the time. I have a DLE55 sitting here and trying to figure out what I want to put it in. I would do the ESM FW-190, but personally I just hate the lines of the D9, "A" version much prettier to me. I like the Navy color scheme on the HK T-28, but I guess will not be available here. Nw I'm looking at a larger FW190 A version sold by easy tiger/texasrcplanes/Apple hobby - so many decisions to make.

Its the same exact plane, just different paint scheme. Vantex produces two color scheme....that one with the invasion stripes and the one Hobbyking sells. Both paint scheme are availble NOW through either cozmiktoys or fuyuanrc.com

This Spit looks nice and I'd like to get one.
I tried ordering it but the odd thing was that the web site checkout did not allow me to select shipping....only local pickup in Washington state.
There was no way to check a box for shipping or anything, and I could not uncheck the box specifying local pickup.
I need it shipped to me in NC.

What am I missing here guys?
Help out an old fart here please.


Also....does anyone know if a DLE-55RA will fit inside the cowl?

I obviously live in the states and I had the option of choosing UPS shipping or local pickup.....though Im not driving to Washington. I just went through the order process again a sec ago and right under self collection in Lakewood, Washington, there's a little dot to click to select UPS small parcel shipping(for me the cost is $125)

Any 50cc motor will need to have openings in the cowl for cooling, but the majority of the motor should not poke out using a dle55ra

On your pictures of the engine mount, why do they cut all the holes in anything in front of the center of gravity. a difference I have noticed from the topflite arfs.

Hi kahloq,
your Spitfire looks, that is prepared for electric engine. What is in the instruction manual? If it is for the electric, maybe you should make the firewall stronger.
But is only my opinion.

I question the strength of that engine box as well. Some extra ply and possibly some aluminum right angle brackets screwed in to reinforce that thing. 50cc creates a big thump, and care must be taken to account for that. Otherwise your Spit could become tail heavy in flight!

The manual specifically mentions a gas motor and shows pics of one being installed. My friend Fred who also bought the plane thinks the firewall is strong enough.....he's been building for 30+ years. It definitely wouldn't hurry to add additional strength to it though.

I see 2 tongues in the wing root, and slots for these short tongues in the fuselage wing section, but is there a tube fastening them all together? what gives the wing & fuselage join rigidity

As you know, manual specs do not really amount to too much IMO. (CG issues anyone?) Experience tells me otherwise, and if you remember, I commented on mounting to that box when I initially saw the thing. Any mods will be very easy though, and it should not take much.

I almost wonder if maybe you guys should start a new thread specific to this plane, now that it is the primary focus? Might help others to find it that are interested.
