Nice work Woj! How's the mini glass instrument biz going? Well I hope, as they are very cool.

thanks ... the instruments have been moving pretty well actually. I have not marketed much at all yet, so its doing better expected. Its a good way to make big toy money lol .. We are about to actually integrate the MFD product into a scale building shop/service soon, with a lot of other products and accessories to follow. As for the screens, im working on a transparent animated HUD screen right now as well as a static display lit HUD ..
Cockpits are something spectators usually tend to focus on a lot, so I fond that scaling them out nicely first makes for a great overall impression of the aircraft ( well, on a static display level at least .. )
Speaking of cockpits, Here is something that makes them even more realistic I'll have a video of him ion the airplane soon !

Check out this video from Best In The West Jet Rally. There are some "best scale video" moments in there.
Make sure to select the 720p setting and a larger screen size.
Thanks,
Paul Reese

I just have to post this photo here. As many of you probably guessed, this is an actual WWI-era color photo of a N17 using the Autochrome Lumiere color photography process. What's fascinating to me is how much it looks like a model in this photo. And the photography itself is very instructive about stereotypes people often hold about ''old planes and old photos.'' First, notice that the image is incredibly sharp. This is because it was taken using a large-format plate camera (probably 8'' x 10''). This means there's about 52 times as much ''real estate'' on the negative as on a typical 35mm negative. I'm not sure what this equates to in terms of megapixels but it's a LOT. The ''toy-like'' quality of the photo is the result of the way large format cameras can be tilted and shifted to affect the depth of field.
Finally, notice are really clean and colorful the aircraft is.

RE: Best scale photo!
Hi Paul,
Top marks, mate - a superb piece of work! I can't make up my mind which, for me, is the best bit, but those A-10 look bloomin' good, especially with the vidcam on the tail.
TTFN,
Neil

Thanks a lot Neil. It's nice to know that someone clicked on the link I debated on whether to tip off that it was about jets in this particular thread.
Makes me happy that the "best in the business" enjoyed it! And also couldn't be happier that he had a hard time picking a favorite part

RE: Best scale photo!
Hi Paul,
I've just watched your video for a second time and to be honest it seems even better than the first time. I've got bought videos/DVD's in my collection that aren't as good as yours. Good to see Ali doing what he does very well - flying superb model jets. I can't believe more people haven't commented on your excellent work. A big thank you for sharing!
Ali's Hawk from the video.
Ali's A-10
Thanks again,
Neil

Neil,
Beautiful photos. I sure wish I could get the video equivalent of your photography, but don't see how that could even be possible. The tighter you get, the crazier things get. And you absolutely have to shoot handheld, so perfect tracking at those zoom levels would require blind luck.
The video is a fairily rapid edit that is crammed with "mostly" good stuff. If you look away to grab your coffee, you just missed something. Takes a couple of viewings to really see my intent.
It is very demanding trying to turn 12-14 hours of footage into an 18 minute short. As you can imagine, much good stuff was left on the "editing room floor", as they say.
RE: more people commenting...not everyone is a commenter, so I don't get "chuffed" about it. (Never used the word chuffed before so hope it is correct here
The Ferrari hawk in the video was a smaller, Fly Eagle Jets hawk I believe. The huge Red Arrows hawk was a Skygate, I believe. Ali literally bounced from one plane to the next, flying everything in sight.
Just about everyone preferred to have Ali's magnificent thumbs doing the work on their planes...and why not? Chance of something terrible happening is 0 to 1%. Hard to not just relax and watch your expensive mount fly gracefully without the anxiety.
Plus you can say that your model was flown by THE Ali Machinchi!
Always a fun time when Ali is in da house!
Thanks again,
Paul

Hi All,
Couple more old timers. The Magister was the very first large model in the UK to be registered - CAA certificate 1.

Neil

That Magister model (hardly) really is something.
What size Neil? Certainly not Small... or even Very Big.
Knowin' the UK scene... best start with absolutely MASSIVE.
Great pic.

And a few more ..................
I think this picture will make you guys in the sunnier parts of the World smile - British weather in August. About 5 minutes later big rain shower - luckily the worst of the heavy rain storms throughout the day completely missed Barkston.
TTFN,
Neil

Nice shots Neil! A buddy of mine bought a Hawk at Florida Jets that is identical to that one. Same scheme and markings. Here are a couple shots I took of it.
