Default 45 inch cat hull, motor choice

I am after some advice on what motor size and Kv for a single drive setup on a 45 inch cat hull. I will be running 8s as I have a few 4s packs to use, the boat will be used for sport running. I know most run cat hulls with twin drives but I want to keep it simple and a little cheaper.

Thanks

On 8s the Castle motor will rip
Sounds like you have already picked a motor ???

you need to give goals of the build and how much you have to spend
again the Castle 2028 ( 780kv ) is a simple solution and also cheaper than other options
also what hull are you powering [:-]

Id go with a 5692 5694 tp or leopard motor kv probably 1000 and a good esc.You could spin quite a decent sized prop and get good speeds.

Im going to be using two TP 5694 motors 1000 kv in an apache 58 i think one is enough but im planning on running just 6 s for the most part, one motor would probably be enough but i just like the idea of twins and this way i dont need to use expensive esc,s to start with.If i was going to use a single id go to at least 8 s and use my swordfish pro 240 esc.

I have a 58 inch apache that I just installed twin motors, i went with a motor setup that a bloke did on his apache hull he used 6s. I think he used one of your hulls, it is a great budget build with good speed.

The Castle 2028 780kv motor is a great choice
I run a 41" falcon cat with twin 2028 castle motors i know they are not the cheapest motor but i would say "bang for buck" nothing comes close for power ,
i am swinging twin 70mm 3bladers on 10s per side with good run time too

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11064340/tm.htm

last few pics show 2028's fitted and running

That's all that I hear about the 2028 motors!
for the price they can't be beat

I have a Leo 5698 in my 42" Sprintcat on 8s and I really want to try the CC2028 and sell the Leo motor

Its $279 for the castle 2028 sometimes $379 am i right in saying theyre rated at 8000 max wattage output and 30 k rpm ? havent been able to find much info but im sure i read that somewhere correct me if im wrong.
The TP 5694 motors claim theyre rated at upto 12000 watts and upto 50 k rpm for $100 sounds like a great deal to me.I can imagine that those numbers are maybe slightly exagerated knowing China but still theyre pretty dam good motors for the money.Has to be the best bang for the $ that ive seen thats for sure.

Hp88.

Perhaps we know each other.
Do you run boats at Boondall Entertainment Centre? Or perhaps at Lakeside Raceway. If not, there's two clubs you could join if you want. Lakeside is full blown organised racing. Boondall is a fun club with scale, sail, & fast electrics.

Cheers.
Paul.

everyone knows those TP numbers are way over rated!
but they do run well
if Castle did the same % the CC2028 motor would have numbers in the 15000watt range

Just googled the LEO 4092 motors i can see why they are half the price of the CC2028 they are half the size [:-] there only a 700 size motor 40mm x 92mm can with 5mm shaft , the castle 2028 is a 59mm x 112mm with 8mm shaft and rated at 10hp

think a single 2028 would work better on a large hull with 65 - 70mm prop you would save on 2 lots of running gear shafts , esc's and two smaller motors , i cant see them 2 small motors making the same torque and power as 1 single 2028

Phil i was refering to the 5694 TP motors theyre only $100 and rated at 12000 watts or 16 hp[X(] if you believe there specs lol .Probs closer to your 8000 watts i reckon.
All i know is theyre awesome motors for the money and there have been a few reviews on them and there well made.I for one wont be wasting my money on a $279 motor when these do the job.
Ill be using two 5694 1000kv motors in the Apache, starting on 6 s for now and well see after that, but im expecting great speed even on 6s.Heres a link to some,i dont have any left in stock .
Mart
ps regards small motors the 58 Apache has done 52 mph just using 2 600 size outrunners on 6 s .

Mart i must say that looks a good motor will be interested to see how it runs in the Apache , with that KV i would be tempted to start on 8s you will get much better run time

Yea they seem good a few guys have tried the 4092 versions with good results so im looking forward to giving them a try.I know what your sayign about 8s and that was my thinking also but i do have some brand new 6 s lipos i bought a while back so ill just use these for now i also dont want to fork out on expensive esc,s just yet so was going to try the cheap t 180 escs on 6 s.If i want to go with higher voltage ill get another swordfish 240 pro esc as i only have one otherwise id use those, again trying to keep costs down a bit if i can.

You are way out of date. Castle 2028s are selling for under $200 right now, a huge bargain considering their quality and proven high performance. They put the big Leopards to shame, run much cooler and last forever. Podium finishes at the 2012 FE Nats on 8S. They swing gas sized props (70-72mm) which these boats were designed for. Pay for the cheap Chinese motors if you want, it's your money. Personally I am more concerned with value rather than price. Too many folks confuse the two words.
