I recently traded for a Kyosho kit-built Cessna 188 Agwagon, 63" span, same as RedTwilight mentioned on page 65 of this thread. Could someone tell me where the CG should be located? I've searched this thread, and can't locate it. Would an OS 91 four stroke be too much engine for this?
Thanks. Rod

28 to 30% wing cord should be plenty safe for that plane on first flights.

I finally finished the rebuild of my airtractor and had to first flight today. There are still some small details I want to add but I am still trying to figure out how I want to do them.

The plane turned out beauteful. How does it fly? Mine flew OK, but just a bit pitch sensitive. It was just a matter of elevator dial in adjustment. On my second AirTractor, I used a NACA 0015 airfoil. Although not scale, it flew much much better.

Great job, do you still have the plans for your fertilizer spreader. I want to install one on my 602.

My 502 flies great. Very much like its scale counter part. My 502 also gets pitch sensitive if I get it too slow on approach. The spreader was done totally from scratch. If I were to build another, I would probably try some different mounting designs but it works great. I have really been considering buying another kit and building it with the posobility on competing in mind. Everytime I look at it I see something else I would like to add but the was build for my own personal enjoyment.

Cropduster 48,

You undercarriage is awsome. I thought of gutting my hopper system and redoing it like your but I just dont have the time and was ready to get her back flying.

You know, I have ended up doing the same as you. In my case, I simply got tired of working on it, and said, lets go do some flying. What you are looking at in the pictures is just the gate box. That is the part the spreader ataches too. I built a spreader also, but never finished it. It is laying out in the shop for two years now. The big airtractor is a joy to fly, but a pain in the ass to get to the flying field. The wing span is 11 feet, and it weighs 63 pounds, although you would never know by flying it. The plane itself is standoff scale, as a lot of demonsions are not to scale. Main frame is a little longer than scale, the wing cord is wider than scale, and the wings are actualy quite a bit shorter than scale. Also the elevator aera is cut down, and the stab is increased. Makes for a great flying plane. All this was my own design. The power is a DLE 170. I mainly just fly this plane for demonistration flights now. I have severial planes that are much easer to get to the flying field, and are just as much fun. I scratch built a Porter PC-6 that is just a joy to fly. It weighs 5 pounds, is made out of foam, and has a autopilot installed in it. Its scratch built also. I just finished a scratch built a flying wing, have flown it twice befor winter set in, and am just waiting for some desent flying weather now. I used a MH-92 airfoil for it, and just wanted to see how well it would work. The airfoil is just for flying wings. So far, the results have been better than expected.

Duane Habets used factory drawings to design my airtractor and it is as close to the scale line as you can get. it wieghs about 16 lbs with out powder. I think if I fill the tanks all the way up it will add at least a pound to it. I initially had a O.S 91 four stroke on it an was worried it would not fly it, But it did. I eventually put a ys 110 on it for the extra power and then moved to gas. I have plans for the tom fitgerald agcat but I dont have time for a scratch build right now. If the government lets the sequestration happen, the military is pretty much getting shut down so maybe I will be able to mess with it then.

So who is going to beat me to building one of these with an operational spray system, (it helps that I fly the plane in the photo )

No problem big guy. I have the spray system just about were I want it. I saw the spreader and thought it would be nice to have but after looking at this I would have to re-do the under carrage and right now I just want to get the spray rig working and fly the plane. I am glad you changed to a bigger engine. I have not started my Agcat yet. I had Duane delay for a while I had other things going on and I just did not have the time.
I will post pics of the spray system for this plane once I get it like I want it.

stay in touch

Rod,

Your actually not too far away from me! Maybe (long shot but possible) you have my old AgWagon! I traded it to another club member a year or so ago. He sold it a few months ago.
The .91 would be way too much for it. The one I had flew with a Saito .56 four stroke.
Good luck and safe flying!

I've got one of these old Kyosho Agwagon kits begging to be built. I can hear it whispering to me from under the bench...

I'm currently finishing up an Agwagon I started years ago (from RCM plans. It's one of those projects that never seems to end!

I've got a few of those never ending projects. One of which is an AgWagon that I found plans online, then I enlarged it to a 72" wingspan. I've got it about 1/4 built and then stopped. I still haven't started back on it after a couple of years. Another was a 108" span Ayres Thrush. Not much there other than I started framing the fuselage and ran into a problem that I need to correct. Also the Floyd Fitzgerald AgCat and New Zealand Aero Products 1/4 scale AgWagon.

One day I may start back back on them. Probably the AgCat first. In the mean time I'm build a 1/12 scale AgCat designed by Pat Trittle and a 1/12 scale Ayres Thrush designed by myself. Both for electric power.

POST PICTURES ! I need inspiration too!

My latest "problem" (among many to work out) is how to attach the windshield to the fuselage and curved cockpit cap.

Ok here are a couple of pics of my 1/12 scale Ayres Thrush and the Trittle AgCat next to each other.

You can find a build thread of the Thrush here:
