RE: Ed's Ziroli B-25 Build
Nice progress bigE! I'm watching this thread closely as I have the 118" Ziroli B-25 I'm going to get started probably this year. (If I can find what box I packed the plans in when I moved a couple of years ago.) I got the 'Short Kit' as well as the Plastic/Fiberglass stuff Ziroli sells on his web site.
Keep up the great pictures and progress!
George

Thanks George. I found some good threads on this build with the help of Termites dream (links are earlier on in this thread) that are helping immensely. Lots of good ideas out there.

Prepping the wing skin for the bottom. I like to edge glue all the sheets together first to make a single skin using titebond 2. After the glue dries I sand the sheet to make sure it's perfectly smooth before installing.

RE: Ed's Ziroli B-25 Build
One more thing to do before sheeting was to figure out how I was going to hold the wing panel onto the center section. I went back and forth with the different ways to do it that I found looking through some other threads, but decided on something a little bit different. My approach has a single bolt that goes through a 1/4" ply plate that is attached to the outer wing spar, through a balsa and ply block that is glued to the center section wing tube guide, through the wing tube itself, and then through another balsa/ply block attached to the top of the wing tube guide and into a blind nut.
First pic shows how I used a scrap piece of tube with some sand paper attached to get the bottom balsa/ply to a nice snug fit.
I used a drill press to get a nice straight hole through the ply plate and into the wing tube.
After gluing the top and bottom balsa/ply blocks to the wing tube guide in the center section, I attached the panel to the center section tightly and continued the hole through those blocks.
Finally, added the blind nut and voila! Panel is tightly attached to the center section and with a rubber washer on the bolt, I feel positive that this will hold up just fine.

RE: Ed's Ziroli B-25 Build
Alright, last post of the weekend. I laid my wing skin over the plan, laid the panel over it, and traced the ribs onto the skin. With the 1/4" sq stick pinned to the plan in the right spot for washout, I laid a bead of titebond to the lines I traced and carefully set the panel on the skin and weighted it. I used CA to glue the flap and aileron ribs to the skin. Once dry I carefully curled the sheet at the wing tip and glued it in place. Everything appears to be nice and straight. I don't know why I was so worried about this part... Actually went pretty smooth once I figured out the best way to get the job done.

Ok I lied. One more post. I'm really happy with how the bottom sheeting went on. And the panel is finally rigid and straight as an arrow. Also happy with how the curve at the wing tip came out. I was worried that the balsa would snap, but all is well. Now Comes the other side.

I spent the last few nights working on the opposite wing panel. Now Both are sheeted on the bottom and ready to separate flaps and ailerons, but I'm going to hold off on that for a bit. Next up is work on the nacelles. (It's not letting me post pictures right now! Argh!)

Thanks guys. I'll try doing it the old fashioned way for a while till it gets fixed. Here is the wing with the bottom sheeting installed.
And last night I started working on the nacelles. The two main formers that hold the retract mounting blocks went in first with epoxy.

I hope to start the fuse this weekend. I wanted to have the wing and tail partially complete or at least framed up before starting it- I think it will be nice to have them ready as it goes together. Stay tuned...

Great thread with great pictures. This airplane is on my bucket list... Here is my contribution to this building thread: http://www.raysmodels.ca/Technical%2...ps%20index.htm
Go through the Technical Tips to the article on Strip Planking. Best one I have found in my library... Shows not only the proper way to strip the planks but also how to handle the strips as the spaces narrow.

I've got my Me163 about half planked using that article for reference. Once you get a feel for it the planking moves right along but VERY tedious Stripping the planks out of balsa sheets also takes a long time... Always need way more than you think!
