OK, you like chain saws..... still not the sound of a real aircraft.... Just the sound of a prop cutting the air sounds better than a chain saw motor, or weed whacker..... really,,,,

You are revealing the fact that you don't know what Glasscock is talking about and also your lack of knowledge around 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. Glasscock indicated 1/3 throttle with a 4-stroke engine (Saito, OS FS, etc.). In your last post, you mention chainsaws which are 2-stroke gas engines. Although larger displacement, those will still sound very much like 2-stroke glow engines that you obviously don't care for. In that regard, you are correct, the 2-strokes do not sound much like full scale aircraft, unless you are talking about something like an ultralite or other small homebuilts that are powered by... say a Rotax engine.

OK boys - let's play nice. Nitro - Gas - Electric... they all have one thing in common... that deadly sound when they crash. Let's enjoy them while they are still around.

I was only picking on the guy about how he "likes" the noisy nitro engines. Obviously, some of you realize they don't really sound so good, or you would not get so touchy about it. Seems that way. If it doesn't sound like the real full scale engine, it's just noise to a lot of us. A lot of the sound from real planes is from the prop, which you can hear with electrics. The neighbors around our flying field don't like the miserable noise from the gas and nitro engines so much, that we are not allowed to run them before 9 am, so it is not just me. It is so peaceful before the noisy nitro and gas engines start up. We are next to a cemetery and have flight restrictions during funerals due to the noise from the gas and nitro engines. Seems the dead do not like them either. No such problems with electrics as long as you don't crank them up too much and rip up the air with the props. Enjoy your weed whackers..... 2 or 4 stroke.... I will enjoy my quiet, clean, electrics... to each his own... OK???? thanks,,,,

Then to 1UGLYPUG's point, an electric powerplant with a Conti IO-550 Powerplant sound from someone like Benedini would be the best option to replicate that sound. A twin 4-stroke glow/gas engine may come close, but won't fully replicate the sound.

I don't think that there is a heck of a lot of difference in the perceived "sound" between a Continental IO520 and an IO550. Yes, the former is rated at 285hp and the latter at 300hp. The difference one experiences is when one sits behind the 550!

I noted this thread is over 10 years old good news is that kits are still out there and bring there original price 225. Robart still makes the gear. Power plant is wide open. I saw a happy camper with a just bought kit in hand a the Perry swap shop. A skilled builder like Hal Humphrey could add inner gear doors and corrigated control surfaces. My favorite the D Shannon Speed Slope canopy and the Baron 55 that evaulved from the Bonanza and then the ARF!
It's the plane that keeps on giving!!

Hey Teamscalepilot - I too was at Perry and saw a TF Bonanza kit a guy was trying to get $300+ for. Is this the same one you saw?

I have another kit, gear and interior in the workshop if anyone is interested. Too much on my plate for now. Would like to have an electrified one if someone has the time to build it like I would build it...quality build(straight and true) with just enough detail to look great from a 10 foot bystander's perspective.
So, Teamscale, are you saying an ARF is coming???

I wonder what he ended up giving for that kit. I bought my kit at Perry about 3 years ago and paid only $125 - what a great buy!

I still have a kit Nib and considering making it the next project. I had a look at the plastic parts for the first time today and i can see why many people are going with the fiberglass parts. Just like to know if anyone. used the plastic ones. Also what do you guys think of usie the Asp 160 twin motor. I think it might just fit.

The cost to ship that bird is very expensive I understand - something north of $100. OUCH!

Ron,

The UPS shipping charges quoted, have completely put me off from purchasing one of these. As a longtime GA pilot, RC builder and flyer, and former owner of a couple of full-size Bonanzas, I mean who wouldn't want one. But paying close to $160 for shipping alone is, in my opinion, ludicrous. I fully realize that online retailers cannot control what shipping company's charge. But if it were me, I'd do whatever it took to find a less expensive way.

AGREED - it no better than being charged $8 shipping for a $2 part.
