I have both a k80 and modelbau f-86...

I Love the k80, would do another in a heartbeat....

As for the f-86, the price point is great but be prepared for some work! it is not a typical ARF so you will need to go through it pretty good! For me, I got burned out on all fixes and upgrades on the f-86 so I ended up putting the 86 to the side and need to get back going on it and try and Finnish it up or find someone who wants a f-86 that is glassed in primer
Isn't the F86 already finished? Or were you just re-doing it?

Re-doing

well the hole for the wing tube was drilled too large so had to correct that, several formers barely glued in, struts did not fit the retracts well... then I was not happy with the covering job so I stripped off all the covering and glassed the wings and tail feathers. Got it primed and 1 coat of silver and was not happy with my 1st coat so I put it in the corner and have not picked it back up.

<SNIP> Also, has anyone heard anything bad about the F86 Sabrejet from Modelbau on Troy built models website? The nose looks a little funny but the price is right. Thanks.
A little bit of work, but a nice flyer. There is a review in Model Aviation from last year.
Also, there is a thread here on RCU which hashes out all the pros and cons, with the pros leading the cons by a huge margin.

I was about to pull the trigger on a K80F model. BUT....TBM's website lists an E and an F model. But Kingtechturbines has a E and a G model listed, with no F. TBM could not guarantee a G model, since they don't list it. Anyone have any idea what the difference is between an F & G model? I'm not ordering until I can be assured of the difference, and that TBM would ship the G model if that's the latest. They don't stock turbines, they're direct from the factory. My guess is if one orders an F model from TBM, the factory would ship a G instead. But...ya never know! Thanks!

If anyone from KTT (King Tech Turbines) is listening, maybe someone should call TBM and straighten it out?

The G model is an upgraded F model. The F model is discontinued (I believe). The differeince is the G model has only 1 fuel input, the F has 2. The input is in a better location adn the lines done have to go through the fod screen. It also swivels around.

Why order from TBM? Order from Henry at modelbau, and see if he'll match thier deal of a free jet. I hate TBM service they dont know anything at all about what they sell.

Well its been 42 pages and 3 years since I started this thread. The K-80 in my F-86 now has 18 hours on her without a hitch. The motor runs as strong as the first flight. I am looking forward to getting more time on her this summer. I really hope to hit the service interval on it. Might be difficult as I do want to put more time on my F-15 with a K140 in her. Her is video of the F-86 from 2010 Kentucky Jets that I just found. I didn't even know it was taken until now.

wow, that was a really sweet video. HP jets? really nice. I googled that, but all I got was 20 pages of junk on HP inkJET printers. ha ha. When I get a Modelbau F86, I'll be investigating giving it a nose job. Not final yet, but thinking about it. Anyone else done that modification?

Yesterday, I did buy a K80G. I'm told it is very new internally, with more changes than just the addition of internal valves and plumbing. I haven't verified that independently, but the G model is a different color for whatever that's worth.

Here are the specs for the G model:

KingTech G series, a true Fuel Start turbine, will start and run on Diesel, Kerosene and JetA. G series have both solenoid valves built into the front cover, with a single fuel feed that eliminates at least 8 fuel connections upstream to the turbine, making a clean engine install a very simple task.

KingTech K-80G turbine engine, made in Taiwan
Specifications:
Diameter: 95.25mm ( 3-3/4" )
Length: 254mm ( 10" ) - including starter
Weight: 1304g ( 2 lb. 14oz. ) - including starter
Maximum RPM: 145000
Thrust: 8618 g @ 21.1° C. ( 19 lb. @ 70° F. )
Idle: 45000rpm
Exhaust temperature: 650° C ( 1202° F )max
Fuel consumption: 239 g / min ( 8.46 oz / min )
Fuel: Diesel, Jet A1, Kerosene
Lubrication: 5%, 3 to 5% for Diesel
Maintenance cycle: 25 hours

Specifications for the K80E:
Diameter: 95.25mm ( 3-3/4" )
Length: 254mm ( 10" ) - including starter
Weight: 1304g ( 2 lb. 14oz. ) - including starter
Maximum RPM: 145000
Thrust: 8618 g @ 21.1° C. ( 19 lb. @ 70° F. )
Idle: 45000rpm
Exhaust temperature: 650° C ( 1202° F )max
Fuel consumption: 239 g / min ( 8.46 oz / min )
Fuel: Diesel, Jet A1, Kerosene
Lubrication: 5%, 3 to 5% for Diesel
Maintenance cycle: 25 hours

I copied these right from Kingtech's website. As you can see, there's no difference. So whatever the difference to the moving parts, they either haven't tested yet, or those new parts didn't make any difference in performance. Doesn't matter, I own one now.

Oh I forgot the K80G probably has internal solenoids like my K100g does. Makes install cleaner.

Hey Flynstuff....I like your pictures. My kid was an A10 Crew Chief in the Air Force. What's that grey fan thingie in front of your turbine? Is that a scale engine to make your real turbine look better? Does that thing affect your air intake at all? Have you measured thrust both with and without? Just wonderin'.

I took your advise and ordered a Kingtech K80G from Henry at Modelbau. Service was prompt and he was very helpful to close the deal. It came in the mail yesterday and it looks awesome. Here's one unpacking picture. My wife said "they're making jet turbines good looking??? Wow!"

I have a million questions. I'll try to boil them down to weed out the most obvious and post them later. One question though is, is an Ultimate Air Trap necessary? Where does one get that thing? OK, here's a pic of the little beauty.

I did not get a free jet. But I got a really good deal on the Dog Saber. It was far more important to me to make sure I was getting the G model turbine. In fact, I am updating this post mobile from my iPhone while on the way to the FedEx terminal to pick up the jet! So guys, what are the retracts of choice that fit this F86?

KingTech Turbines MAP pricing is probably one of the best the market, especially taking our customers' satifaction track record into consideration. We do not condone price beating, matching, free jet give-a-way cut throating. What you need to do is to determine where you are going to get the best service and support.

Ha ha ha ha! Barry, love ya buddy! But I bet Jetcat, Jet Central, and all the other higher priced turbine builders would laugh considering you're the low price leader in the industry! Keep up the good work, competition is good, and don't stop beating other's pricing!

Barry not sure what you mean by your last post but you should practice what you preach. Everybody knows that the so called MAP of your engines is not worth the price of the paper it is written on. You your self cut throat and out beat your dealers prices. I my self and several friends have purchased turbines from you and it's always about let's make a deal with you. Everybody can be a king tech dealer if they buy a few engines from you. A lot of people know how you screwed Todd out of the exclusivity on these engines anyway this can become a very nasty conversation so lets just quit while this is still civil.

King Tech's are awesome engines and are cheap enough to make jet central and jet cat wonder how you do it. But don't make your self look like you are not cut throating or making deals because you are the king of that. I can tell you that I have recieved well over 15% of MAP from you just to buy from you and not your dealers. So stop it Barry. I apologize if the truth hurts but everybody knows that you will do what ever is necessary to get your engines sold. I don't want anybody to get me wrong King Tech's are awesome and customer service is great but that's not what is in question.

Here is a Video from last year with lots of crosswind

Junkey747, thank you for your post, this reminds me, how hard we were trying to put products out in the market, but surely didn't expect to receive a response like yours from someone who had benefited. Regarding Dreamworks and establishing of KingTech USA, I wouldn't put it the way you did if your intention was to stay civil. In fact, Todd's collaboration and suggestions were and still are highly valued, therefore certain actions have to be taken through the course of KingTech marketing.

I probably won't be able to make everybody happy, but do know we have a good product and we stand behind with our service and support, regardless where you bought it.

Barry

Curious, who are you?
