I got myself a second hand Gee Bee R3 with a moki 250 for over a year ago.And desided to put in the moki 400 last fall and started a rebuild with new paint and full service.Wery happy with the Gee Bee i went for maiden on a frozen lake abaut two weeks ago and it went wery bad.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adnvA...ature=youtu.be

I now deside to build a new one and hoping for some good hints and tips when building from scratch.

Thanks for sharing that. Being the owner of one, it hurts to watch.
Do you know what happened? Appears something broke while in the air ?????

The recommended C/G is 150mm aft of the leading edge. This puts the C/G at the front edge of the wing tube.
If I were building with a 400, I might consider a C/G more to the front.
Glad to share any info you may request - including photos.
I found the below link with many pictures. It's a build of an R3 with Moki 400. Hope this helps.

I'm not the pilot but I can tell you this is one of the best demo I've ever seen! Amazing ![X(]

Are you installing a Gyro ?

I don't have a Gyro in mine, but I believe many of the R3's are flown with a Gyro.
I'm considering the Powerbox I-Gyro.

Yes i made the mod on the rudder and happy i did it makes a better flyer!

Gentlemen,

This past summer my Airworld Gee Bee R3 met it's end. A nose over totaled the cowl, fuse and rudder.
I'm selling the remaining parts and moving on to another plane.
The R3 can be rebuilt if someone wants this awesome aircraft at half the cost of a new one.
A new Airworld Gee Bee R3 with shipping is in excess of $4500.00 USD.
In addition – many hours of building required.
I’ve placed a value of $1000.00 on all remaining parts. The completed parts will save many hours of labor and assembly.The new gear leg set that I did not install was $470 alone with shipping.
The old gear leg set with wheels installed works fine. This can be used until your landings can be nailed precisely.
I estimate an approximate $2000 investment in new parts would restore the plane complete.
I have a parts listing and pictures of all the remaining parts.

I'm placing the order next week, they need 8 to 10 weeks for delivery. it will be a long wait ... :-)
I will of course let you know how it goes, I'm not very skill with painting so I'm planning to do the " texaco" version with the moki 300.

Still do not know what I should do with rudder, Airworld told me that it has been modify in factory ?!?

I think you are going to be happy With the Texaco and moki 300 and always a pain in the ass waiting for New Things... :-)

You are saving some work if the rudder mod is done in the factory!

The rudder modification will save in the long run. It is a must for this plane.
Although the Moki 250 flies this plane very nice, the 300, with the extra weight will be better.
Hindsight tells me that some of my bad landings were caused by a slightly tail heavy plane.
I will be monitoring this thread. I have many pictures of my build.

Hi,

yes, I have chosen the "300", it should be enough for my first GeeBee ��.
Airworld told me that they have modify the kit and the increased a bit the size of the rudder. This is my first one so I can't compare to an other one...
my fisrt felling is that the kit is generally good but fitting the engine correctly with the cowl will not be easy....������
( few little stuff like the sevo mount could have been included, ...)

this is is just the start, I'll give you my felling during the building...

Below link to a Moki Engine forum in the event you have not discovered it yet.
I used a 50 oz tank on my 250 with plenty left over after 12 to15 minute flights.
This should be adequate for the 300.

I have dozens of photos of my build.

I think you will be wery happy with the 300 and if i was building mine today i think i would use the 300 instead of the 400! I am in the final stage of my carf corsair with moki 300 and the motor sems wery good! I just started it the other day and it runs wery sweet

yes the rydder is ready from AW and will save you some building time!

I use the 3W 1L fuel tanks on all my moki planes on both gasoline and smoke,the one liter gives me 10-12 minutes on the 400 easy.
