It is the nature of the game. 15 minute time limit is ridiculous, and the whole structure of accumulating gold means the more battles you are in the more money you make. Too much arcade type stuff going on and not enough realism. I preferred RO much more, but no one plays that anymore.
This whole ramming thing is ludicrous too.

WARNING RANT!!!
The amount of stupidity from the WoT players is MINDBLOWING...Most of my mid/high tier games, 1-3 people are away from keyboard.... most of the time players rush alone and die.
In about 2 minutes of most of the games i'm in, 2-5 people are already dead accomplishing NOTHING.
Just now i was in my T14 in a Tier 5/6 game. I had 7 kills, capturing the enemy flag, ALL ALONE. We lost because everyone in the team was dead while the other team still had a good 4-5 players left capturing our flag. I look at the game roster.... only 2 other players had kills, one guy had a -1 the rest was at 0.
I wish WoT had a better match maker algorythm so noobs in tanks stop flooding the games... How can 2-3 player carry an entire team? It's getting old REALLY fast...
This whole ramming thing is ludicrous too.
As I said Dan, they do not claim to be a historical simulator. If you do not expect that it will be a better experience. All of the hard core simulators faded away pretty quickly as they were only interesting to about 500 people on the planet. I played RO back when it was the only game in town and liked it. I hated that there would only be ~100 people online and you would usually end up just having to shoot really bad bots. Last night there was 30,000 tank enthesuists online, just for the NA server. IMO WoT is much more realistic than RO. Once again, that's my opinion.
Also, being in more battles does not necessarily mean you will be making more money. You have to play the gams AND be good. Or else you will lose money. I like the ramming thing. It makes for some exciting times. It reminds me of the tank ramming that happened at Kursk. It's not a demolision derby out there and it does not happen that frequently, But seeing an E-100 lumber off a hill and onto another tank can be entertaining.
I like the 15 minute time limit and the fact that once you die you are dead for that game. Didn't like RO because you would die, repawn in 30 sec and go die again, over and over. You never had to be careful because a replacement tank was only a half minute ahead.
So it is obvious that I like this game and I try to play in an organized fashion with a dedicated clan that drills tactics and what have you. I am having much more fun than when I just started. Early on, I was rushing out and not understanding team dynamics and wartime tactics. I was a mess. Now that I have progressed, own many tier 10 tanks, play in clanwars and spend the time drilling military tactics it has really peaked my interest.
This game is like going to the gym. If you casully play it every now and attack it withoout a plan and by yourself, you will never enjoy the full rewards. On the plus side, I think it was voted the worlds largest MMO game at some point. Of all the wizards, warlocks, racing autos, bombing airplanes, or twisting tetris box options out there and the game with the biggest player base is about tanks. That is cool.
Whole bunch of 2 cents there,
Perry
P.S. I added this edit just to drive the point home. My perception of this game, the tactics, and the player base has really changed over the months I have been playing. Early on I found all the flaws discussed here and uninstalled it. SInce then I have come back to it, learned how to play and gotten some decent tanks. The experience has changed substantially.

As far as the rant thing goes, let's please not go down that path. If you are ever on the WoT forum it is one of the worst you will ever see. Ton's of people wanting to rant about other players being bad. If others are really that bad, just kill them. So please, no ranting. No offense intended but I don't like it when people assume others want to hear them 'rant'. Nobody ever does.

If you don't want to read my rant, feel free not to read it. That's why i posted in big bold letters: WARNING RANT!!!
Also i feel it's pretty justified since that's what happens in the game, and YHR and other's confirmed it. It's a big negative aspect of the game ever since it got more popular. It wasn't that bad before, now it is.
I like the game, i play a little bit almost everyday. I have a dozen+ maxed out tanks and it's fun. But it doesn't mean certain aspect (like i mentioned) aren't a negative impact on the game.
At minimum, AFKer's should receive a ban and be replaced. 1-3 AFKer's every few games is way too much.
Idiots that spam, keep bumping their team mates (ever tried to use an arty while some noob keeps bumping into you...), or the wanabe TKer's (they shoot you just enough time that they can damage you but not turned blue) should all be punished...

Just remember that there will always be aholes in online games. I have not had that many in the last 2 months. And also remember there are kids who play this game and may not really understand it, they shouldn't be punished if they are sincerely trying to learn, we were "noobs" at one point in time also, and I really hate that term. I for one really enjoy the game.

Ronan,
It is not my intent to argue orantagonize. Maybe we can play together and have fun. There aredefinitelysome bad points in the game as you describe but at least I do not find them to be the norm. In almost 10000 games I have been team killed maybe 5 times, plusmaybe once or twice on accident by arty when I was brawling. Some times dolts or young kids will take a shot at me. I ignore them and they go away. Never had people bump me while playing arty. In higher tiers it costs too much to shoot your own guys. Not saying it doesn't happen, just that it's not as rampant a your 'RANT' insinuates. But as you have pointed out above, you have killed your team mates, you have been banned from the game. Not I. Much different experience for me.
AFK'er bug me because they are usually bots or scripts that people run to get the experience one little sliver at a time. I report them. Hopefully they will be addressed. In the long run though it's statistics.Thereis a 50/50 chance the AFK guy will be on your team or on theirs. You will either be helped or hindered.
So maybe I would adjust my advice to Dan and say stick it out for a bit and get to some higher tiers. A lot of the antics you see at tier 2 and 3 go away when you start having to pay lots of credits for team damage at the higher tiers. They will never go away completely.Theworld is an imperfect place.

RE: RCU on World of Tanks
If possible try and platoon as often as possible. A lone tank is often a dead one. At higher tiers 2-3 tanks working together can finish a enemy before they ever get the second shot off.
I do find bad games with bad players. Sometimes I may be one of them when then plan crumbles. Usually that happens from my platoon not having enough support and suddenly the enemy overwhelmed us before we could adjust.
Those games are bad. Made worse with some of the ignorant comments in the chat box. Which I try to ignore.
The last issues I have are completely due to the random number generator. II do believe one team has a positive % over another. That modifier usually helps but can be beat. Then there is luck.
Overall though I enjoy the game.

Maybe i don't play enough, i'm only at 3k games. I don't do much high tier's because i find them less fun. I have a Tier 8 and very close to tier 9, but i don't find them much fun. Maybe because i chose german and it seems i can't hit anything hard enough or take hard hits...
I'm mostly around tier 5 games, and most of those games are very frustrating because people aren't playing. They are just 'dicking' around.
And this happens a lot, every single day i play. I play around 5-6 games per day, i would say half to 3/4 of them have that issue in the brackets i play. Deff much less on high tier.
I guess the lesson of the story... stick to tier 8-10, play russian... in platoon's.

That figure's! We kept talking to you but you never answered!
When you are in the garage, on the bottom leftish you see tabs. Basically the default position is 'closed'.
If you look at the tab that say's the clan name, it's 'our' chat tab. We are often in it chatting and you can see the clan members that are online.
From that i can talk to you + invite you to a platoon (the invitation request tab is on the bottom right).

RE: RCU on World of Tanks
I play from Tier3 thru Tier7 games. I play all US tanks right now. I'm also trying the new British TDs. I play alot. Started in Janurary and I'm over 3600 battles. I actually have been watching the strategies of the different players. You can see how some group together and back each other up, The lone wolves, the campers, and yes the ones that shoot their own team. Lately I have been able to know if my team will win with in the first couple minutes. On the lose games I try to fill the open slot on the weak side. I just started reading about tank tactics and trying to apply to my playing. Another big thing I learned is to find the weak spots on the different types of tanks. It's enjoyable for me. Wins and loses running about 50/50 for me.
Now to get my headset and teamspeak. and see where the clan leads me.
See you on the Battle Field!

RE: RCU on World of Tanks
Ok stupid question time:
What does any of the camo or netting or anything have to do with conceilment when everyone is running around with name tags above them?
So if our scout runs out and illuminates the field you see the enemy even if they are out of effective range. I fire on them just the same to cause damage when possible. Then the scout dies now I cant see them?
Another for instance: im a few meters away from a tank and they can see me but I cant see them and Im fired upon?
Are these glitches or whats going on?
If Im critical of any part of WOT is this screwy sighting system they have concocted. In the real world your either seen or not seen, camo works or it does not and if I can see you I can aim and fire on you. Ive read the wiki on how WOT has designed their way of doing things and Im not a fan I must say.
Make the maps bigger, change the ballistics or just take the tags off permanently, whatever, but its frustrating when Im killed for stupid reasons.
It should be if you scroll over a tank you spot that an ID tag color will tell you friend or foe but its not always on regardless of a foward observer. Using the spotting feature thats in the game should be the only way to communicate enemy positions to the team. That way eiher you see the enemy tank yourself or a team member has spotted it but either way someone has eyes on target and reported it. That makes camo work for everyone else that has not been spotted. This would curb those 50mph aholes that go sprinting around the map trying to spot everything at once and become distractions to your team taking pock shots at it.
In WWII air combat sims its like the arrow pointing to your enemy. Thats why they call it chasing arrows. Its the same here on the pick up games. Ive never played in the clan games or invitation, are the name tags on just the same or can they be turned off?
Something else I noticed that bugged me last time I played related to sight was SMOKE AND FLAMES! I had a tank fire at me directly in front just out of view, sometimes. All you see is a light gray line suggesting flight path of the round. This game needs muzzel flash and smoke. I notice the terrain and sound effects are better than before now we need smoke and fire from these big guns. I should be able to look over to where you fired from and return fire to your position just like they do in real tanks, its not complicated, its a big gun fight.

RE: RCU on World of Tanks
Nick i'll try to explain the sighting as i understand it. To start every tank has a base view range and every tank has a base camo rating. These are modified based on crew EXP, modules, extra equipment and terrain features.
If you move you decrease the overall conbined rating. If you have a light tank it is the best at camo. You can move and still not be seen up to a point. If you have a tall German tank it is much harder to conceal over a Russian low profile TD. Again if the entire crew has 100% camo and the TD has a net behind a bush you aren't going to be spotted until you fire. If you do be sure you have 15m of space to the next bush since they concider the muzzel preassure wave as defeating the cover within 15m.
So if an enemy is detected and is red back away from the bush so all you can see is the red out line. Fire and move back to the bush. Be sure to right click and pan around making sure the entire tank isn't visible.

RE: RCU on World of Tanks
Is anybody still playing? I just started over a week ago. I love the Derptastic T-18. Anyway, my tag is Cruiser133 if anybody wants to hook up later. I usually play after 8pm est. Right now I am still tier 2 with the T-18, but I went ahead and splurged on gold to buy the mighty JT premium tonight so I can try out the tier 8.

RE: RCU on World of Tanks
Hi guys,
I've been playing WoT intermittently, and managed to get to an M46 Patton (Tier 9, going Tier 10 M48A1 Patton) with one of my accounts (Sabot7) and an Indien Pz (Tier 8, going Tier 9 Leopard PT, then towards Tier 10 Leopard 1) on the other account (Heat7). Both are on the SEA server as I migrated last Jan from NA server.
Lately, we have been creating and playing on a training room using Semi-Hardcore rules->that is...we press V (no HUD), No capping of Objectives, but just merely knocking out all enemies. Once your hit and penetrated (your crew will tell you), your KO'd->that is you stop, raise your gun upwards and be killed/finished off. Honest-gentleman rule here.
In one of the sessions, we had Tier 6 below, no Hvy, no arty, had comms, US versus Germany, then Axis vs Allies, crew skills at 50%.
Last night we had WW 1, that is we only had Tier 1 tanks (as vehicle and ammo is free), Germany vs US.
It is truly enjoyable, as those with comms (Mic, press Q and direct/talk) can act as the team leader, directing assault formations, giving directions, setting up firing positions, etc.
I know there is a historical battle mod (u patch ur client program)- which limits ur POV but still has a reticle, however, this takes time and dedication to set up.<See historical battles group forum on WoT.
Thus, we settled for the easiest route, with just pressing V. You can then shoot using the zoom function and estimate that your gun had stabilised, then aim at the center and fire-adjust if necessary. Here we have no silly tank outlines (red and green), no in-game map (where player locations move in real time) just purely visual scanning and scouting, positively ID'ing tanks prior to firing and staying within visual range of your team.
You can use a map though, but not in-game. You may print or pull up from the internet the map (w/ coordinates) and switch between the game and the website map. team leaders or those with comms, communicate contacts and friendly positions via in game channel, and refer to the map. Much like the real deal in WW2.
Last night we had about 5 German Tracktors, got smashed by 5 US T1s in Pearl River map who had moved in-force in a wedge formation. One T1 had scouted, and drawn our fire. Once he had relayed our estimated firing positions (ridge line above the river, vantage position, heavily wooded area), two teams of 2 T1s, rushed our flanks in a pincer manuever.
Germans then managed to annahilate the US team in the second battle as we concentrate our fire teams, exhausted the US's ammo by setting up a good defensive position (reverse slope, foliage, interlocking sector firing zones).
You may try and create ur own rules, as for now, WG is sticking to an arcadey-type of WoT.
PS: I can perhaps create another account on NA server to get to play with ou guys on a set-up similar to what i mentioned aboved....We can coordinate using RCU, set up teams (say, 6 shermans vs 2 Tigers), limit no of ammo, and tank crew skill....then set a battle day. =)
cheers, Rey (Heat7 and Sabot7, SEA Server)

RE: RCU on World of Tanks
I still play, just a lot less.
80% of pugs are useless and they die within a minute or two, leaving 3-4 tanks to carry the entire team (which is usually dead).
Not fun.
So i platoon up and do TC's with my new clan. Those are a bit better, but lately the repair fee's of my high tier tanks + not making much money from pretty bad pugs (i always get a few kills, if i die, i die among the last one's, but i can't win matches alone or with 1-2 other tanks) have drained my credits.
So i still play... just here and there.
