Default High number of fades on a AR12120 Power safe

Hi Guys.
I have just fitted a AR12120 DSMX Power Safe to a new jet and I am experiencing a high number of Fades on one satelite ie L the left one the other 3 are normal between 0 and 27 I am using my 12X Trany this is the first time that I have used a DSMX whith my DSM2. I have placed the sat in 3 different places (nose to tail) with no change after I have landed it reads 999 on the flight log I think I remember reading awhile back something about this, you can switch it on and leave it and I don't get any fades it is not till I have had a flight that the numbers go up Like the national debt any info would be great.
Cheers
Mav

How are you positioning the antenna on your transmitter? The biggest mistake, and I see it all the time. is folding it over to the left or right. Unless you are pointed at your aircraft at all times, it will seriously degrade the signal when the airplane is at your extreme left or right. The signal from the antenna goes out from the sides of the antenna. There is no signal coming off the tip or base of it. Assuming you don't fly your airplane directly over your head, the best position for the antenna is either pointed 45 degrees down at the ground or straight up folded back at an angle toward the transmitter.

Hi
I have always flown with the antena at 90 deg since using 2.4 and never had an issue with fades till now, as far as I know you are not supposed to have the antena sticking straight out.

I was having the same issue. Do a range test and note the fades. Try changing the satellites around in position on the powersafe A to B L to R. Whatever you would like. I found if I did this, and did a range after, my fades dropped drastically. Give it a try. If not send it in. I have personally had one bad 12120 (just flat out died) and have seen another one with major binding issues.

Hi
It's funny that you should mention the binding issue I have my nose wheel steering on Aux 7 and the first couple of times I went to fly it had gone awol every thing else worked but aux 7 did nothing this happened a couple of times and I would do a rebind and it would be okay I have had about 20 flights now and it hasn't done it since.

Cheers

mavrick

glad you created this thread, I haven't tried replacing my satellite yet but have changed orientation etc as you have and still 999 fades on Satellite L

brand new AR12120 and I'm using the DX18

I suspect it's a bad satellite but I haven't allocated time to acquire a replacement yet.

cheers

Guy's,

The people at HH already know about the high fade counts on the one remote receiver on the left side of the AR12120. I have three planes with the same issues and they say that there is just a glitch that they have to work out. BTW it is not fades that you need to be concerned about, it'a the Frame losses & any Hold's that are the real concern. If you are not seeing any of these after a flight then there is no real problems with the systems.

I have a 12X too, and thought that the transmitter had to be changed to transmit to a DSMX receiver? Once converted, it would transmit to both DSMX and DSM2?

Hi Greg
Thanks for the reply, I thought I remembered reading something about this problem but couldn't find any decent info on it. I am not getting any Holds or Losses just the high fades on the L port, is there any indication when the problem might be resolved.
Cheers
Mav.

Hi chrigui.
I fly with a JR 12X my flight log plugs into the data port of my receiver and it sits on top of it you just push the button to scroll through it before you power down.

Mav.

I believe that there is a bug in the AR12120 receiver associated with counting fades for receiver L where the counter increments by 256 for each fade. I suspect the max count is 999 which would the counter maxes out after only 4 fades on receiver L. I have no idea if or when they plan on fixing this issue but since the firmware in the AR12120 isn't field upgradeable, I wouldn't hold my breath...

It makes you wonder how many guys are using this receiver with out a flight log I had another couple of flights today it flys rock solid as what has been stated earlier the main problem would be
the Holds & Loss's and by my under standing there arn't any.
Cheers

I've put 15 flights on my kingcat with this receiver and have had zero holds
All remote antennas have low fades
except L ant but otherwise it has a rock solid link

I have put probably 50 flights on my BVM F-100 with this receiver with out any issues of holds or frame losses. I also have one in my BVM F-86 with only 6 flights but have not had any issues of holds or frame losses.
