Default RE: Ultimate 120 from Nitroplanes

The G 200 will produce scale like performance, but the plane will NOT be able to prop hang, etc.

It will also not climb with the nose straight up for long as it's airspeed will decrease to the point of stall after a few seconds.

The biggest problem mounting the G 200 on this plane will be the cutouts required.

The cowl rakes back fairly steeply on the underside, so a large hole will be required that will in turn expose MOST of the engine.

To an extent, the same is true of mounting an inverted four stroke engine though.

How are you all holding the canopy ?? Are you using the screws method ?? I want to keep all my switches on the inside and open canopy to switch on/off so the screw idea is not soo good.... Any ideas ??

Well one easy way to do this is to use rare earth high strength magnets.

You can find these at most craft shops.

Normally you put a magnet next to a washer or metal ring, to hold the magnet against the metal when the canopy is closed.

However on a plane I'd advise that you put TWO magnets against each other, so you would have say four sets of magnets ( 8 total )...

Four on the canopy, and four on the fuse, set up so that the magnets on the canopy align against the fuse ones.

For even more safety you can add a "hatch latch" or other similiar device.

That way you merely pull back on the latch and pop the canopy off.

I do this all the time with my electrics and it works great.

The two wings. I have an scratch build Extra 300. I am looking to convert it into a bipe with a Ultimate wing design, the fuse lenght is the same that the Nitromodels Ultimate.

Thanks for your help.

Javier.

Sounds like an interesting project.

Are you going to lower the wing?

I'll try to measure this for you.

The wings on the Ultimate are not tapered back, rather they are straight wings.

I've had the Ultimate 120 55" wing for just over a year. I installed a .26 cc gasser in it, digital servos, still has the wheel skirts on it. The plane flies great. I have actually tired to twist it into splinters in the air, and it's survived everything I could throw at it, with no problems. I have had 3 deadstick landings that didn't fair so well, and each time some damage, but the 120 is still flying like a dream. BTW the deadstick crashes were only because I was too far out to make it back to the field. (Only thing to know about a bipe is that it won't glide very far, and KEEP THE NOSE DOWN and AIRSPEED UP on a deadstick, lest you will have a rolling stall) Hope this is helpful.

You can get cowls and canopies from Nitroplanes.com, but if you need more than that you may have to post it in their support forum here on RCU.

I have one of those planes, Just install a DLE 30 with a apc 18X8 that plane really goes
With that engine you can even do Knife edge loops
Beautiful plane with alot of power.

I've had no problems with these: [link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=17033]Reverser[/link]

I used the above on many planes.

I've also used the Hyperion servos which are programmable and reversable.

You buy two of the latter and revers on for perfectly matched servo pairs. I did this for my 50cc Ultimate.

I use a "Matchbox" which is a bit more expensive than a reversing servo, but very accurate, and can be used in other applications as well. (Matching travel on ailerons, elevators, flaps, etc.

Yeah I use Matchboxes on my larger planes. Great product, better than Futaba's equivalent.... but not cheap too.

I don't see a yellow Ultimate 125 on their site, but I do see the yellow Ultimate 1.20 which I also have.

The Ultimate 1.20 is built for a FOUR stroke 1.20 size engine. Your 1.20 TWO stroke is about the equivalent of putting in a 1.60-1.80 FOUR stroke, so yes you'll have GOBS of power.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE re-inforce the tail ASAP! ( Learned this the hard way! ).

After my plane's tail ripped off in flight ( btw landed it!!! WITH NO TAIL! ) I rebuilt the tail and inserted CF & hardwood cross braces.

I also used CF rods and GP plastic angle strut retainers to create support struts to stiffen the tail while providing more support. I do this with a lot of planes that have large elevator surfaces.

Here is a picture of one of the first support struts I did on a .60 size Extra. I did that was before I discovered the plastic angle fixtures from GP, now they look soo much better...
